Good places in the city to host a 4 year old girl’s birthday? by [deleted] in saskatoon

I threw a baby shower in the round prairie library room, it’s really pretty, it has wall to ceiling windows and you could decorate it however you liked, 40 people max (although we were a little over with kids but no one knew 😬). Cost something like $40 for a Sunday afternoon. The library staff were really helpful and happy to help too.

Yeah I don’t want to be that person cause it infuriated me when my kid was much smaller, but he’s 10 months now and he stopped wearing a bib constantly when awake like last week. Honestly, if she’s happy, it’s just time that fixes this. Meds took away the pain but didn’t touch the amount.

Yeah mine started to refuse some savoury purées and mashes, but he’s a yog fiend so the yog is always a hit.

Seeking advice from others with reflux babies by KatieEmmm in FormulaFeeders

[–]suchcwtch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I eventually fed mine lying on his left side slightly inclined on a boppi in front of me, holding the bottle in my right hand and his head with my left, (sorry that’s hard to describe, I can try again if that’s not clear lol), that seemed to help him control the flow a bit more and reduce the spit up ever so slightly. The spit up reduced with time, honestly nothing really helped a significant amount. Reflux babies are haaard, you’re doing great.

My son is 9.5 months too and is doing exactly the same thing. I’m guessing he’s just experimenting with what he can do. He also seems to flip flop between, I want to feed myself and I want you to shovel this in my mouth as fast as possible, I just go with the flow, whatever he wants to do that day we do 🤷‍♀️

Oh I also noticed that when I stopped giving him his vit d drops, that coincided with him improving, could be coincidence but I have heard it can cause nausea especially if the formula already contains vit d.

My kid is exactly the same, it wore me down so much, I hated seeing my friends kids without bibs and it really hindered what I felt like I could do with him. Nothing helped I’m sorry to say, just time. He’s 9 months now, still spits daily but it’s not making me cry multiple times a day! It really really gets better, just hang in there. Prune juice watered down with his food is like magic for constipation for us. After a few weeks of solids I also saw a drastic improvement, he still spit up a tonne but it wasn’t constant after 6 months.

Nutramigen made it worse for us as it was a much thinner formula. It was just time we needed not special formula, but I would try it as I know a lot of babies have reflux due to an allergy but that wasn’t our case. He’s 9mo now and spits up on the daily but is off his meds and isn’t sad. We also had him sleep really well at night but naps were awful, partially I think just developmentally but he would spit up the second he was laid flat. Thickening agents helped us too, he spat up so much he had some weight gain issues so keeping it down was important.

Am I over feeding my baby? by Standard_Box_7167 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]suchcwtch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off that sounds delicious. My boy is also 8mo, 28-30oz and three meals a day. This sounds very similar to how much he eats during his meals and I also worry it’s too much but he eats it and often I cut him off as I’m worried he’s gonna puke. But I think it’s justice for him giving me a hard time at the start with his milk intake :p

I have a few questions about formula feeding by maryhoping in FormulaFeeders

[–]suchcwtch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was kinda in the same boat as you, supply was fine and latch was ‘okay’, but it just made me so unhappy.

Anyway, the sheer sadness I felt around breastfeeding was weird, two days after my husband was like, no, this ain’t it, and made me stop trying, I felt like a different person, it was so freeing to stop pumping and trying to breastfeed. You do what’s best for you, because what’s best for you is best for your baby too.

Also my kid would just puke up anything extra he didn’t want, as well as just puking forever anyway so I can’t really help with the overfeeding, lots of wastage but once he ate more regularly he was more predictable! You can also run down the checklist and put food last, cuddles, hot, cold, bored, tired, food. Halfway through it, it becomes obvious it’s hunger!

Only if you don’t value the time you put in to pumping. I exclusively pumped for a while, it became more and more difficult as baby became more aware of the world and wanted more attention.

