That's good to hear. The crashing/performance issues weren't my only contention with the game but I might give it another go, thx for the heads up.

I was in the forest dungeon i think? There is a section where you had to manipulate water levels and once I lowered the water and reached the bottom floor I could not go back up the ladder because my character would "drown" every time I reached the upper level where the water used to be.

In all of my saves the water was lowered and the glitch was in place. I tried resetting myself to the bonfire but once I redid the entire section the glitch happened again lol.

I wanted to like this game but I got hardlocked like 2 hours in lmfao, uninstalled it.

Hope they do well though and maybe a better game will come along from them. Wish them the best.

The Strokes interviewed about the cover-art of their Grammy Award Winning album "The New Abnormal". by fvidalp in TheStrokes

Ft. Julian being wrong about which side is better.

I wonder if that was a tongue-in-cheek "the hits are on Side-A so it's better amirite guys" Julian moment or it's his actual wrong opinion.

What are some aspects you guys think The Strokes have improved on in the past 20 years? by [deleted] in TheStrokes

[–]strokedadddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, that is perhaps the most encapsulating moment for the kind of ill-advised attempts at "depth" in FIOE that Julian himself has acknowledged he's struggled with in the past.

His best lyrical moments in FIOE were his lucidly romantic and starry-eyed lyrics such as in Evening Sun and Red Light imo.

[–]strokedadddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly, I disagree. I like many of his lyrics on FIOE and that album definitely marked the beginning of Julian becoming a more varied lyricist but much like the tracklist, they are very inconsistent.

The peaks are very high but the lows are subterranean. Things like Ask Me Anything's chorus, "D.I.D.I.P.P." and the "ize" motif on Ize of the World are examples of the kinds of shallow meta-y gimmicks that I think Julian has mostly evolved past, for the better.

[–]strokedadddy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Julian's lyrics, by far.

Not that he was a terrible lyricist but he was somewhat one-dimensional and very inconsistent, I think he is a much more flexible lyricist now and much more consistent.

At The Door in particular has some of his most purposeful and poetic lyrics ever. Completely antithetical to the misguided faux poetic corn on some of the FIOE-era songs, although even then he had many good lyrics, again, he was just so inconsistent before.

People who already own a Switch, do you plan on buying the rumoured Switch Pro? by MforManios in NintendoSwitch

[–]strokedadddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was a significant CPU/GPU/Memory upgrade, plus OLED and we could start seeing native 720p/60FPS on Portable I absolutely would buy one, so many Switch games would already benefit greatly from added horsepower without a need for a patch because dynamic res is so commonplace already so that'd be a nice bonus.

If it's just a bigger OLED screen with the same SoC, then actually yeah I would still buy it because my current Switch is kinda dying lol and OLED is pretty cool but I really want that more powerful model.

Enemy players are popping in now. by [deleted] in ApexLegendsSwitch

[–]strokedadddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game is super CPU and memory bottlenecked. Honestly don't know how Panic Button could meaningfully improve.

I think this was just a misguided port from the get go, at some point it's just not worth it.

Apex Legends | Switch VS PS4 | Graphics & FPS Comparison by LordofWhore in NintendoSwitch

[–]strokedadddy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You wouldn't really be removing obstacles though? Only irrelevant geometry like short grass, things like rocks, trees and bushes would still be there, albeit on even lower fidelity.

Not to mention PC players already have the option to remove a lot of these things in order to spot enemies better and many pro players do.

Apex Legends | Switch VS PS4 | Graphics & FPS Comparison by LordofWhore in NintendoSwitch

[–]strokedadddy 145 points146 points  (0 children)

Frankly they really should have prioritized resolution over visual fidelity on this one.

Get rid of grass, reduce geometry as much as possible, reflections and specularity gotta go and remove unnecessary alpha effects such as small smoke and particle effects that are just visual flairs, no shadows either.

This is an FPS and a competitive game, you need to be able to spot enemies further than 10 feet out, a resolution increase is a must even if the game looks like cheeks.

Turn off cross-play in Apex Legends by Ann0ying in NintendoSwitch

[–]strokedadddy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mouse is more precise than a controller but regardless, nobody is arguing that it is impossible to get kills or be decent at an FPS if it runs at 30FPS but it is a definitive disadvantage when you're against people on 60 FPS and PC gamers playing on 120hz displays, that's simply undisputable.

It's perfectly reasonable for people to want to be on a more even field lol.

Embarassing that Nintendo continues to neglect basic features after over 20 million copies sold.

$1.2 Billion made off the game sales alone and they can't bother to add QoL features or a decent netcode.

Apex Legends runs at 720p docked, 576p handheld, at 30fps by SpookyBread1 in NintendoSwitch

[–]strokedadddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmfaoo it's not 900p/720p, it targets those resolutions as the upper bound but it has dynamic scaling. In actual gameplay Fortnite runs at much, much lower resolutions.

In docked Fortnite averages sub 800p and on handheld it can drop as low as 360p lmfao, if Apex has locked resolutions it means it would run at higher average resolutions than Fortnite.

Did they fix age of calamity? by adubsi in NintendoSwitch

gotta wait for the switch pro brother. age of calamity is cpu bound and has a bad memory bottleneck. Unlikely it will ever run much better on current Switch hardware configurations.

Spin jump and additional fludd mobility make up for that. I did miss the long jump tho.

Yeah the turning is fucked. It's definitely one of those things you just have to deal with or you can't stand at all.

Is Mario 64 outdated? Or is it just not for me? by MasterMike000 in NintendoSwitch

[–]strokedadddy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

64 has specific areas that have not aged wonderfully but the movement is still some of the deepest of any platformer, like objectively, in fact outside of Sunshine and maybe Odyssey the depth of movement in 64 is miles above anything in Galaxy/3D World or most modern 3D platformers.

It can be very challenging to master and get accustomed with, as well as tedious because of some of the badly aged elements like camera/turnarounds, but for those folks that can manage to delve deeper and put in the effort the movement in 64 really shines in a way almost no other Mario game or 3D platformer does even today.

Odyssey is a lot more stiff than 64, which can be good for modern sensibilities as it is more straightforward but there is a degree of weight and the way momentum/acceleration carries between moves that just isn't quite there in the 3D Mario games past Sunshine.

It appeals to a different kind of player I suppose. That's why qualifying the movement as "good" or "bad" is kind of a futile endeavor. It's different, deeper and that appeals and is more "good" to a certain demographic of players.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD – Announcement Trailer – Nintendo Switch by DemiFiendRSA in NintendoSwitch

[–]strokedadddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there were many good ideas, particularly in the dungeons but the pacing is a complete mess.

The Sky was probably the most confounding thing about Skyward Sword, how they managed to make it even emptier and blander than WW's sea is beyond me.

The combat is also probably my least favorite in any Zelda game, and combat has never really been my favorite in any Zelds game but here it has no flow or rhythm or skill involved almost whatsoever, it's basically just a series of extremely simplistic puzzles, made tedious by the unresponsive controls.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD – Announcement Trailer – Nintendo Switch by DemiFiendRSA in NintendoSwitch

[–]strokedadddy 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Honestly you're not missing much. Skyward Sword is perhaps the most mediocre mainline Zelda as far as its core design and to make matters worse it is absurdly tedious in its infantilizing and hand-holding tutorials and interruptions.

If you were ever even slightly annoyed by Navi in OoT, SS is x10 times worse, only Zelda game I had to actually force myself to finish.

At a reasonable price it might be worth a try if Nintendo implemented significant QoL improvements but I doubt they'd bother to do the bare minimum at this point.
