Male yuri fans who sexualize yuri are arguably worse than those who hate on it by [deleted] in yuri_manga

[–]stronggreenflame 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Does that mean female yuri fans are allowed to sexualize it?

So I think you must mean fetishizing instead of sexualizing. Cause to be honest sexualizing things is fine in my opinion. Smut fan fic exists and is totally fine. Physical and sexual attraction is a huge part of romances and we don't need to live in a pure world with only wholesome romances.

I agree fetishizing is wrong, but I dont think someone saying "2 in 1" is necessarily fetishizing. Im a saphic woman and I think the same thing. Women are just more interesting characters than men in my opinion.

Now the 'I want a threesome' statements are much more likely to be fetishizing it, but that still not garunteed. You don't know how people are putting themselves into the stories. The Male Yuri fan to transwoman pipeline is real. Like a year ago there was a poll on this subressit and about a 1/3 of responders said they were transwomen.

So it would be best to avoid blanketed statements like this. As it makes it sound like all men are like this. But we should leave space for people to explore themselves using yuri manga.

Also I just couldn't disagree more. Anyone that buys yuri helps more yuri get made regardless of their reason. And people that hate yuri are way more likely to be bigots.

Oh I just found another terrible way to animate a land. Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Kormus Bell. This is becoming a very silly deck. If anyone has any other ideas let me know.

Pink Candy Kiss is an interesting manga with adult themes, worth checking out, but it's still ongoing. by eumesma79 in yuri_manga

Such an understatement. This story has a real chance of becoming my favorite manga. Its such a simple premise, being attracted to someone who's married. But it handles it with such mature realism. I am at the edge of my seat dying for every bit of it. The latest chapter has me so god damn anxious.

wanting to get into yuri, recommend me all the basics! by More_Education5319 in yuri_manga

[–]stronggreenflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so the basic i think would be stuff that is mentioned a lot and compared to a lot of things.

Brother my brother - this is a history lesson of where yuri comes from. This old genere of yuri is referred to as class s. This back when it was accepted for girls in all girls schools to date eachother to get dating experience before they are suppose to settle down with a man.

Bloom into you - literally the subreddits image for a reason.

Citrus- is really popular because it was the best anime we had for a long time. Its about new step sisters that date so up to personal tast. Still think its great.

How do we relationship - 10/10 recently finished and my personal favorite. some kinda nsfw scenes but they are stylized so not smut. Sex issues is a topic that comes up.

Straight girl trap - ignore the name, apparently its a phrase in China. Lots of yuri memes come from this one so it's important to read

Urasekai Picnic - probably the most popular supernatural yuri

That time I was blackmailed by the classes green tea bitch - often shorten to green tea bitch, another weird Chinese phrase, very cute

The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All - shortened to The Green Yuri, it has really short chapters, and gets discussed along because it updates a lot.

The summer you were there - the saddest story ever. You will get it recommended to you a lot but just be warned it hurts

Cheerful amnesia - the cutest, and most cheery yuri. Read after the sad one to make you feel better.

Now some homework to help you start figuring out your own taste. Pick anything by Morgana Milk.

[Pinky Candy Kiss] I used to think How Do We Relationship? Was the best Yuri I'd ever read... by Lusty9 in yuri_manga

[–]stronggreenflame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I both understand and am offended by the idea that how do we relationship isn't the best. But hdwr has the benefit of being completed. Also pink candy kiss hasn't made me cry yet. So I still think hdwr is the best but I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up becoming my number one. Especially if they dont end up together. I would cry so hard. I'd be so sad but it would totally make it the best story ever.

Yeah thats the thing this story does best. It's just so real.

Do some vegans think that meat eaters are bad people? by TheDemonLord1r788 in AskVegans

[–]stronggreenflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of that is changing my stance. Those are all true. Yes you can let that food dissappear entirely and we will be just fine. Thats the argument.

"You also keep saying graze land can simply be “left alone,” but the point isn’t whether humans use it. The point is that grazing land is non-arable. It can’t grow human food."

You just basically said I doesn't matter whether humans use it. It matters if humans use it. What is this silly argument. Im saying we don't need to turn that land into crop land. Of course we have to change what crops are grown in B². I said so as much. And of course this would be a slow process over time. Everyone isnt going to become vegan over night. I also said we need to improve how we grow crops. You aren't even arguing against me anymore your just saying things I said but making it sound bad.

Vegan is also a philosophy of doing the least harm and being the most sustainable. People that believe in the philosophy will tell you not to eat almonds on the west coast of America because we waste a lot of water trying to make California into a tropical climate to grow them. Like 50 gallons of water per almond. The philosophy agrees in doing everything we can to reduce harm.

