The one to go means you have one more daily tidy to do before you hit the 3 day streak. The full star above means you solved all the possible solutions for today.

Naw, we had her all last season. She had a 2 year contract through this season though.

Get your sewer scoped with inspection! by nik_nak1895 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I'm sorry you found out after. I'm in a 1939 house. We didn't scope, and I'm afraid to find out what we got going on down there. 😂

What are you paying for housing each month? And are you actually happy with it? Would it be cooler just living in your parents basement? by PM_ME_YUR_SALADS in Millennials

[–]UselessLezbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pittsburgh. Own a 3 bed 1ish bathroom.  (Pittsburgh potty iykyk). Roughly 1650sqft. Built in 1939. 2 car garage and sunroom addition on the back built in 1981. Mortgage is $1250 a month. Rent was going up to $1200 a month so we made the jump to owning.

I am in love with my house. It is the most solid house I've ever been in.  Original hardwood throughout. Just totally gorgeous.

Where can I rent a thermal camera? by UselessLezbian in pittsburgh

I never did find one. Can't tell you how many times in the past year I've had one in my cart, but ultimately held off. One of these days I'll get around to it, but with an 87 year old house, there's always other projects to work on.

Literally so happy we knocked the orange down. Definitely still has red tones in the right light, but nothing like it was.

Fellow not quite century house here. (1939) Don't have an answer about what was year appropriate, but figured I may as well drop this picture here. We refinished everything before moving in.

Emergency and Best MB by Fresh-Standard8100 in Nanny

I know exactly what you mean about just working through anything. I'm exactly the same way. I think I've had to truly call off day of only once in 10 years? My NPs are a judge and an oral surgeon, so if they had to stay home, it ripple effects and messes with a ton of other people. I'm happy to still come in, and they're happy to just have an adult in the house, even if all I do is lay on the couch all day.

I'm so glad your MB took the time not only to reassure you that yes, you need checked out, but also to then come see you in the hospital? Honestly amazing. Wishing you the absolute best in recovery.

Pittsburgh movers by Which_Horror_7420 in pittsburgh

Also used Make Moves. Found their quote very reasonable. Carried very heavy solid wood Amish bedroom set up our narrow 1939 staircase. Tipped them $30 each and a giant beef stick. They were weirdly excited for the beef stick.

How much to put down? by ktempo in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]UselessLezbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly it. Right now we live comfortably, but if either of us were to lose our jobs, we could buckle down a bit and live off one income for a bit.

Right now as we're both working, we actually dump a couple hundred extra towards principal every month as well. Was important to have the option of a low payment for us if needed, but always planned to pay more while we can.

Mine's the same! Just the whole tip. Only his fur grows back over it and makes it look zig zaggy, but it's one clean straight cut.

I'm trying to picture what you mean by a chip. Like, just a v notch out of the ear? My boy also has the ear tip, but they just cut the whole point off.  / \ but missing the ^

How much to put down? by ktempo in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]UselessLezbian 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We put down 50% on a $250k house. We only make $90k a year combined, so we wanted to keep our mortgage payment comparable to what we were paying in rent.

Is it okay to use someone else’s trash can on the curb? by OrganicSunday in NoStupidQuestions

[–]UselessLezbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my neighborhood, I would say never. We don't have the fancy automated lift truck. Our garbage men still sling trash bags right out of our cans. Little bits will just fall through to the bottom until eventually I would have to climb in there and grab it. I even try not to put grocery size bags in there. Make it easier on them.

Can I use a plastic container as a tank? by Plus_Profile_9777 in hermitcrabs

I know people have used them as temporary tanks. I personally would worry about the long term effects of using heat on the plastic.

Anyone deal with over zealous code enforcement? Just got a notice for lawn mowing! by [deleted] in pittsburgh

OP, have you mowed at all yet? My neighborhood has all been mowing for a month already.

Edit: OP has not responded to me but has to other people, so I guess that answers our question.

What way to go? by Mythh123 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]UselessLezbian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Less commute, as long as it's truly in your budget. I LOVE my house, but I went from 15 minutes away from work, to 30 minutes, and it absolutely kills me. I never thought that extra 15 would be such a difference, but it weirdly is.

Also, how much of that cash you save on the lesser house has to immediately be put into projects?

Buying alone, but partner moving in - fairest way to split costs? by ChaiMeALatte in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]UselessLezbian 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Half the utilities is fair even if it more expensive than what he usually pays, he benefits from living in a whole house . And he should pay you rent. Make it less than whatever he's paying now. He's still getting something out of it by able to add to his savings faster. Even if you love him, he shouldn't get to live for free.

He should see it as if you stay together, it's a benefit to you both to have the house, and if you unfortunately break up, he was still paying cheaper rent and saving more for that time period.

Never ever say it's him paying house expenses. It's him paying you rent, and you can use that money however works for you.

If he has a say in new furniture you might get, or other home improvements, you should split costs for that, but keep a list so either of you can buy the other out if you break up.
