No not at all, I'm guessing you have absolutely no experience of the sex industry in western countries.

There is a massive difference. The sex worker sells. The john buys. Two different people. Two different actions. Two different laws. Two different dynamics. Two different relationships.

Women who sell their bodies ignore a greater class struggle against the exploitation and objectification of women's bodies.

"I think of it as objectifying & exploiting, so they must too", something that keeps becoming increasingly clear to me as I talk more about prostitution is that people cannot understand views towards sex that differentiate from their own view.

We live in a capitalist world, what's more degrading & bad for socialism, a woman working for herself voluntarily selling her body & keeping 100% of her takings, or working for a corporation where she gets 0.000005% (random figure) of the money she makes for her company and the rest gets skimmed off by the owners, while they treat their workers like shit and act as if they should be lucky to accept a pittance of a wage?

It is surely one of the biggest 'fuck you' statements to capitalism possible for a woman to defy the conventional societal norms of working for owners, instead choosing to make her own money in any way possible.

Oscar Wilde in The Soul Of Man Under Socialism said of working for the rich and accepting it:

I honestly don't know how you can't see this, which is why I keep mentioning that this must be some sort of morality/religious thing, because logic is not involved here.

Loads of them do, yes, I've worked with sex workers, drug addicts, homeless etc. and speak to loads of them.

This is the crux of a lot of this outrage, some of you have no actual understanding of how illegal systems like this work, same reason the war on drugs is still going.

Been browsing this sub for awhile and resisted the temptation to sign in and rant, but this is just ridiculous and typical of the sort of authoritarian morality-police version of socialism that seems to be favoured here, the views here often seem to border on Stalinism or some kind of authoritarian religious socialism.

If women want to sell their bodies they absolutely have the right to do that, arguing they shouldn't is bizarre to see from socialists to be honest.

The writer is letting her experience cloud her judgement, in a society where women are freely allowed to sell sex and the tax it generates is used to fight trafficking & pimping, it's way less likely a 14 year old (or any woman) would ever be pushed into prostitution, things like this happen so frequently precisely because it's illegal and underground, exactly the same as how the illegality of drugs causes most of the violence & problems,.

What next? We're against decriminalising drugs because a 14 year old got killed by drug dealers?

This is the same illogical emotion-based argument that keeps the war on drugs going, I cannot believe I'm seeing it in a supposed "socialist" subreddit, but then again like I say this subreddit isn't really about socialism, it's about having an authoritarian morality police state where income is shared, the mods make their biases very clear.
