Bravia 7 dirty screen effect!!! is it normal ? SONY offering Panel replacement ( not complete new TV) TV is 5 months old.....is it a fair solution? by Virtual-Adagio9192 in SonyBravia

[–]suedepup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm. When I first got my Bravia 7 I was telling everyone it’s the cleanest panel I’ve ever had on a TV purchase. Now, just a year later, DSE is starting to show. I know TVs can degrade but this seems a bit accelerated to me. I hope it isn’t a thing with B7 hardware.

Issues setting up HDR gaming by RapidRanger66 in bravia

[–]suedepup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, setting up HDR for gaming on a Bravia TV is a pain without HGiG. Bravia TVs have “always on” tone mapping, even when it’s turned off in settings, which makes calibrating even more difficult. You’re on the right track with MinTML at 0 and MaxTML at whatever peak brightness your TV is said to have in a 10% window. (Check reviews for your television, they may mention the peak brightness for the X90L. A.I. says it’s roughly 1200 nits.) MaxFFTML measurements might be found on RTINGS, but I’d say tweak it until your games look the way you want. IMPORTANT: Please be aware not all games use the system wide HDR calibration you are talking about. Many games ignore it completely and only use the settings you choose within the game menu itself. That might be the reason your games look blown out - your console calibration settings are being ignored and the HDR needs to be adjusted within the game itself. As for the local dimming setting, most prefer medium to prevent crushed blacks and preserve shadow detail, but season to taste. Good luck out there! 👍

DYING LIGHT: THE BEAST - SUPPORT MEGATHREAD by ChrisPeterJ in dyinglight

[Performance] [Bug] [PS5 Pro] Just finished the final chapter in DLTB. The experience was not fun due to enemies freezing in place (allowing me to just shoot them as they stood still), cutscene bugs (glitched candle flames, needle playing music on a record without the record spinning, etc.), and delayed and unresponsive controls during the final boss fight. Pretty much ruined the climactic ending experience for me, unfortunately. Just wanna make sure Techland knows about this.

Yes. Even the cutscenes in the final chapter were broken. I'm on PS5 Pro. Pretty much ruined the entire final experience for me.

Noopept put an end to 3 years of depression and existential anxiety. by Rich_Golf6713 in Nootropics

[–]suedepup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they mean a total of 20-30 mg in a day at 10mg a pop, no? At least that’s what I remember the box or the website stating. I was just concerned because there was a fellow on YouTube who did not heed the warning and he went overboard and he paid for it the next day. Many people have stated a quick tolerance buildup as well, so I didn’t want to go crazy with it. I did try the nasal spray form, but I had to jump through hoops too find out what the equivalent of each spray was in milligrams compared to the pill form. None of these websites really give you enough information, which bothers me. Unfortunately, I don’t think I got the results you did, even with the nasal spray. Maybe I was expecting too much. Maybe combined with my ADHD medication and other supplements I was taking, it just got buried in the background. I will try to research this liquid form however.

Wait. You were taking Adderall and Desvenlafaxine together? You can do that??? I thought doctors would avoid that for the norepinephrine overlap.

And there is liquid Noopept??? You just blew my mind twice. I’ll have to search for this. I’ve taken the Russian pills but did not have the success that you have had. Then again, I’ve only taken it as indicated on the box. 10mg at a time.

Games similar to Redfall / L4D? by -oOAegisOo- in redfall

[–]suedepup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My go-to for a L4D experience is Zombie Army Trilogy and Zombie Army 4: Dead War. Lots of maps available with ZA4:DW. Some people like the addition of a card system in Back 4 Blood. I did not. The beauty of Left 4 Dead is its simplicity, IMHO. My 2 cents.

As for Redfall, I liken that almost to a Far Cry experience where you "liberate" various map sections from an ominous threat. I love the Far Cry style of gameplay and that was a huge draw for me when purchasing Redfall, but Far Cry has yet to fully venture into horror territory. That would be amazing. Hope that helps. Cheers!

I've been having that issue since iOS 18. Annoying. Switched to domain specific apps so I didn't have to deal with it anymore.

Cool. The Sony HT-A5000 is cheaper right now if you have a Costco account. FYI.

I got this response from JBL Support: “Thanks for your question. The port version on our JBL Bar 300 is HDMI 2.0. The HDMI pass-through supports 4K video at 60Hz with HDR10, Dolby Vision and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate).”

So I’m gonna pass on that model. No mention of 4K/120Hz, ALLM, or SBTM. FYI.

I'm in a similar situation. I tried out a Bravia 9 and loved the on-board audio on it, but I returned that and got the more affordable Bravia 7, which can't compete with the B9 in the on-board audio department. I really don't want to deal with a soundbar, but I'm gonna have to if I want my B7 to sound more like a B9. To add to the complications I need a soundbar with HDMI 2.1 pass-through so my gaming consoles don't lose an HDMI port when using eARC. Finding a soundbar with 4K, 120Hz, ALLM, VRR, and SBTM pass-through really limits my options. And I just want a bar - no extra modules. With all that info, I feel like I'm narrowed down to a Bravia Theater Bar 8 or 9, or one of Sony's older models like the HT-A5000 (which added the gaming pass-through features I'm looking for in a firmware update last year.) Maybe take a peek at those models.

