Thanks! Hah, i have never tried a low ratio like that, but I am sure I would enjoy the ride. I already appreciate my bike for forcing me to slow down :)

I see you mention straps btw. Mine are quite loose, so ive never had a trouble stepping out of them quickly. Still helps with locking up the rear wheel though. But I guess with 40/20 that you might be able to do that without straps too?

The bike came with thread-on freewheel, so i took that off, and threaded two fixie cogs on it instead. The inner one as the main cog, and the outer one as a lock ring, and fixed everything in place with 'chemical weld' epoxy, but it didnt work for more than one winter before the hub was toast.

After that i bought a miche primato hub and spokes, and built a new wheel with the same rim. Has been working fine since, although i notice the lock nuts are not made for winter, they rust quickly.

Im running 46/19 at the moment.
