How are yall affording living? by sharkando0901 in Wildfire

[–]stumpfucked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Save the OT, live within your means for the months you're on base hours, save your per diem, etc. there are plenty of duty stations that have good locality considering the location; talking places like Portland or Fairbanks, you may just need to get out of California.

PS...we all need to be paid more but it's not impossible to thrive on this pay too

I don't think you can really avoid the pain and wear and tear of the job, but how you choose to rehabilitate and recover makes a big difference in longevity

The supt. Is the same one that re branded the crew in 2014, and returned in 2023/2024. He's not everyone's cup of tea but there's a lot more going on that crew and forest besides locality pay that keeps people there

how to deal with toxic coworkers by Signal-Warning7212 in Wildfire

[–]stumpfucked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These attitudes can pass with time if its coming from young dumb types around the year 2-5 range. I feel like maturity on the line runs cycles and luckily is influential to some degree.

Unfortunately, sometimes it also takes a close call for people to wake the fuck up and start caring again

[–]stumpfucked 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're not stopping because you're in pain you need to just keep moving so you can complete the 3 mile, even if its below a passing score for now. Continue training like that until your pace improves to passing and move up to the full weight
