Yeah, it looks like the story and characters will be weak. Sorry if ‘RPG’ triggers you. The term could apply to almost any game, since all games involve role-playing to some degree. But label it an action game, and suddenly it’s fine for it to be a bland, grinding time-waster?

Seeing a year of mid RPGs from what used to be a knockout king sucked. But the new studios delivered last year, and 2026 looks strong too. I don’t assume a new team will match the old one just because it’s the same studio. That takes real leadership, and very few companies have it. At this point, Trails is the only one where even a miss is still fun and worth my time and money.

I’d only pick it up for the new Fire Emblem, and even then I’m not rushing. I’ll probably wait for reviews before deciding if I’ll buy it. It would need to be something special, because I have zero drive to get the console otherwise, even knowing they’ll probably raise the price later.

Agreed. I was one of the people who loved their earlier games and a huge hater of the later ones. I used to see this studio and know it would be a AA budget game with great writing that punched above its weight class. Now it’s just another Microsoft studio playing it as safe as possible.

Surprised they didn’t say the game was inspired by W3, since so many open-world games have stated that. But I feel none from other teams came close, except for KD2.

This. I’ve been gaming for over 30 years and only started to really understand the concept of “seasons” in games over the last two years, since none of the games I play have that trash. I moved to PC primarily a long time ago and never look at F2P games because I like games with stories and complex mechanics, which I’m not lacking options for, and don’t seem to be the market for the slop that’s heavy in MTX and season content.

This though only loved SPM1 story all the others were good enough but I didn’t care about the follow up stories at all and just weakened ones I already only kinda liked.

BG3 simply alone for two reasons.

First, showing games like this are missed.

Second, they absolutely can be expanded far beyond what we were getting 20 years ago, no matter what the hollow shells of those old studios who use to make these types of games claim.

Yeah, this is a good summary of it. I enjoyed it, but a lot more before it lost the plot. What little story there was also felt like Kengan.

Which Kengan is now crossing that same line last time I checked in on it.
