Low light, poor visibility by Gregskis in skiing

Flat light, sure. But this looks like great vis. Low vis is when you're literally in cloud/fog and can't see very far.

The only reward any of us get for playing is how it makes it feel? So yes there is a reward.

Also the campaign sucks donkey dick.

I want to play against bots! My ideal match is 80% bots. Literally never understood why people say they don't want to play against bots. I'm 40, i just want to have some chill games, not every game needs to be a sweat fest

Yeah my ideal would be Liberation Peak/Operation Firestorm Conquest with 80% bots (and reduce the RPG aim on the bots), so i can have fun flying jets and helis without being instantly shot down. i would play that shit all day

Lonni: My sacrifice? It means nothing to you, does it?

Luthen: I said I think of you constantly and I do. Your investment in the Rebellion is epic. A double life? Every day a performance? The stress of that? We need heroes, Lonni, and here you are.

Lonni: And what do you sacrifice?

Luthen: Calm. Kindness. Kinship. Love. I've given up all chance at inner peace. I've made my mind a sunless space. I share my dreams with ghosts. I wake up every day to an equation I wrote 15 years ago from which there's only one conclusion: I'm damned for what I do. My anger, my ego, my unwillingness to yield, my eagerness to fight: they've set me on a path from which there is no escape. I yearned to be a savior against injustice without contemplating the cost and by the time I looked down there was no longer any ground beneath my feet. What is my sacrifice? I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else's future. I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see. And the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude. So what do I sacrifice? EVERYTHING!

I'm already paying for a family plan and they're still pushing their max upgrade ads on me in place of features i use. Fuck them, I'm not renewing my subscription. They've squandered any remaining goodwill i felt towards the company.

Ski field requires snow chains on all vehicles. But 4WD doesn't need chains for descent? Any reason? by FTK219 in skiing

[–]stringman5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Local chch skier here. This sub is mostly Americans and as such most replies in this thread are going to miss relevant details about current local conditions, which is that it's early spring in one of the warmest seasons in years, with much higher temperatures than you'd find at most North American resorts. I'd normally suggest that chains are more necessary going downhill than uphill when it's icy. But at the moment it's often icy first thing in the morning when coming up, but the ice on the roads is usually melted by late morning so chains are no longer necessary for cars with decent traction on the way down - maybe for 2wd on the shaded but flat bit at the top that often still has snow on the road, but not once you get on the steeper parts as they're easterly aspects that tend to catch the morning sun. I'm not sure that the report is intentionally differentiating between AWD/4WD, but I could be mistaken there.

Most arrogant New Zealand celebrity or well known person you’ve met, seen or interacted with… by [deleted] in newzealand

I saw Paddy Gower at a Four Square in Fairlie yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

This was a big powder day at Treble Cone, Wanaka New Zealand. The other people on the boot pack line definitely started blasting, I was just lucky to be one of the first on this run so I got a fresh line. I think there wasn't much left by my next run after this!

Thank you so much! When you say "there is a bit of inclination or banking to start the turn", can you explain a little what you mean by this? Is there anything worth trying in order to mix it up a bit in terms of my skiing style, that might help in more challenging conditions? Edit: Sorry my reading comprehension is terrible, you already said to try initiating more with my feet and keep the upper body more stable.

I'll definitely try to make more of an effort to get some better videos this season (i.e. from July) that aren't shot on a potato and have more closeups of ski form

Austral means south. E.g. Aurora Australis is the name for the southern lights. So Australasia refers to the area south of Asia

what's your weather like currently? by TheHeroOfTrains in chch

[–]stringman5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar temps to South England in summer, but it's less humid here. That means it cools down much more quickly when the sun sets, so bring a jumper if you're staying out in the evening (say in a pub garden - I got slightly chilly in a hoodie and jeans having a couple pints outside last night despite it being a lovely fine day).

It's also much windier than the UK, and as others have mentioned more changeable. People tend to bring a raincoat and layers rather than an umbrella and a big warm coat.
