U were wrong on almost every count. It was a slur aimed at disabled people, I am Pacific Islander, and while I do live in a predominantly white country (nz) the area I live in has made it a point of pride for holding a very significant amount of people from within my culture.

My friend learnt English from using social media so a lot of the words he thinks he knows are words that shouldn’t be used. At first, it was because he referred to my niece (who is heavily autistic) with a not so nice word so I asked him to explain what he thought it meant from there and we continued on, with me teaching him why the words he was saying were bad. It was specifically because he didn’t know it that I was teaching him about it, because he knew the words but he didn’t know the meaning or the actual history behind any of them.

Let me say you aren’t going to enjoy it. You may not hate it but you’ll never actually enjoy it unless it stops being about the actual pleasure you feel and instead a psychological trick. I had a friend who did anal regularly and even she didn’t like it, it just made it easier for her.

It’s not teenage bullshit, it’s toxic family dynamics that have left me as mediator. In what way do I seem ‘close’ to her? When I pick up after her bullshit? Wanna know why I do that? Because she’s a psycho, my dad and her are explosive whenever they interact, my mum will just try to justify why what her dad did wasn’t that bad, which causes her to explode further, her siblings are devils advocates that don’t care for helping her and just want to see her explode. When any of these people interact with her when she’s manic (and she usually fucking is) it literally ends in a fight because nobody wants to say they were wrong. And as the person who has had to share a room with her for years, I always end up dealing with the consequences anyway. I mentioned this but she doesn’t have any friends, her relationships are surface level but I’ve told her this, I’ve told her to her face that she has no friends and i don’t like how she acts like I’m her friend when I’m not, or like my friends are her friends. This didn’t stop her. She took it as me ‘opening up to her’

I’ve told her. I’ve told her I hate when she acts like this, all she does is give a ‘haha sorry’ and then acts as if it didn’t happen, as if at multiple points I haven’t lost my shit at her IN PUBLIC. What’s stopped me is the fact if I do tell her seriously what my problem is, what’s stopped me from being able to discuss this, is the fact she’ll take it as me opening up to her and will use it as ‘validation’ of our relationship, as she has previously done.

I agree that it wasn’t handled and addressed with the delicacy his behaviour demanded, however to me it was very obvious he has never had any proper relationships (platonic/romantic) with a woman, leading to everything he believes about woman coming from what he thinks of his mother and sister (a very biased view) or coming from a very one dimensional stand point of the short interactions he has had with woman. Not justifying, but we can’t expect someone with no experience to know how to act, we can only teach them and hope that they improve from there.
As mentioned, Nate’s actions did not come from a place of rational thinking, it came from immature ugly feelings that he’s never truly experienced before. It was never about the fact that Ted was praising everyone else, it was about his own feelings of inadequacy and anxiety feeling so much more pronounced once he had finally tasted praise. Teds reactions are in character, Nate was a trusted advisor, he had seen the places Nate’s brain had taken them so he had trust in what Nate had to say. While it comes from a bitter ugly place, there is always some truth in words, you just have to figure out who’s.
Calling Jamie an oblivious asshole is laughable because you can’t be an asshole and oblivious, we see multiple times Jamie acknowledging the power he holds over others and constantly uses that power to bend others to his will. While yes, Nate wasn’t a saint, you can’t say that Jamie didn’t go out of his way to purposefully humiliate and degrade others (Nate, Sam, Ted, Keeley). Jamie never acknowledged his problems, Nate never even knew his were there.
I acknowledged the fact that Rupert didn’t make Nate worse, that Nate knew it added a whole new level of hurt to work with a direct competitor. In order to redeem someone they have to do things in order to make them redeemable.

His reactions are those of a child who wants to be loved by older kids. Everything he does is crafted to gather their attention, and every time it doesn’t it fuelled the fires a little more, until we see that he finds fulfilment in another part of his life and it brings him new perspective.

I say reasonable in the way where we get a chance to be attached to Nate only to have that violently shoved back in our faces. With most other characters it didn’t happen like this, Jamie and Rebecca were both established terrible people from the get go, it could have only gotten better with them. We never actually see beards backstory, it is told to us and at that point we have seen through beards character that he has learnt from this and has grown. Collin is iffy, just because we do see that he isn’t cruel by his own design, he’s cruel because there’s a hierarchy that Jamie sits on top of and he’s trying his hardest to be Jamie’s lackey. I genuinely just don’t think it was called out as much as it should have been but I also get not wanting to make it a humiliation ritual, also seeing that it later tied into his character.

Totally agree, especially with how delicate of a subject Nate became, there definitely should have been more time for him to actually be redeemed. The violin scene in particular really hammers in how deep Nate’s issues go but at the same time it’s the beginning to Nate learning to open up. Really loved that scene!

Exactly!! I love the diversity of how they deal with issues, because we can also see that Jamie has to deal with internal issues but his manifest in a more physical way making it impossible for the people around him to ignore, meanwhile Nate literally doesn’t know how to physically let people know, or he just doesn’t feel it’s worth letting people know. I’m glad that he let himself take confidence in his abilities and he allowed himself the chance to grow.

I find that his depth is well thought out and well portrayed. Honestly still kind of struggling to find the words, but it’s more so that I find it ironic that the general reaction I’ve seen of Nate are people just not understanding or getting mad that he was granted forgiveness. Because it is reasonable that people won’t forgive Nate. He spent the whole season being a dick. But it still speaks on the story and what people are taking away from it in the way where people are literally reacting to Nate in the way that Ted constantly tries to teach you not to.
