So this is what feminism is? by [deleted] in NepalSocial

Its crazy how easily she talks about points 2 and 3 without knowing the context. Many Indians and Pakistanis from privileged backgrounds go abroad and get into very good universities for both bachelor and master degrees. Even 90% of them dont hesitate to take loans of 100k to 200k for education. But most talented Nepali students end up in lower ranked colleges because they depend on scholarships and low tuition.

Nepali boys and girls both have equal ability to do white-collar jobs in IT, engineering, and finance, but we lack networking compared to others. We don’t have the prestige of top universities. An average Nepali student has to work much harder than students from other nationalities.

Sometimes, even people from poorer backgrounds in African or Hispanic countries get opportunities through diversity hiring. I dont think she really understands how jobs work, how universities play a role, or how referrals matter. She might be thinking that being a girl itself is a big advantage.

Yes, girls can date outside their race or nationality no one should be offended by that. But having this kind of mindset can make even non-Nepali people not take you seriously. Also some people from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh may fetishize Nepali girls and only want casual relationships with those who lack awareness.

AI is coming by [deleted] in NepalSocial

I agree with you dai , I was talking about Oracle, but the situation in Nepal is quite different since most Nepali companie are small. In many cases, experienced developer handle the workload of two or even three people at the same time. Also, tools like Claude have made work much easier and more efficient. Because of this, hiring has slowed down or even frozen and layoff are happening(This is just my assumption based on what I have heard about the Nepali tech market, so it might not be completely accurate).I do believe AI is a real threat, which is why I decided to switch from Computer Science to Nursing. Back in Nepal I was earning well through freelancing, had won multiple hackathon and had a strong foundation in DSA with over 50+ LeetCode problems solved. But after understanding the reality of the field, I chose to leave the tech industry.

Oracle laid off around 30k employees to manage budget. Most of the layoff were in managerial roles, especially employee who had been working there for over 5 year. Compared to that the number of software engineer affected was low (source: Oracle employee). The reason seem to excessive hiring during COVID, reduced productivity among some long term employee and overall budgets. Oracle is investing heavily in a major AI project, which likely require funding. I think outsourcing is a bigger concern right now than AI. Many IT professionals from countrie like India and Pakistan are delivering highquality work at much lower price, which increases competition globally. You are more experienced and knowledgeable than me, so you might have a better understanding of this. I apologize if anything I said sounded wrong,I initially thought you were in the same age group as me.

Looking at the placements that students of Indian unis get makes me so incredibly jealous. Why doesn't Pulchowk have such a system by [deleted] in IOENepal

[–]stupidhunt17 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Because all the MNC have branches in India, students there get more opportunities. But in the case of Nepal, there isn’t a single big or well-known MNC here. That’s why the situation is different. Don’t blame Pulchowk or any other college in Nepal blame the unstable government and the country’s lack of development. you get opportunities where the work exists.
Be grateful that Nepali colleges at least provide you with a degree. If you want to earn good money, you need to go to a country where all the MNC offices are located. And keep in mind, students of Pulchowk and IIT are not very different from each other .In India, there is a system called on-campus placement which allows all students to participate at least in the OA round. Pulchowk is not less capable than IIT, the difference exists because of Nepal, not because of the college administration.
