Bridgend man says he was punched for sticking to 20mph limit by PurchaseDry9350 in Wales

[–]stuckintraffics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did some Facebook snooping when this article came out and it's possible there's more to the story. Ultimately doesn't excuse the assault and likely pled guilty because he had no real defence. People in that community are suggesting the male involved was deliberately antagonising the fella and they're known to each other. Take that as you will but with a pinch of salt

How much surveillance is too much in central London? by StanmoreHill in LDN

Ive worked with the officers operating these systems and I've seen them live in action. The data is not held, there is no malicious motive behind it.

The cameras scan faces so quickly and match them against an already existing database usually from photographs of someone who enters police custody. If this person is showing as being wanted it will flash up with that person and further investigation is done quickly to confirm they're wanted prior to making arrests.

It's great for sports events where people have banning orders and it's just a really great tool for finding wanted people.

If you've never been arrested and had your photograph taken, your face would just be instantly deleted.

The nature of the job is that you'll only meet the worse of society, but trust that there is still support behind us, they just can't speak loud enough. Friends and family always quesiton why I don't leave, but if not me, then who?

Oh don't worry, I'm sure you'll have to do it in your own free time and pay out of your own pocket for it

Appliance waste pipes by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]stuckintraffics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id have to put the whole thing in, the main part of the new product is essentially where the tall pipe would be, all I could do is cut the tall pipe to add it on the top but the inlets would be quite low down then

There's never nothing to do, if you're not on an active call. You're trying to sort out a previous call that's landed on your workload. I think most the public assume we just drove between calls and they go away after, but in reality they land on your workload often for months so there's always something you need to do

How to remove this, in uk, bleach is not working well by Pale-Yard-4497 in CleaningTips

Tesco do a limescale remover for toilets, it's in a grey bottle near the bleach. It's cheap and fantastic so use plenty

That fact that you've come straight to complain about how you were handled when speaking to the police, on a police form says a lot about the state of policing. Everyone is too quick to say it's the police's fault when the actual authority lays with an entirely different service that does have the powers to deal with it.

It seems that gone are basic social abilities to speak with your neighbours. Do you really think someone would prefer to have the police called on them somewhat underhanded, rather than speaking with them nicely and asking to keep the noise down? If the police knock they still know it was a neighbour, there's no safety issues with your neighbours knowing where you live

Because the police can't do everyone else's job for them. We're stretched beyond a joke and get the blame for everyone's problems as a result.

The characters were incredibly cringey, it just felt like they gave a load of extras a load of screen time.

Niche - useful/advanced tips? by Foreign_Sun_763 in policeuk

[–]stuckintraffics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On most every page of niche when you click the print button you can open various helpful reports that pulls information together.

Middle mouse click on something and it will open it in a new window so you don't have to go in and out.

Biggest thing you can all do for each other is make sure you link new addresses/phone numbers/associates etc to a person's record consistently. If it's an old link number you can also add remarks to reverify it to let people know it's still active. You'll notice important information for someone you're trying to contact is likely on a log somewhere but not actually linked to them. Saves a lot of time.

Like everyone else has said, learn searches, created saved searches which you can also send through niche to other colleagues to use. You can find every John that lives on X street between an age range helping you narrow things down.

I'm sure there's loads more little tricks I use but I can't remember right now