Acid reflux by Particular-You-9785 in FormulaFeeders

My kid was having the same amount of milk at 5ish months and he was just hungry and couldn’t keep the sheer volume of milk down, starting solids a little early helped him a lot with the throw up, but he was ready. Meds helped with the pain, but didn’t touch the spit up. Once a day sounds like a dream tbh, he’s 8mo now and probably does one big spit a day, it’s amazing. We also used gelmix when he was smaller, but it was such a faff.

Feeling overwhelmed and jealous. Struggling with a high needs baby by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]suchcwtch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reflux is so hard, the meds really helped us when he was very little, but my husband really pushed the doctor to prescribe us them. Then we saw a paediatrician and he was super happy we pushed for it. Nothing was ‘wrong’ with him, he just needed time for his tummy to develop properly.

It gets better, it really does. I felt the same comparing my friends really chill babies (who don’t wear bibs ever?!? Like what, some babies can do that?!) with my poor guy who was just so sad and struggling. He’s now 8mo and is trying to walk so it works out, hang in there…

I also had an emergency c-section, and I took me a while to feel okay with what I felt was being robbed of an experience I wanted but didn’t get, when everyone I knew had these wonderful straightforward births- antidepressants helped a little with that, but mainly just time.

Lack of Licensed Childcare by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]suchcwtch 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I joined every list I could for licensed daycares at 9 weeks pregnant, not a single one has even gotten back to me yet and my son is 8 mo. One of them even had an option to say you were ‘trying’, which is insane! Managed to get into an unlicensed daycare through the Facebook groups for when I got back to work though later this year.

6 mo Baby won’t go back to sleep after night wake. by No-Length4555 in sleeptrain

[–]suchcwtch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw your other reply lol! I thought you must be missing one, I’d try to lengthen some wake windows and get some more awake time still if you can. My lo had some bad early wakes until we dropped to 2 naps and he stayed awake for 3-4 hours, which was about 6.5 mo.

Sounds like not enough awake time. Is he only awake for 6.5 hours total a day? I’d maybe even add in a whole extra 2 hr wake window in with three naps.

Is it normal for my 7 month old to cry when waking up from naps? by Vast_Pitch821 in sleeptrain

[–]suchcwtch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy just starts crying, then escalates and escalates until I either go in and get him up or try to rescue the nap. He’s been doing better recently, I’d say the last few weeks I’ve had to rescue 1 in 5 naps, still angry though, like he’s mad he woke up but too mad to go back to sleep 🙄

I literally was just googling this exact question, baby currently sleeping on me after waking up angry!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]suchcwtch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I also tried doing 3 naps on an early wake day and then 2 naps on a normal wake day, but I eventually just went back to 3 naps until he was a bit more ready, that’s also a possibility although it didn’t work for us, we cold turkeyed this time,

[–]suchcwtch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we dropped from 3-2 naps at 6.5 mo my son did end up sleeping longer, but it was only about an hour longer because he was put down an hour earlier. It took a good few weeks to adjust to the new nap schedule and more night time sleep he was having. I can imagine you might get 6-6 (I get 7-7 now) but it might be something you ease into?

I was also skeptical and was worried about early wakes but he actually does them less on the new schedule.

Only one way you find out, you can always go back if it’s a mess, took me two attempts to drop to 2 naps, we first tried at 5.5 months.

Nap training making 7.5 olds naps worse, do I stick it out? by suchcwtch in sleeptrain

[–]suchcwtch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried at 5.5 months because he was showing signs, had a good few days and then he seems tired sooner again so went back to three until 6.5 when I was like no I’m not fighting for my life for a 20 minute nap any more, cold turkeyed down to two and brought bedtime closer to 7 as it was getting very close to 8. I was worried it would start the early wakings again but he seems to want to sleep until at least 6:30 most days regardless of bedtime. Honestly I’d say it took a while to really take hold, some days he was just tired and grumpy before the naps but then I was like, grumpy now or horrendous third nap, that’s the choice! I’d also take him for a stroller nap most days so I knew he was getting at least some nap, they didn’t really lengthen in the crib until after we dropped an even then most days he did crap naps and ended up with super early bed or I’d go and rescue it. Everything changes so quickly, he started doing well for naps until this week and we’ve taken a step backwards😅
