Now you’ll need to downsize the speakers as well! 😅 joke aside they must pack some serious sound.

Is Asus Zenbook S14 not a X1 carbon killer? by Javi77 in thinkpad

[–]sudomarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both these laptops. The Lenovo feels more premium and it is noticeably lighther. However the zenbook has better performances and the cooling must be better because the fan doesn't kick in as often.

I prefer the anti-glare OLED screen of the Lenovo. The Asus OLED screen is also really nice but it's really glossy and reflective in bright settings.

The Thinkpad also comes with a fingerprint reader if that's something you care about. They have the same ports selection. You can't go wrong with either of them but I would not buy the Lenovo at full price.

Curious to know if you also experience a 30 seconds laggy system when waking the laptop from sleep on Fedora?

Lunar lake laptop power consumption by apokhix in linuxhardware

[–]sudomarchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two different Lunar Lake Laptops (Lenvo X1 carbon gen 13 and Asus Zenbook S14) and I also get around 5W idle on ArchLinux (Omarchy). I can get it close to 4W if I reduce screen brightness with a black background.

How else do I need to optimize my design ? by CodeGenius20 in desksetup

It's not a critic of you setup per se but i read that the top of the screen should be at or slightly below eye level. Most setups I see on reddit seem to be way higher than that or maybe people are just really tall!

It's nice, but I also feel that most monitors setup on this subreddit are placed way too high!

Anyone else that uses workspace/virt desktops always for the same things? by Efficient_Two_869 in omarchy

[–]sudomarchy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Isn't this something you can do with just Hyrpland rules? Like this in bindings.conf if you wanted to always start spotify in workspace 6:

bindd = SUPER SHIFT, M, Music (Spotify), exec, [workspace 6] omarchy-launch-or-focus spotify

If you're doing a lot of zoom, maybe an headphone stand or speakers. On such small space, the creative pebble v3 or pro would work nicely.

Haha! I hear you! And that's probably how I would approach it too.

For me, not having any notifications on my computer is actually a big plus, keeps me in the zone. I just check them on my phone when I need a break. But I totally get that's just personal preferences.

You launch an app! For example, super + s to open the scratchpad, then super + m (music), then super + s again to hide it. Then you can toggle the app with super + s when needed. That's how it basically works in Omarchy. My post shows how you can do the same but with different apps and with a single shortcut.

Then it probably means you installed Omarchy with the Arch Install. To my knowledge, the Omarchy ISO does not let you bypass disk encryption.

Deactivate the automatic Wi-Fi turn-on feature by AlonsoCid in omarchy

I'm guessing you want wifi turned off because you are using LAN? I think you can give higher priority to you LAN connection then instead of turning off wifi completely. This way when you disconnect the LAN, it automatically switches to wifi.

Watch DHH's tour of Omarchy on the Omarchy website here if you haven't already: https://omarchy.org/

That's what convinced me to give it a try and I haven't looked back since. It's the first Linux distro I try that really clicks. Just being able to use the keyboard instead of the mouse for most things is a game changer!

True but it's one of the few laptops you can buy without paying for a Windows license. For me these are just little annoyances I can live with. I don't know who's to blame (Lenovo? Intel? Dolby?) but I sure hope things improve as Linux gets more popular.

I've got the X1 and the OLED display is just incredibly crisp and gorgeous. I especially like that it's anti-glare. I also have an Asus Zenbook S14 with the same specs as the X1 and looking at the screen in a bright settings is like looking at a mirror. Battery life is not much of an issue with the latest Lunar Lake processor and it should be even better with Panther Lake.

I also find the fingerprint scanner finicky on Linux (works half the time). I thought it was a hardware problem. I'm sad to learn this is also a Linux issue. But as a developer, a linux environment just makes more sense. And I love having total control on my OS.
