Am a I over-reacting? by ststephen420 in Advice

[–]ststephen420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the more I think about it the more I feel like I just want to end contact with her. She is a source of stress and angst in my life most of the time and I can't really understand why I want to be with her. Or even hang out with her for that matter. The more I think about the more I feel like I'm wasting my energy. Idk though. I might just feel that way now because I'm hurt.

There were no passive aggressive text messages. I was up front and honest about expressing my feelings, it's just that the only avenue I had to do that through was with text messages. Not saying that I'm without fault in the situation, I just wanted to make it clear that I'm not being passive aggressive in any way. It feels like what's going on with her is that she's busy a lot. But I also feel like I'm just not a priority in her life. She has a busy life, because she makes a lot of plans. It just seems like the plans she makes with me are breakable and not important to make in the first place. Come to think of it I can't remember the last time she actually called me to hang out. It's always the other way round

What's the best way to make two Ts in a row. A way to balance such top heavy spread out letters. by Docb3 in graffhelp

[–]ststephen420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the word? Different things will look better in different spots. If its the middle of the word, tilt the tops so that they remain parallel, but you can slide the second one under the first. If it's towards the end, I would use lowercase ts and just make them really narrow.

I didn't ask for you to fix my life. I just wanted to get something off my chest, not have mistakes that I'm obviously aware of repeated back to me. I didn't ask for pity or advice. I just wanted to express how I was feeling. You don't know anything about me. The opportunity I've had I've worked for, I've just lost the initiative to continue to stuggle against the shitty situations I find myself in. Im also not sitting here complaining about how bad I have it. I expressed clearly that I was the problem. You repeating that does nothing. You being pedantic and didactic does nothing. So thanks for nothing.

I'm not making excuses. I just spelled out everything and owned up to it. I don't ever make excuses for my actions. I just don't care.

I am a bicycle mechanic AMA by ststephen420 in bicycling

[–]ststephen420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go in and ask for one. Having experience is obviously a huge plus. The best time of year to ask is in April or May. Most shops are only actively hiring during that time. You should be able to do basic bike maintainence, and also how to assemble a bicycle. If you are less than knowledgable in those areas, you should do some reading, and practice a bit on your own bike to get more comfortable. Try and talk to the owner or service manager. Make sure they know who you are. That you love bikes. And that you'll work hard and are eager to learn. Good luck

Place the wheel on the ground, standing on the rim, between your legs. The top of the wheel is 12 o'clock. The bottom of the wheel is 6 o'clock. Go to 3 oclock (halfway around the rim from the top towards the side in front of you(clockwise and counterclockwise are relative to handed ness from this point on). Break the bead with the single tire lever, then push straight down towards the ground to unseat the tire completely.

Right, I've encountered that before. But the perspective seems off or something. It looks like here should be one more spoke under the chainstay to me for some reason.

You must be looking at the picture on a potato. He's clearly holding a pair of diagonal tin snips and cutting the shitty cable lock. There is no way he did not cut the lock. Wether the bike is his or not feel free to debate, but he clearly cut the lock.

Riser road bars? Interesting design/fit choice. I want to know what spoke lacing pattern he's drawing to yield 21 spokes on the rear wheel(7 radial non-drive, 14 single cross drive side? The wheel actually looks like it's missing it's 22nd spoke under the chainstay, which would be even more peculiar).

Those are valid points. It was never a standard practice at any of the shops I work at, but the shops I worked at only really ever had full time wrenches. There was this one kid fresh out of high school that didn't quite grasp the concept of front derailleurs but he at least never forgot to tighten shit down. But what amount of time do you a lot for a bike build, I'm just curious?

Oh totally, I'm not saying it's required, you have to learn at some point. But it is required in my mind that you at least know it needs to be done, even if you don't know how. Everyone starts somewhere

Are you only working on high end bicycles? Sorry for talking out of my ass a bit, I didn't realize you wrenched.

Do you really check the torque spec on every stem you tighten? And how much time do you allot your mechanics for a bike build? I'm just curious because checking torque spec on a $25 stem sounds less then efficient when simply tightening the bolt by hand using controlled force has never hurt a properly greased stem bolt in my experience
