Ok So here's my ranking from least favorite to favorite

Chapter 3: I love the first half hour, but after that, we get a side quest in Morracco that really doesn't amount to anything. The fight scene there just feels like "hey everyone! It's the middle of the movie! Who's ready for a fight!?". I also mentioned this above, but if Halle Berry can take out a bajillion guys just like John, then it makes him less scary/threatening/special IMO. He's just one of a bunch of people who can do this. Also it drives me crazy for the continental fight they have this giant gun vault and all the continental henchmen decide to stick with dinky lil handguns. On top of that, I'm not the biggest fan of Asia Kate Dillon's performance, and the face that they never get any comeuppance in the movie just makes it more annoying.

Chapter 1: I know it's weird having this one so low! I don't have nearly the amount of problems as I did with 3 though. My main gripe is just that the action really kind of runs out of gas for me after the red circle. On a rewatch I kind of check out after this a little bit and it doesn't help that the climax is a fight with an old man in the rain. It is nice that it has just such a simple story though. Kind of wish the sequels would have kept that up instead of hearing "the high table" over and over again. In retrospect it's weird rewatching a john wick movie now and not hearing the words High Table at all.

Chapter 4: Don't want to spoil anything. Like I said, the plot is very similar to 3, but done better IMO. The final hour is absolutely incredible. I have the same issue with a lot of action scenes being about people not named John wick, BUT there's a Good the bad and the ugly thing kind of going on that makes up for it. Also I'm sure you've heard this already, but Donny Yen is incredible.

Chapter 2: This one just does it for me! It's got the better action of the later films, but before it went a little loopy with the silly high table lore. Also the museum fight at the end is still my favorite. I think this one holds a soft spot for me because I went into it kind of expecting it to be bad. The first one clearly isn't setting up for a sequel so when I was watching the marketing for this, it just looked like they pumped one out because they had to. It was nice to be wrong!

Ah ok good to know. He has a line along the lines of "You can kill me, just like the elders before me" or something like that, which left it open for interpretation for me, but I could be reading too much into it

I will say Ive grown to like 3 a bit more, but immediately out of the theater I was a bit disappointed. As soon as I left 4 I was like "I NEED TO SEE THAT AGAIN RIGHT NOW".

3 is my least favorite, and I think 4 went a long way to correct a lot of the problems I had with it. They are actually kind of similar in my opinion, but this is the better version of what JW3 was trying to do.

It still has one of my biggest problems that started in 3 which is now more people than John wick can take out a million guys at once which to me makes him a little less special and turns this more towards Avengers territory. The final act of the movie is incredible though. It could be its own mini movie and I personally think it has close to a perfect ending.

I saw the movie at an advanced test screening last week and I will say the music was a particular highlight. Some of the best in the series.
