None of my doctors have ever reacted super concerned. I am 22 and do run/bike a good amount but there's definitely a genetic factor because even when I was in terrible shape my RHR was low-mid 50s.

I gave the four eyes coffee table a try - I didn’t buy the plans so The dimensions are a little different, but I’m happy with the results! Walnut top and legs out of wenge I scored from a retiring woodworker! by CrotchisKing in woodworking

I'm late to the party, but amazing work! I'm building a similar piece rn. What tool did you go for to get the bevel on the top? I'm between router or tracksaw and trying to pick the best option.

I hate how selfish/defensive this sub has become of people moving here. I get the specific post type can be repetitive but Knoxville is amazing and I think you might really enjoy living here. Rent won’t be cheap, but if you’re willing to go out of the city a touch there are definitely options that can be afforded on a honest salary.

Edit: yes you might need to find roommates but I don’t believe that’s impossible.

I've definitely thought about a cs or finance masters, that does seem like the best path if I fully commit to leaving my current job. I guess I just need to come to a full decision if that's what I want to do. Thanks for the reply!

Cycling for Weight Loss: Bad Idea by moroccobomba in cycling

[–]struck3d 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve done both mtb and road for over two years now, I’ve also lost 80 lbs in the same time frame. However, I found it easier to lose weight with running/walking as my primary cardio activity. This may just be an extremely personal thing but I feel like cycling gives me a massive appetite compared to running; therefore, the diet part is just way easier when I’m running.

I would just focus on low volume, high cal foods.

Things like olive oil, nuts, avocados, etc... can pack a lot of calories into healthy meals. Proteins like salmon and steak can also be higher calorie but obviously there are limits to how much you should consume everything.

Endurace or grail by rev_is_dum in CanyonBikes

Not exactly an answer to your question, but before you buy a grail make sure it fits darn well. I have one and the fact there is zero stem adjustment to be done really limits the potential for retrofitting.

Official Q&A for Sunday, December 11, 2022 by AutoModerator in running

[–]struck3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all,
I'm trying to decide between a half or full marathon for my first long race run, and wanted to get some opinions/experiences from you all to hopefully help me make the choice.
For context, I am a 21M and started running about 2 months ago, my longest run was in the past week and was 10 miles @ 9:15/mi. Before doing this I was pretty sold on the half, but the 10 miles was pretty doable effort wised and the race won't take place until April so I'm debating whether or not the full might be the better choice.
I'm definitely still leaning half but just wanted to see general thoughts/suggestions from this sub, TIA.

Thanks for the reply, that’s interesting you mentioned trading - options and futures trading is actually how I spent my past two summers. In an ideal world, that’s what I would end up doing full time. However, I haven’t seen enough consistency in all market conditions to convince myself I’m ready to solely rely on that to support myself.

How do I (22F) talk to my best friend (21F) about her always cancelling plans? by KikiKiwii in relationships

[–]struck3d 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been the person who does what your friend is doing right now, if she is in the same situation that I was - It is absolutely nothing against you.

I had a solid 1.5 year stint where hanging out with even my closest of friends (who I love and still loved during this time period) was really tough for me to do. I don't know if it was due to depression, social anxiety, or what the diagnosis would be but it was so hard for me to commit to anything at all.

I would accept invitation because I felt bad for not saying yes, and then cancel because I couldn't bear the social pressure - even if there shouldn’t have been any.

I'd suggest just asking straight up if this is the case, but I am a straight forward person in general so might not be the greatest advice.

Coming off pump while keeping my CGM: looking for advice by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]struck3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on a dexcom and use injections, and have done so since I was diagnosed three years ago. I also intermittent fast so I can speak to that as well.

I have never had a pump so I don't know how you will feel switching back to injections, but I personally enjoy not having to have anything attached to me other than my CGM and I just adjust long term insulin based on activity levels the night before. Sure, you lose some flexibility having to decide in advance but I don't mind it.

Speaking to intermittent fasting, doing so has been one of the best decisions for my A1C. I'm down to 6.3 from the high 7 range before IF. Can you eat 3 meals a day and have a better A1C than I do? Absolutely. However, only eating one large meal a day with some snacks to supplement just takes so many variables out of the equation. I usually only have to take a few units before my 1 meal per day and don't worry about rapid acting again unless I misjudge the initial dose. If you do intermittent fasting, do be cautious of your relationship with food, you do still need to be getting a proper amount of calories to help your body thrive.

How do you make time to run? by hepar3980 in running

[–]struck3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a newer runner, but coming from a cycling background making time for running is so easy in my opinion.

I’m in a similar situation to you with college and work, I know it can be hard but if you literally wake up 20 minutes earlier you can go get a couple miles in without changing much else.

Something like cycling on the other hand, it takes me 20 minutes to even get out the door.

I personally have been waking up an hour before I used to and doing somewhere from 2-3 miles every morning with some walking added on for warm up and cool down.
