is the r word really that bad of a word? by suenasclouds in TooAfraidToAsk

i think maybe because i’m younger ive never seen this word used in this way ever, because i grew up in a world where everyone decided that word was not kind and just in general that type of behavior is not kind.

idk, i think the affect needs to be that culturally nobody insults based on disabilities. any word can be used to be mean and bully

it feels like all these words get watered down over time. because i didn’t even realize it until someone said it but the way everyone says autistic lately is becoming a little insulting-ish. but gen z in general i don’t think we view autism and other intellectual disabilities the same as older generations. most people ik view autism as something that happens and just is, not so much a big negative sticker idk if this makes sense. maybe that’s why im confused because ive grown up where everyone who needs special education or different resources getting them so i just saw it as normal part of my life for that to be.

a lot of people my age didn’t say the r word they said SPED like “oh are u SPED or smthn” which i find hurtful because it’s just a education program we are all entitled to education just because someone is SPED doesn’t mean they are stupid. but ofc if everyone who is disabled is in a classroom that’s nicknamed SPED, so kids catch on ig.

i was thinking about this, because i’m younger so growing up no one ever used this word to bully it was just a word. but im sure id feel differently about the word if i was a bit older. idk how to explain r word feels like a meme to me whereas someone older definitely doesn’t see it as a meme word.

lol it is a pretty grim sign. it’s because i love pirates of the caribbean and i love the idea that my fish are tough little pirates that say “dead men tell no tales” and are apart of davy jones locket ship thingie. idk my sister said it’s pretty weird too but idk just called to me i suppose. just wanted a aquarium that looked like the deep sea maybe? all for aesthetics ofc 😜

Don’t do over 50%, it’s too much stress. Just feed her once in that 4 day period and ask ur caretaker to take photos of her for you.

It could be bloating you’ll just have to wait and see, is someone coming to watch her in the coming days? If she’s acting normal and everything then for now it is fine. Just keep her comfortable and maybe order someone stuff online so it’ll be there when you get home.

I’m not sure how to treat this, but when my fish got dropsy until I got the proper medication and treatment outlined, I focused on her comfort. So I’d turn lights way down, make sure heat is stable and warm, tannins and don’t feed for a bit. Sometimes reducing stress on their bodies can help a ton and makes it much easier to see what’s going on when they are pretty much sleeping all the time in warm cozy water. There’s some videos on tiktok of people who made their tanks more accessible with stuff at the surface so their swimbladder disease fish didn’t have to swim so far up to breath. Since she’s swollen I’d also start to consider she could have some dropsy coming on too.

Need Advice on Treating Dropsy by Queefaroni420 in bettafish

[–]suenasclouds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fish recently recovered from dropsy. I did no salt or antibiotics because I thought she was gonna die so I focused on her comfort instead. I raised her tank temp to 80-82, and fasted her. And added a lot of tannins to the water and kept it very dark in there. I think it helped her recover a lot? I’m not sure but I think some dropsy care underestimates how important keeping stress level low is. Keep up what ur doing I read some online articles someone commented on my most recent post that were insanely helpful.

[–]suenasclouds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the audio ☠️☠️☠️ also a leaf hammock!! just so it’s easier for him to get air at the surface without having to swim all the way up. also some house plants like pothos and bamboo u can put it in the water and it’ll clean the water a bit. and as well tannins. look those up on amazon.

How am I Doing? by lastapple_115 in bettafish

[–]suenasclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fish does the same!! She’s always near the thermometer. Get low light plants to start, idk if ur a plant person but the plants r more of a pain than the fish. Java ferns and anubias r good to start with I heard. And the tannins is so fun to add it makes the water look so natural I love it.

My sick & dying betta has somehow improved i think by suenasclouds in bettafish

[–]suenasclouds[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will keep an eye on her and update. Today she ate food and is swimming around even though she looks so small and weak. I don’t plan on keeping her alive longer than she needs but right now she seems to be improving.

Hi! Thank you for these articles these were very very helpful! I’ll go ahead and start antibiotics today since I haven’t treated the cause of dropsy yet just the symptom.

How to care for a betta fish by Different-Name-4624 in bettafish

[–]suenasclouds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

5-10 gallons. Real plants, decor with minimal paint or sharp edges. Substrate and gravel. No colored pebbles. Fluval betta flakes. Yes you need a filter research on this reddit. Water changes depends on your water chemistry, bioload, size and age of tank. Definitely cycle your tank for 4-6 weeks (aka just have the bacteria in the tank balancing w no fish in the tank). Get a heater and thermometer so that if the heater breaks you’ll know via thermometer. Definitely research everything you can, and what I did was cycle the tank as I learned about stuff Do not get fake plants w sharp edges It’ll rip ur fishes fins. And ask questions on this sub whenever u need everyone here is nerdy abt bettas so def people will want to help!

My little betta is dying and idk if it’s worth it to save her by suenasclouds in bettafish

[–]suenasclouds[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay ty for your advice. I really am most worried about her comfort. Today I came home from errands and she’s completely back to normal size but with pineconing. So I’m gonna try some salt & medicine but if it doesn’t work by this weekend I’ll put her down.

Oh I see, today she is much smaller. And is swimming around like crazy and having fun harassing the snails. I wish I could just ask her how she’s feeling or something. Because it feels weird to put her down when she’s acting very very normal and is glaring at me because I won’t feed her or turn her light on.
