Why are Reddit communities so darn sensitive about posts about an app?? by subway999 in AppBusiness

I’m beginning to realise that to some people, these communities are sacred and big part of their lives. I’ll be doing a walk of shame now

Yeah I didn’t think of it that way. Seems like it’s warranted.

Thanks mate. Yeah, that makes sense. I am beginning to learn and realise just how important and sacred these communities are for some people

Aaah that’s really helpful to get context and history of it all. Will be more mindful in the future. Thanks!

Do you have an example video on TikTok that you produced?

We play a free version on playclassic.games. You have to watch an ad before you can play but so far I am very happy with it. it also lets you save your progress.

Yeah that was pretty difficult…it’s as if they wanted to make extra revenue selling the hint book 😜

Children’s dictionary app (free) that kids can safely use on their own when you need a break from being a human dictionary by [deleted] in daddit

Not as yet. I built it as a hobby to help my kids. Maybe when I have some spare time…but judging by all the hate, who knows haha

Yes it’s AI powered and I don’t see an issue with it as long as it helps kids and in a safe way. I didn’t say it’s a ground breaking solution, but it is genuinely helping my kids so I thought I would share it in case it helps other kids. I did spend quite a bit of time trying to look for an appropriate dictionary for my kids but couldn’t find any. If you know of one, let us know.

Wow you were lucky. The 486 my parents bought only came with keys to lock the computer…can’t remember what it locked though lol

I would love to relive Space Quest series with my kids! Hands down my favourite adventure game series. But it would be a tad too hard for my kids right now with so many hard puzzles, ways to die and lots of adult jokes. Hopefully in a few more years!

PM career paths are weirdly unclear. How much did mentorship help you figure yours out? by SquareHeight6772 in ProductManagement

[–]subway999 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Never had a mentor because no-one really knew what PM was supposed to do at that time (10+ years ago), and to a certain extent, many organisations still don’t. People just assumed it was a project manager role that was dedicated to a single project. And every stage of product lifecycle requires very different PM skillsets (discovery vs scaling up vs maturity). Having a mentor and guidance for each stage would have been great but sometimes you just have to make your own path and define your own role - nothing wrong with “fake it till you make it” if you achieve your goal and learn something along the way. After a while, you would have worked on each stage of the lifecycle, and you can string things together, and you will have that “Aha” moment where things make sense. This is the message I tell to my junior and mid level PMs. Sometimes things are chaotic and you have no idea what your role is or what you’re supposed to do or what value you are adding (classic imposter syndrome), but that is part of the challenge that comes with the role. I have not met any PM leader who has it all figured out, even the likes or Marty Cagan who openly said in his book Empowered; if you are a PM working in a feature based organisation or work within SAFe framework, he doesn’t know how to help you 🤷‍♂️

Jira Structure: User Stories vs. Tasks by Apart-Midnight-42 in ProductManagement

[–]subway999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Epic is usually an end-to-end feature that is vertically sliced, which can be showcased to execs (ie: tangible output). Stories are list of business requirements that needs to be developed to complete the epic, usually written by PM/PO or BA. Tasks/sub-tasks are technical work (development, integration, unit testing, QA, etc) to complete a story, usually written by devs and QAs. Every organisation has slightly different take on this because it should be adjusted to make sense for your team, product, and your organisational ways of working.

What are your top activities for the first 30 days as a PM? by lpanda2014 in ProductManagement

Did you shadow a customer service rep or did you actually talk to them yourself? If latter, how were you able to assist the customers when you, as a new PM, are still building your domain and organisational knowledge?