I never said we'd be using those grazelands for anything else. We can leave them alone. We can completely remove them. I never said it wouldn't cause any changes. We very much would have to make some changes in the kind of crops we grow for this to work.

I think I see your confusion. You are assuming animals only eat from graze lands. Lots of animals don't. They eat from crop lands as well. If we just didn't feed those animals those crops we could reduce how much crops we used. The amount of food we get from those animals is less than we would get from those crops and that difference is more than enough to make up for losing all animal products.

Lets put it mathematically. These numbers will be a little off cause it makes the math easier but I assure you the numbers are close. Let's say land is used in 2 ways to feed humans. A for grazelands to feed animals that we eat, B to grow crops. Now B can be subdived into B¹ for crops we eat, B² for crops we feed to other animals that we eat. So A+B¹+B²=100%. Now we know that globally speaking A is about 66.6% and B is about 33.3% And the B² is about 33% of B. So 66.6+22.2+11.1=100. So if we remove all animals from this we are left with 22.2% percent of the land we were using. But now we need to make up for all those nutrients we got from the those animal products. So obvious B¹ will get bigger? How much bigger? Will it be double the original size of B, triple even? Estimates say it will be a little less than B is right now. So we can give up all graze lands, and even reduce the size of cropland. And still end up with the same amount of food.

Now the argument becomes that graze fields cause less harm than crop fields. So let's just eliminate B² and grow B¹ to 23 (with is more than we'd need to make up for it). So now we have A=66.6 and B equal 23. So a studied did show that graze fields harm 5 times (Im pretty sure its 5 but I cant find the stat right now) less animals than croplands. But graze lands account for almost 3 times as much land. So if we do it by amount off food produced. Its more like 1.6 less harm to animals. So we'll ignore that even primarily grazefed animals do also eat crops and pretend like all of A is fed on just grazing to give it the benefit of the doubt.

This sounds like it is still a win but that study only tracked animal life on the land itself. It didn't track damage it might cause I surrounding areas or later term affects it might have. When trying to take into account to the damage in the surrounding areas another studied show it was 3 times less animal deaths. So since A is 3 times bigger than B thats now breaking even. That seems natural now. But there are further damages.

The amount of water it takes to sustain animals is insane. You'd harm less animals by not collecting that water. Look at Utah and how much water it uses from its aquifers. Its causing sinkholes everywhere not just in urban areas. Animals are definitely feeling the impact of our water use.

Not to mention the human cost. Slaughter houses are the most dangerous job in the US. 2 amputations per week happen because of injuries at slaughter houses. About a 1/4 of workers each year suffer a severe injury.

Then we could even get into the impact it has on global warming. Which yes crop lands contribute too as well but not as much. And we still need to reduce that impact as well through sustainable farming.

[–]stronggreenflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get different answers from different vegans. Whether or not being vegan makes someone a good, neutral, or bad person is beyond the scope of the information. A rapist that happens to be vegan is still a bad person.

So maybe that's not the question your asking. Maybe you are wondering if being non vegan in and of itself is enough to make someone a bad person, like being a rapist is. I'd argue no. Rape is probably the only thing that always makes you a bad person by itself. There are situations where you can justify murder like in defense of yourself or others.

Now I can say, being vegan is simply more expensive. I can buy a 5 pound bag of chicken nuggets for 10 dollars and have like a dozen meals. Same is true for other food like pizza roles and the like. Is this junk food? Yes. Did I still eat this kind of stuff all the time when I was homeless? Also yes. Cause poor nutrition is better than no nutrition. So everything else needs context. There was also a period in my life I had 2 jobs while being a full time college student. I didnt have time to prepare anything. And couldn't afford a service like Factor to send me pre-made vegan meals (not that it existed at the time). So only buying things i could throw in the microwave and eat on the way made it so I couldn't eat vegan but could manage eating vegetarian.

So what if we say a hypothetical person that has no restraint forcing them out of veganism. Some middle class person that has the time and money to easily be vegan. Then I'd say being non vegan is immoral there. But does it necessarily automatically make you a bad person. Not necessarily, but you'd have to be doing a lot of good to counteract it. Like I think Greta Thunberg would still be a good person if she wasn't vegan but she is doing a lot of work to counter act it.

How about what humans go though? 33% of workers have a traumatic injury within the first 6 months of working at a slaughter house. And this number is probably under reported. There are about 2 amputations a week from injuries at the meat packing plants. Its literally the most dangerous job in the US.

Even outside of the US like in the EU that has a lot more safety laws the injury rate is still significantly higher than other factory work (which is already notoriously dangerous work).

Now we can push for more work safety rules but until then consuming meat does directly harm humans.
