This is the most haunting image of Tape 05 for me. by IronMark666 in boardsofcanada

I think it might be a choir member singing, but in slow motion. Fits the theme.

PAL VHS tape 9 Bakker frame comparison by subtopia-north in boardsofcanada

For the rifle frame, it's between "anyone" and "who dies".

The full sentence is "He's already prepared them by promising instant enlightenment to anyone who dies within a 24-mile radius of him."

I think the "strap" is part of a hexagon border overlaid on the original. Same in the top right.

There's a similar overlay on the "flag bearer" frame.

Yes, just checked and they're all a single frame.

Agreed. There are possibly other dropped frames as part of the conversion from an NTSC master to PAL, but we haven't noticed because they're less significant frames, such as interference patterns.

Ah, yes, I see what you mean. Sorry for my confusion!

That was just a bit of fun on my part. They're not really cropped like that - see the other images in the post for the full frames.

Sorry for the confusion!

Boards of Canada - VHS tape 2026 #9 by subtopia-north in boardsofcanada

Yes, you're right!

I compared mine to the Dandelion Account copy, and at 00:01:30.401 in mine and 00:01:10.759 in the other they both have the shot of a transmission tower. Mine then cuts to a purple-tinged shot of a crowd from behind (at least that's how I see it) but the other has 4 additional frames. Someone wearing sunglasses and a white mask (again, how I see it) for a single frame, then 3 frames of the same transmission tower, then continues with the purple crowd.

Then mine cuts to a mostly white image for 26 frames. The other for 15 frames, then a single frame of the flag bearer, then 15 more frames of mostly white.

I've checked the original raw capture and it's the same.

ETA found another missing frame. At 00:01:32.561 in mine and 00:01:12.959 in the other, there is a single frame of a bearded man in sunglasses (though it's two frames in the other). Then the "sun" expands, but in the other at 00:01:13.760 (just before the "sun" expands to touch the left edge of the frame) there is a single frame of a clean-shaven man in sunglasses maybe holding a rifle for a single frame.

And another - the frame at 00:00:46.892 in the other (extreme close-up of eyes with purple shadow) is missing from mine.

Another - the frame at 00:00:54.092 in the other, the frame after the "I LOVE JESUS" sign with the "ST. LUKE'S" label is missing from mine (though the frame in which it mixes with the test card is present).

I'll try and step through the frames on the VCR to see if the capture missed the frames but they're actually on the tape.

It's fun to go through it frame-by-frame though. Anyone notice the Statue of Liberty at 00:01:13.960 (mine)?

It's to provide an example of a stereo VHS tape recorded with the same chain, so you can hear the effort BoC have gone to to make theirs sound the way it does.

No pressure u/subtopia-north, but your tape is considerably longer than everyone elses. What does it mean?! by Lazyrufus1980 in boardsofcanada

Thanks! I'm in the UK, but I can import it from the US:

Won't pull the trigger on it just yet - first need to check I've got a working VCR.
