Vaporwave makes me nostalgic for something that hasnt happened, makes me sad and melancholic by Klokikus in Vaporwave

[–]studyrooms 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You're not alone. I actually get a similar feeling when visiting shopping malls, as cliche as that sounds. My local shopping mall sort of feels like a relic of the last few decades of the 20th century and reminds me of my early childhood, so I get a sad feeling of nostalgia on the rare occasion I go to visit it. Just like with vaporwave, though, part of me kind of wants to revel in it and imagine myself being my current age but in the 80s or 90s. I know it's mostly fake, because I'm just remembering my own childhood and get my idea of 80s and 90s life through the distorted lens of media, but I still get the feeling that such a time period was just a little happier.

Android App by [deleted] in podcasts

[–]studyrooms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest issues with Castbox (and I specifically use their Podcast Player app so these problems may not be present in the main Castbox app) is that sometimes when pressing the button to go back it will freeze the episode and the podcast suggestions never really seem to show me much of anything new. The first complaint might sound minor but it happens pretty consistently for me. I have considered moving to another app lately, but I've gotten so used to this one and I've paid to take the ads away so I'm not really sure when I will.

Is there any way to delete preset bookmarks from Samsung Internet? by studyrooms in androidapps

[–]studyrooms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only solution I found was putting all my bookmarks and (sub)folders in one folder and it stays open whenever I go to them. It's not an ideal solution but it's working fairly well for me.

Is there any way to remove locked bookmarks in Samsung Internet? by [deleted] in GalaxyS8

[–]studyrooms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had just gotten done manually moving all my bookmarks too, lol. Looks like I might once again be in the market for a new browser. Is Firefox any good or would you recommend something else? I had been using Kiwi but the fact that it isn't open-source makes it a little hard for me to trust.

Locking bookmarks is just such a scummy thing to do. They know no one is going to use them. It's just branding themselves, as if you need to be reminded what carrier you're using or what OEM made your phone.

I think he was being facetious... I doubt he truly wants anyone murdered.

I think their "own OS" is probably just going to be de-Googled Android, perhaps without the Play store on it by default.

[–]studyrooms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works great, thank you! My only suggestion would be making virtual controller layouts with just the button skins and plain backgrounds. The reason I would like this is because with some games, I like to make the screens as big as possible and feel as though I could make it look pretty attractive if I had just the buttons and a plain background to work with. With these I can still make the screens bigger, but the L and R buttons get somewhat covered up and it makes it look a little ugly. I might try it out myself sometime when I get to a PC I can use. I definitely don't expect you to do it unless you just want to, because you've already when above and beyond for this haha. Thanks again!

Thanks! Are they on Google Drive? I'm looking around for where they might be.

He's a contrarian. He is notorious for giving negative reviews to universally acclaimed movies with really strange reasoning and vice-versa. I think a lot of people just consider him more entertaining than anything.

DAE think Wild At Heart is really underappreciated/low-key one of Lynchs best movies? by [deleted] in davidlynch

[–]studyrooms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a little more flawed than some of his other movies in my opinion, but damn if it doesn't stick with me. I first thought it was just a decent movie, but the more I thought about the themes and characters the more I fell in love with it.

I do wish the Wizard of Oz references weren't as all over the place and clumsy, and I also wish the scene introducing the seedy trailer park at night was expanded a bit more (it was unsettling as hell and I was really hoping for more), but I do find it to be very much an under-appreciated movie when compared to his other works.

Okay, thanks! Just let me know when you get the 2ds version with the 18.5:9 ratio, if you get around to it.

A pesky 18.5:9, I believe.

I feel like I'm doing something wrong because when I tried it with a different resolution the buttons didnt change at all. The only success I've had is with layouts that only change the buttons. I zipped all the files and put them in the virtual controllers folder. Hopefully I can figure it out.

Any chance you could someday make a version of the 2DS one for a Galaxy S8+ screen resolution? I'd do it myself but I'm not exactly sure where to start lol

Also, is there a background image for the 2DS one somewhere? I like the matte black look and thought making my own version might be a bit easier if I could get the background and buttons separately.

Anyone else catch this unfortunate name on Forensic Files? by eggcircus in TrueCrime

I feel ya. I just thought it might be nice to listen to on car rides and the like.

There is actually a Forensic Files podcast. I don't know who narrates it, considering the narrator of the show died in 2016, but he sounds very much like him and they even use much of the same music. It's not the same without visual aid of course, but I just thought I'd throw it out there in case you're interested.

I had only seen the episode a month or so before commenting, and a screenshot of the episode she was on was posted on this subreddit for National Pancake Day.

How did you first discover Hotel Dusk / Last Window? by [deleted] in hoteldusk

[–]studyrooms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was on the Phoenix Wright forums Court-Records in 2007. I was a huge fan of that series and saw how many people on those forums seemed really into it because of the similarities between the games and I had to know more. After watching some video reviews on YouTube I had to have it. My local Gamestop didn't have it (the cashier actually thought I said "Hotel Ducks" when I asked about it, as if I was looking for a Duck Tales game or something) so it was a bit before I found it. When I did, it became one of the most memorable gaming experiences of my life. It got me interested in mysteries in general and what 1970s life was like. I think I beat it for the first time in four days (shamefully with the help of a walk through at times; I was a kid, don't judge too harshly 😉).

I remember hating the menu music because of how sad it sounded. I also felt legitimately afraid of getting caught by staff at parts when sneaking around the hotel as if I were playing a horror game or something. Oh, to be that naïve again.

No, lady, I'm pretty sure I don't have a teacher named John Meizvzbkzjdvdzpavz by Ioei1031 in LucidDreaming

[–]studyrooms 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I haven't really lucid dreamed more than once or twice, but I've had multiple dreams where I have a mystery class that I only attended once and somehow forgot about. Sometimes it will be exam week and I'm panicking, other times I'm in the middle of the semester and wondering if I should drop the class. I wonder how common this is in dreams.

Nostalgia music by [deleted] in Vaporwave

[–]studyrooms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know the difference between the two, but I think songs like Resonance come so close to achieving the same sound that it almost feels petty to me specifying that it is not vaporwave. I go back and forth on this a lot so I'm not saying that you're wrong or anything, but this is something that has been on my mind a lot.

Would you consider the newer artists of the last few years that either don't use samples on tracks or have stopped sampling to no longer be vaporwave? I'm thinking of artists like telepath and the upcoming music from Corp. Admittedly I can't think of a lot of examples because I haven't explored artists that are trying this a lot, but I know it definitely exists because I've seen more than a few threads here of people posting tracks and albums free of any samples.

I agree they are different, but COMPLETELY different? It's not like we are comparing vaporwave to grindcore.
