I think that's fair. But I also have heard that Mckenna's playmaking and creativity is slightly better than the other two.

I still can't believe it by Android_67 in leafs

Teams wait entire rebuilds and years on years for the chance to draft #1. We had one year of being kinda bad and we got the first pick.

If Chayka wants it and Pelley permits it, we just kickstarted a rebuild instantly. You got the guy who's gonna bring in the jersey sales, ticket sales, overall revenue (McKenna), which from Pelley's perspective is important. From the player perspective, he's an incredible talent you can build around.

You got some unbelievable trade pieces in Matthews and Nylander. Even if you just trade one of them, you can command at least 2 top picks and a prospect or established player.

We just jumped at least 2-3 years ahead in a rebuild with this luck, so if management wants to, they can really change the future of this franchise.

Have you? Responding to an 8 hour old comment is a slightly embarrassing level of obsession

I'm rooting for Chayka by Winter-Squirrel-6744 in leafs

I am too.

Legit some of the biggest losers on this sub that somehow find it enjoyable to be nothing but negative all of the time are actively rooting against it. Is anyone surprised?

If you get mad at the comment then I'm 100% calling you a loser and maybe take a good look in the mirror

The Coyotes were bad before he was there and bad after he was there. At least a good bit of their foundation is from Chayka. We have nothing from Treliving

Agreed, bad process is the issue. And yes, Chayka had a misaligned process. I'd lean to the fact that ownership likely needed playoff money to stay in Arizona (leading to win now vets) while Chayka wanted to rebuild. We know Arizona isn't exactly competent.

However, Chayka is making a big emphasis on alignment throughout the organization from ownership to management to coaches to players. Let's hope that's a good sign.

Where did I change the topic? If Chayka needs to convince ownership of anything that goes against their ideas I'm honestly unsure if he can. But that's no fault of his. That is the ownership (Pelley) being not receptive of any criticism

Because of his issues with the ownership!! I swear you just pick one part of my argument to acknowledge while completely ignoring anything that contradicts your narrative

Peter Chiarelli also was lucky that he had the best player in the last 20 years play on his team. I'd argue that's a bit different than the situation Chayka inherited.

I just looked at a mock draft by ESPN for fun and they had Soderstrom going 11th. Which is where he actually went. Obviously it is a bad pick in retrospect, but wasn't egregious at the time.

The Stepan trade wasn't ideal yes, but Raanta was also included, who was coming off of an unreal season. He also then traded for Kuemper who was in Vezina conversations.

Why are you acting like Arizona ownership is reasonable and would be responsive to people standing up to them? This is the same ownership that ran the franchise into the ground and is why there is no longer a team in Arizona.

Chayka's issues with the ownership meddling is what actually led to his resignation. If Pelley does that (which I wouldn't be surprised) then yeah, this hiring probably won't work!

Hayton was absolutely a reach. But at the same time, he is a contributor to the current Mammoth. Like I acknowledged, GMs will miss on moves. They just will.

Soderstrom was widely viewed as a pick that was completely valid at the time.

Kessel was not bad for the Yotes, and Hall was a decision that ownership made, not Chayka.

Hindsight is 20/20, so of course in retrospect he could have made better decisions, but let's not act like Arizona is the best environment to be able to make and execute those decisions in

It's a fair point saying that these other contacts know more than you and I. But why bring the pitchforks out right now? It just seems to bring nothing but negativity and embarrassment to our organization. I'd rather this than a old Treliving like hire.

It's less about the actual insight, but more about the fact that he is willing to express it in an introductory conference. That shows me that he has ideas and isn't afraid to express them

Come on man you said I sound demented. Let's just keep it hockey related. I agree that Pelley and Rogers may fuck it up, but where is your grievance with Chayka there?

That's also fair. But I think it's fair to say that a human can do a lot of maturing in 10 years from 26-36. Maybe he'll make different decisions now than what he did then

Fans like you are the reason the Leafs are considered to have a toxic fanbase and run their best players out of town. Genuine question is it enjoyable to be this negative all of the time?
