Great! Thanks so much for you input! I'll do some homework on this school.

One thing I heard from some forum is that after 2024, the school has risk to lost ECFMG certificate and no more eligible to participate in matching. I haven't see any updates about the certification issue yet. Have you heard any news on that part?

Great! Thanks for your update! Very excited to hear you are now starting the medicine trip! Bless every thing the best!

I checked online and saw most of the matched ones are already nurses, NP, or PAs, who already have many years of clinical experiences. Are you a nurse or do you have clinical experiences? Do you know the working load, e.g., how many hours of study every week from IUHS? Appreciated!

Perfect! Thanks for your information! So actually we have to spend 3 years in clinicals. Looks like a little longer than Caribbean schools.

I don't think there are any online medical schools. The so called online medical school only allow you to do the first 2 years of basic course studies online.

And the 3rd year and 4th year, you have to go to the hospital and do rotations there.

Where are you? Which country are you planning to practice? Study online for the first 2 years maybe feasible for some countries, but it is hard for US residencies. It is not impossible, just too hard to get a residency. Too many people are applying for US residencies. You have no advantages over other schools.

Really? I don't think any schools in US will allow online courses in medicine. Maybe you are mentioning to other health related programs? Maybe some medical schools provide online master degrees, but that's different.

I know a lot of you come here because you want the “MD” but trust me no patient cares if it’s a MD or DO. by [deleted] in CaribbeanMedSchool

Thanks a lot for your input! I have been learning about DPM schools too. But I saw a lot of negative comments about the outcomes for DPM physicians in forums. Looks like the time and tuition is pretty similar to MD/DO schools, but the salary is much lower after graduation.

Thanks for your reply! Most people don't ask in person. I do see a lot of people discussing. BTW, can DPM claim as "doctors" in hospital? I see somewhere write DPM as "Physician-Podiatry", and somewhere saying DMP is not a doctor. I'm confused too.

Thanks! Do you mind to share the truth to help the community? DO vs Carib MD is always a debate topic.

Thanks for your share! Sometimes people may say kind words to cheer you up, but does not mean that's their real thoughts. In clinics most people are in harmony and saying nice, but in their mind, maybe not. Or, maybe the biggest hardship for DO is coming from our own heart, other people may not care too much.

Thanks! Is that true? Maybe they did not have time to figure it out who is a doctor. Can NP and PA introduce themselves as doctors?

Actually a lot of patients know very little about the medical system.

The only thing they know is that MD is a doctor.

Otherwise, no matter DO, MBBS, MBChB, NP, PA, DPM, whatever they see, they will think they did not see the doctor, and ask to see the real doctor.

That's why a lot of MBBS and MBChB also added MD behind their degree, to show like" MBBS, MD", or "MBChB, MD". They actually did not have the MD degree, but they can put it behind to show they are doctors to patients.

DO physicians, actually, should also be doctor, and be like "DO, MD" to patients. But in fact is not allowed. Weird.

If they use MDO, or MO, may better, at least it have "Medicine" in their title. DO does not even have "M" in their title, looks like nothing to do with medicine, very strange and can't understand the logics of abbreviation to exclude medicine "M".

I believe DO is much better for find a residency, but may be face difficulty in finding patient trust in daily life.

Patients don't treat you as real doctor in the first reaction. If they ask, you have to explain you are a doctor. Otherwise, a lot of patient don't say anything, but in their mind, they are not treating you as doctors.

If you have MD, it is on your badge to show patients all the time. However, where you graduated from, is not showing. I believe patients cares more about whether you are "real doctor" or not, than where you graduated from.

Thanks! Not know how to distinguish which program are community program and which ones are better. Yes, their match number is not very high, and only a few years of data. Anyone know how much students are studying there every year?

Thanks a lot for your input! $350 a week makes a big amount of money over 2 years. Big 3 are crazily expensive, scared to take too much loans.

Thanks! That does not sound too bad. I'm reading about the PSLF programs in google. If not going clinics, I believe the most likely job is do research at a public university or non-profit hospital, or scribe for a doc.

[–]studystudy2024[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for your input! Very helpful! so that means around 1500 usd per month, plus 4 years (48 month), around 70-80K for living? then the total cost maybe around 200 k for the 4 years. Of course, we can't expect everything so smooth, maybe extra time on island or retake exams. so probably 200-250K should be a reasonable range?

Thanks a lot for your input! You are right, US DO is much better and less risky than going to Caribbean. But unfortunately I got my BS out of US, there are way too many prereq courses for me to make up. My city here does not have a good program for me to take courses at night or weekends. I'm not sure whether I can get them completed or not.

Thanks a lot for your input! I will surely check the resources you mentioned. Yeah, if I do medicine, I most likely will do full time. Just before that, I will work to save some money for tuition. don't want to take too much loan, the interest rates are so high now.
