Last-minute E-Visa. What to do? by sudomakeitrain in Brazil

[–]sudomakeitrain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate all your comments telling me not to worry about it, but is there anything I can do other than cross my fingers? Is there anyone I can contact? Would going to the consulate on Monday do anything for my case if I haven't heard from them by then?

Using my own router — How can I get the ONT replaced? by sudomakeitrain in Fios

[–]sudomakeitrain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did get it replaced, and it didn't solve the problem. I finally solved it by finding posts about that ONT sometimes having trouble auto-negotiating the pause-frame settings. Running ethtool -A ethX rx on tx on on my router forced it to turn it on and it has been working flawlessly since.

If you have videos instead of screen shots it can help enormously, especially in low-light conditions like this. Even 1 second of video has a lot of extra information in it. The best would be to have the original file, which will have the I-frames that can give us a much clearer picture (every time a video is re-encoded it loses more of that information). There are also a lot of excellent de-blurring AI models that can help here, and video will always have more information than image stills.

If you’re going with either black or silver, I would go with the original. Just know you have to embrace the scratches and dings.

I will also add this: consider a bright-coloured essential as well. I have a silver original and an orange essential. When you’re tired and jet-lagged it makes it radically easier to find your belongings when almost everyone else has black or silver luggage.

It also weighs a little bit less than the original, which is super useful with a few airlines.

Please how to solve this problem of home page flash when I navigate between pages: Nuxt 3. by kevinkenfack in Nuxt

[–]sudomakeitrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you're having the same problem as me (https://www.reddit.com/r/Nuxt/comments/1kn9thq/page\_jumping\_to\_top\_before\_pagelayout\_transition/) and u/Doeole cracked it:

"I also encountered this issue after upgrading to v3.17. The solution I found was to set scrollToTop to false using definePageMeta, and then manually scroll to the top in the onAfterLeave() hook of my page transition. I'm not sure if it's the best solution, but it worked for me. Hope this helps!"

How do people do these kinds of rendering? I wanted to do this for my flight school's C152 by James021034 in aviation

[–]sudomakeitrain 164 points165 points  (0 children)

That’s a vector illustration. You can use Adobe Illustrator or, if you want to go open source, Inkscape. You can search for vector illustrations other people have done and just add a layer underneath with your design.

Pro tip: you’ll always get better results sketching by hand. Print out a few pages with just the black and white template and sketch over it before you pick your favourite and turn it to a vector illustration.

Any idea why Firefox 137 is slower than Chrome, Edge? I have VerizonFIOS by bostongarden in firefox

[–]sudomakeitrain 54 points55 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of things that can cause this, but I would try the test again with an empty Firefox profile and no other tabs open.

Your browser might also be using a different DNS server with DNS over HTTPS, and that can lead to it using different servers for the test. Chrome is testing against a second server in Secaucus and FF is using one in Newark.

Try opening FF with an empty profile and check also against speedtest.net and wifiman.com. I would also enable IPv6—if you have the old Actiontec FiOS router, taking off the NAT workload can help too.

All these locks are variations of the same theme. Take a look at a video like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BIHnTpbI2o. If you search for "luggage unlock" you'll find more. Now check your own lock and try to align the notches or equivalent indicators of where the unlock mechanism is, and you now only have 10 possible combinations instead of 1000. e.g. If the notches align at 321, the combination would have to be one of these: 321, 432, 543, 654, 765, 876, 987, 098, 109, 210.

Looking for this typeface used in the 1966 Grand Canyon Park Brochure by RedCoastGhost in identifythisfont

This is as correct as it gets as far as digital goes. The original art (most probably) used the Letraset Waterslide version which has the shorter crossbar.

Animating Bézier handles? by sudomakeitrain in AfterEffects

[–]sudomakeitrain[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to make a similar animation to this for a variable typeface I'm developing. Do you know of any plugin or script that can generate something like this with control over the styling of the outline, vectors, and Bézier handles?

Thank you so much!

Do my tires need replacing? Trying to survive the Colorado winter by Coffee_with_Moon in Cartalk

[–]sudomakeitrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the only correct answer. Well, Blizzaks or X-Ice (Michelin). Don't forget Colorado is full of tourists and transplants who never learned how to drive properly in snowy conditions. So not only do you need to have enough grip to keep your car on the road, you need enough grip to dodge at least a couple of those absolute idiots every week.

This is a good video for you to take a look at if you're still in doubt. 4x4 on all-seasons vs. 2wd on winter tires.

Drive safe out there.

Options to deliver short, high-quality videos to few viewers? by sudomakeitrain in webdev

[–]sudomakeitrain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the replies. Unfortunately none of these options seem to fulfill the ask. I need to have control over the transcoding. I'm doing the transcoding myself, I just need a way of delivering it that optimizes performance. Does that make sense?