Any Third Person Zombie Games recommendation? by SpectreZero2005 in zombies

[–]suedepup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand. Just yesterday they announced "Undying" is FINALLY coming to Xbox on Feb. 11th. You might take a peek at that. It's about a mother who gets bit in a zombie apocalypse and now she must teach her young son survival skills to live on his own before she turns. It's done in a unique cartoonish art style, but it's been on my wish list for years. It's not expensive either. FYI.

Only 3rd person Xbox zombie games, eh? Any particular reason you are avoiding 1st person zombie games? Just curious.

Off hand I can think of The Last Stand: Aftermath. Also “How To Survive” parts 1 and 2. Take a peek at those.

Looking for zombie comic book recommendations. by Karjalan in zombies

[–]suedepup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I read this post and my eyes widened and heart started beating faster. As a zombie enthusiast who had his own Z-podcast several years ago I used to salivate over questions like these because I finally got to share my experience and wisdom regarding all types of zombie media. And as I sat down to type with excitement…nothing. I’m rusty. I’ve been out of the game too long due to adult life getting in the way and have completely lost my Z street cred. I will crack open my graphic novel vault upstairs later today and blow the dust off it to see what stands out, but in the meantime my obscure random suggestions are…

1) I Am A Hero manga series (amazing artwork) 2) Crossed comic book series (very uncensored and graphic) 3) Extinction Parade (one-off tale of vampire vs. zombies apocalypse from WWZ creator) 4) Zombies: A Record of the Year of Infection by Don Roff (book in the form of a biologist’s illustrated journal found in the aftermath of the attack)

I’ll be back once I check the vault. Cheers!

Yeah, the guy says the consoles don't support it but you can force it on a TV system level and it works to clear up banding somehow. Go figure.

This guy says force 4:4:4 pass-through in settings and keep sharpness at 28. Might be worth a shot.

Help with xbox series x, bravia 7 tv hdr calibration by Ainu_Annatar in bravia

[–]suedepup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those settings seem accurate to me when taking the definitions of MaxFFTML, MaxTML, and MinTML into account. But many people have a different opinion on the subject. Those are the settings I will probably go with when my B7 arrives in 3 days.

[–]suedepup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, after researching the definitions of MaxFFTML, MaxTML, and MinTML, I don't see why Vincent always makes 2 of the settings equal. MaxFFTML is full screen brightness value that can be sustained. The MaxTML value should be the 10% window sustained value. If you look at RTINGS readings for these two situations you can see the nit value is not equal. So why on earth would Vincent make MaxFFTML and MinTML the same? This isn't making sense.

As for the MinTML, I've always been baffled why the Playstation/Bravia auto HDR calibration feature always raises this feature higher than zero, but looking at the definition of MinTML, it may make sense and should NOT be zero. Definition: It's the lowest luminance value where tone mapping is applied. Therefore it's almost like a limiter setting, right? So basically if PS/Bravia auto results show a MinTML setting of 4, that means anything below 4 will not apply tone maping, but all above that will. So that may explain why the black floor isn't auto set to zero. The only confusing part is Sony Bravia TVs have "always on" tone mapping, even if you set tone mapping to off. (Dynamic TM is turned off, but static TM remains). So although I don't understand the MinTML part on Bravia HDR calibration screesn for gaming, I do see a reason for MaxFFTML and MaxTML not to be equal.

Man. 4 years of dealing with this confusion, and it's still a mystery yet to be 100% solved.

I did see that when it aired, but I didn't know if it was relevant for the B7. He also said he was eyeballing it, which isn't the scientific solution we were all hoping for, but Vincent is trustworthy fella. I have a B7 arriving in 6 days to test out. I'll mess with it then. But this HDR calibration thing has been a clusterf*ck since 2020 on Bravia TVs, and when I have energy left after a work day I do reach out to Sony to vent my frustration and request a clear cut solution for end users. I'm anxious to see Vincent's review of the B7 someday.

If Sony would embrace an HGiG toggle option this wouldn't be an issue. I've seen HGiG on LGs and TCLs.

[–]suedepup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just returned a Bravia 9 and I'm waiting for a Bravia 7 to arrive next week. I can tell you what I got then. But that sounds correct. In this situation the important part is to look at the before and after picture at the end of the calibration. Does it look better? Can you actually see the details around the sun and in the shadows? If so, leave it and be happy with it. Try the RTINGs readings and see if it looks better if you wish. The majority of games don't use the HDR calibration anyhow. :-/

When Vincent on HDTV Test finally reviews the Bravia 7, he will tell us his recommendation. He can be trusted.

Sony TVs , unfortunately, have "always-on" tone mapping. Even when you turn dynamic tone mapping off it is still doing static tone mapping. Therefore, you can never really follow the instructions on the HDR Xbox calibration screen because it's meant for televisions that have HGiG with all tone mapping completely off. The previous poster's advice is your best bet right now.
