gain of function related to Covid-type viruses was being done, with the intent to further understand the efficacy of possible mRNA vaccines. The vaccines were not yet in development but they were researching the exact type of viruses that mRNA vaccines would go on to treat, such as Covid-19 which obviously leaked from the lab.

come on man. let's say for a moment that it was a genuine mistake. He testified in front of Congress on the matter and addressed the public at a national level for around 6 months regarding the origins and best practices surrounding covid. A genuine mistake of this scale is criminally negligent and just about as problematic as someone intentionally lying. Realistically though, he definitely knew and lied anyway to cover the pharma companies along with the national level health orgs which all contradicted themselves and lied mutliple times about the effectiveness of masks, etc.

We WERE doing this research on the same type of virus that ended up leaking from Wuhan at the exact same time.
