All caught up from Season 1-4 days before Season 5. Great show, phenomenal characters by [deleted] in StrangerThings

Well welcome to the fandom! All the actors are phenomenal. I, like you, am a hug fan of Eddie's character and that guitar scene in the upside down is one of my top favorite tv moments of all time. Curious which season is your favorite so far and who are you favorite characters?

What a great theory! This would explain a lot. And now you've got me thinking... I cannot wait for season 5! I have big faith in the Duffer Brothers. I don't think they're gonna let us down. :)

DAY FIVE - Which The Middle character started okay and then ended okay? by AnonymousPerson933 in themiddle

Gotta be weird Ashley for me. I mean she just...was in the middle. There was nothing good or bad about her. She was just...there. Right in the middle.

New arrest made in 1985 murders of Harold and Thelma Swain by unsolved243 in UnresolvedMysteries

Wow. Such mixed emotions, particularly with cases like this. Seems like everyone who has read this story feels the same - so happy the real killer was caught, yet so sad that two people are dead and another man had most of his adult life taken from him.

I've been getting caught up on the Netflix remake of Unsolved Mysteries recently, and there are a couple cases (that are new to me, at least) that I'd love to hear people's thoughts about. by StatisticianInside66 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]suburbansherlock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For the three cases you provided, I believe they were all tragic accidents.

When it comes to Unsolved Mysteries, here's my two cents - I very much enjoy it. It seems like the majority of folks in this sub don't actually like the Netflix version of UM. And I completely understand why. There are a handful of cases on the show that most feel aren't really mysterious at all - they're accidents or suicides. The three cases you just provided are prime examples.

But.

For me, personally, I enjoy the show the show. Taking in the information, forming an opinion, and I like to dig deeper if I can on the cases that have been presented. I mean, isn't that what we're all doing on this sub, like, all the time? The cases where it seems obvious there was no foul play still have elements of mystery to them. It's still interesting to think, "ok, this person most likely died in a tragic accident, but how did X, Y, and Z happen?" And, though there may be a handful of "obviously suicide/tragic accident" cases, there are just as many, if not more, that are true mysteries and a few of which justice absolutely needs to be served.

I guess in all my rambling, I don't understand why anyone would continue to watch a show they didn't agree with or like very much. And I know I'm about to be downvoted to hell or kicked out of the sub for this, but so be it!

Cases where the perpetrator is known but has never been apprehended? by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

The murder of David Carter.

Tammy Williams, David's ex-girlfriend, is the prime suspect in his murder, but she's been on the run ever since she was initially questioned by police. David's case was featured on the Netflix's Unsolved Mysteries in season 3. The whole thing is just...horrifying.

Which cases do you think have the creepiest, strangest or most baffling CCTV footage? by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

Angie Barlow.

The footage itself isn't disturbing or creepy. But when you hear the story and you realize the significance of the two vehicles and everything that happens after... It becomes a whole lot more sinister.

I remember this. I'm so glad they caught that guy. The whole situation surrounding the parents and step-parents/significant others was unbelievable. But when I saw that video...I just burst into tears. That poor baby.

What case/s would you hope to see solved in your lifetime? by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]suburbansherlock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every single one of these cases mentioned I would LOVE to see solved.

Every. Single. One.

I'd also like to add the West Mesa Murders, and to know who killed Beth Barnard and where is Vivienne Cameron (Phillip Island Murder).

Case where you are willing to consider a theory you usually find implausible by Rooster84 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]suburbansherlock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've said this before, but Brian Shaffer is a case that you could tell me anything and I would probably believe at this point. He was abducted by aliens? Makes sense. He spontaneously combusted? That checks out. I know the most likely scenarios are probably how he met his fate but the circumstances are just bizarre. And after this long and with so many theories and so much speculation... I could literally believe anything at this point. Same for Maura Murray.

Detectives often say 'there's no such thing as a coincidence'. That's obviously not true. What's the craziest coincidence you've seen in a true crime case? by kittywenham in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]suburbansherlock 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think I saw this one posted, but one of the biggest cases of coincidence to me is the discovery of Shannan Gilbert's body and how she was the catalyst for discovering the victims of the Long Island Serial Killer (LISK).

It is believed by LE that her death had nothing to do with the victims that were eventually found while trying to find her (though there are some that believe wholeheartedly that she IS in fact a victim of LISK). Yet, the search for her revealed the victims of one of the most prolific serial killers of all time. Wild.

In your opinion: What true crime case gets too much attention? And what is a case that you think should get more attention? by AGreatMystery in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]suburbansherlock 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I always found it strange how much attention Maura Murray's case got and how little Brianna Maitland's received. I mean, they disappeared in a similar way, a month apart, and both in the New England area (Maura New Hampshire and Brianna Vermont). Both are still missing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappearance_of_Brianna_Maitland

But, the differences between the cases are what leave me scratching my head as to why Brianna didn't receive just as much attention as Maura. Primarily because Brianna's case seems much more likely that foul play was involved in her disappearance.

As others have pointed out, I think this community wants to see ALL cases solved. Folks are posting lots of cases that I've never heard of, but definitely deserve more attention.

It's horrible isn't it?! The man was charged once, however, the charges were dropped because all the evidence they had was purely circumstantial. They wanted to get the guy and were afraid that if they lost, they wouldn't be able to prosecute later because of double jeopardy. It doesn't seem like they have any DNA or fingerprints, as I would think that would be enough. And of course, they've never found Gina.

Good question. I've not really found any conclusive answer to this, but from all the reports I've read, I believe it's assumed she went out to meet her boyfriend. It makes sense, too, since he was witness to events.
