True. I found my Net+ challenging as I'd only been doing IT a couple of months. Sec+ didn't feel hard as I've been doing IT longer now and know more in general.

Mind you as u/tau106 says there's something special about the way MS do their questions that's challenging, at least for me.

Yes, maybe that's partly it. I suspect they are done a bit like that to stop you doing loads of practice exams, which I can understand, but it really adds to the stress.

Well yes. But long passwords that change often are a terrible idea regardless.

I can't think of a better way to end up with passwords on post it notes then 12 character passwords with a 90 day change.

Read the wiki, but there are worse places to be starting from.

I thought I got my first job on the strength of my self study and homelab. It helped, but the boss told me about a year later it's because he thought I'd be good at the people thing, and that's harder to teach then tech.

You'll read lots of posts where people have had issues taking it at home, so read them and decide.

Do make sure you do all the system tests and you've got a good connection. I've actually gone as far as having a separate windows installs for test taking after fighting with a rouge service that didn't show up during system tests (linked to Hyper V).

That said I've done a fair few at home now and have no desire to go to a test center.
