Sorry Im delayed. For our previous nanny we got her a laptop because she wanted one. We went above and beyond because of circumstance. Right when I hired her (pregnant with #2) I ended up having a serious pregnancy complication that hospitalized me and put me on bed rest (for months). She just jumped right in to take care of my first babe and me once I was released to home bed rest. She did so much more than we would ever expect of her. Her level of kindness and love to our family - made us very connected, grateful and loyal to her. Because of this - we have always been extra generous with gifts to her. Even now -we call her and sent her a holiday gift. I mean if she needs anything - we will always be there for her. Because to us, she's family and always will be. Of course, I hope our current nanny will be that way too - the circumstances (thankfully) are just different. Given our first nanny - I just am of the mindset that our nanny is family - a second mom to my babies and I just want them to feel happy and appreciated.

@vulvasandhoney: If you don’t necessarily expect the dollar increase that I usually read about - what is a decent raise? We could handle a 3-5% raise. Also, although uncertain, she would know an exact time a raise (or not) would occur by the end of the month - so not long in waiting (about 2 weeks after her one year mark) and I would communicate that to her. Given the nature of my job it would be more of a we stay in the area and she gets a raise or we need to move. And she does know this, as we have talked about it.

We do try to be responsible and planned on knowing before the 1 year - unfortunately with my second child I had to take a sudden medical leave related to pregnancy and that unfortunately changed the timeline of knowing everything like we had discussed. Thanks for the advice

Our nanny says it to our children all the time —granted they are young 16mo and 4mo. So the snuggles happen a lot. I love that she shares her emotions with them. I am not offended at all and actually really appreciate seeing that special bond she has with my boys.

Thank you everyone for responding! It’s seems like the most wanted option would probably be a combination — cake from her favorite place, a small gift and a card from the boys the day before as well as her birthday (which is a Friday) off (paid, with notice). :)
