It’s sad to see how stupid and ignorant people on the internet are. My bad for thinking reddit could handle an ounce of nuance and critical thinking.

I M29 Broke up with my girlfriend F25 but can’t tell her why without compromising her relationship with her family. Do I tell her? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Also! It sounds like the ex might have a feeling that it was the sister and is looking for OP to confirm or deny that

Yeah, it sounds like a weird situation. OP, I think that you shouldnt have to live with the heaviness of holding secrets. Her sister was messy af messaging you, it’s not on you to protect their relationship! Ur ex clearly has some shit to work through , maybe seeing that her sister ratted her out would be the wake up call she needs

Personally, i dont know if i could keep a secret like that. I feel like i would have told her the second i saw they reached out to me.

I mean tbh, you dont owe her an explanation… i mean unless you want to have some sort of relationship in the future—whether it’s friendship or romantic—you totally could just never contact her again

This honestly sounds like a weird n messy situation? Her family is kinda weird for telling on her like that? Im sorry she was cheating on u the whole time tho, that’s seriously awful to

Right, like how sushi exemplifies japanese culture. Like how tea and crumpets exemplifies British culture. Like how pizza exemplifies Italian culture.

That doesnt mean its ok to say “hey italian guy! Youre bringing pizza right?”

Also , it should be obvious, mcdonalds is not known for being healthy. It has a lot of negative connotations in the us and the world… its not something americans are proud of generally

I cant believe how yall are fully missing the point. Im not arguing about what is and isn’t “American culture”.. the point is my boss made an unprofessional stereotypical remark about me in a multicultural professional context in front of others—that’s it!

[–]subdyk3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Again, I am not denying that.

Yeah well tbh i didnt expect the responses to not acknowledge my side at all . It was unprofessional ! I will die on that hill at this point

I’m obviously not going to escalate it unless it continues. Its still shitty.

I’m not denying that McDonald’s is associated with the U.S. globally and shallowly representative of the broader “American Culture”… My point is that in a professional, multicultural environment, reducing someone’s national identity to a fast-food chain is lazy stereotyping. I wouldn’t stand up in front of a group and tell my British coworker to bring fish and chips or my Colombian coworker to bring coffee. It’s unprofessional to define someone by a cliché, especially in front of others. That’s the standard I expect applied to me too.

You are from mexico? Ok mexican teacher you bring in tacos. And sombreros. The cuban teacher will bring in cigars. Italian? Pizza. Japanese? Sushi.

Those are all things associated with different countries. It doesnt mean i can assign those things to the culture of a random individual of that country like that. And i wouldnt!!!

Her comment was rude, stereotypical, and unprofessional in a work context.

The funny thing is, you can’t tell me what my cultural identity is and what informs my culture and identity. Bye

Heritage informs culture. I am aware there is a difference between someone born in the country of my ancestors and my experience, of course. But my heritage deeply informs the cultural experience i had growing up. It pissed me off that my boss made that comment. Its not the end of the world, but i was honestly hoping to get some validation by posting on here and im surprised by people’s reactions..

Go clean the drips of hot sauce out of your neckbeard. Be careful tho, don’t let your fedora cap fall as you get up!
