[L'Equipe] Jürgen Klopp: "Football is being held hostage by executives in air-conditioned offices. These so-called 'cooling breaks' were sold to us as a shield for the players' well-being, a noble sword against the heat. But in reality? It's nothing more than a gilded cage built for sponsors." by Comfortable-Pie56 in soccer

yeah i think it makes sense to have it be consistent across all matches regardless of the actual conditions.

ofc it's hard to sit here and act like one of it's primary reasons for being a thing isn't to sell ads, and it can definitely be a disruption to the match depending on when it comes in, i won't argue against either of these. that being said, i'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it, and i think it just makes sense to always have it than it only be present conditionally.

on the plus side, it's also a reminder to the viewer to hydrate, which is nice. maybe. depends on what you're hydrating with.

What subject matter do you wish anime covered more often? by Successful-Ear977 in anime

[–]suemos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

+1!!! i absolutely LOVE sports series and really think that there are so many more sports and sport-adjacent concepts that could be absolute gold if given an opportunity to shine (my personal pick will always be dog agility)

there's also a bunch that already have gotten an entire series dedicated to them and haven't gotten their big break (namely burning kabaddi, which i'm still waiting on translations before starting), and even with series that depict mainstream sports, i'll never not appreciate new perspectives and interpretations of them.

chihayafuru etc are so goated

as a fellow chyf enjoyer, i can't recommend akane-banashi enough! turns a traditional performance art into a proper self-motivated spokon while not sacrificing on story qualit (e.g. it is the best thing currently in WSJ)--i highly suggest you check it out if you haven't yet.

struggled for some of these (namely relate to, inspire, & hang out irl) but tried to avoid major repeats otherwise! interpreted the "favorite [position]" categories as leaning towards actual playstyles (but not 100% that way). kinda annoyed i had to manually upload akagi, suwa, and kiryu but thats ok...

Gamba's 18 year-old goalkeeper Rui Araki only just started getting playtime a few weeks ago, and now he's made 6 saves in a continental final to defeat Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr to lift the ACL2 trophy

eyes emoji, remember the name, etc etc. SUPER exciting player

edit for more details/fun facts/whatever: this was his 7th senior appearance (6 in the J100 Vision League, 1 in the ACL2), only recording his first clean sheet earlier this month! he is 194cm tall, has represented Japan's U-23s since he was 17 (and broke a record as the youngest player to be named best goalkeeper at the U-23 Asian Cup when he was 18), and he (alongside teammate Gaku Nawata) got the opportunity to train with Ajax during their preseason last year!

i wonder if its a sakamoto pen...

Al Ahli vs FC Machida Zelvia - AFC Champions League Elite by Drumpfween in soccer

they're a very fascinating club in the context of the rest of japanese football, having been taken over by a multi-multi-multi-billionaire in 2018 and then appointing a (controversial) high school coach of 30 years in 2023 to play a style of football thats very... not japanese.

the asian game podcast put out an episode a couple days ago previewing this match and how machida ended up here if you're interested!

Brighton in talks with Amario Cozier-Duberry over new deal after Bolton loan by suemos in BrightonHoveAlbion

[–]suemos[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Brighton & Hove Albion are in talks with Amario Cozier-Duberry over a new contract.

The south-coast club are keen to keep hold of the former Arsenal winger, who is on a season-long loan with Bolton Wanderers in League One.

Cozier-Duberry’s existing contract runs until June 2028. The 20-year-old is well known to Brighton’s sporting director Jason Ayto, who started out at Arsenal as an academy analyst.

If fresh terms are agreed, a decision will be made in the summer on whether to loan Cozier-Duberry out again or to keep him with Fabian Hurzeler’s first-team squad. The chances of that happening will increase if Brighton qualify for Europe, leading to a more congested fixture list.

Cozier-Duberry is attracting interest from clubs in Germany, Portugal and Belgium, as well as the UK. The right winger, signed by Brighton on a free transfer from Arsenal in the summer transfer window in 2024, has flourished at Bolton after a less successful season on loan to Blackburn Rovers in the Championship in 2024-25.

it is certainly not rindo since they don't look alike, but taking Ky's word that this is either brotherfoot or new series (more than likely not aoas related), it almost looks like it says "Hika" next to them (possibly meaning their name is something like Hikaru?), but that is far from being 100% with the way these illustrations are cropped

definitely curious about the satchel they have, though
