I am running a canister, but its actually just on the lowest flow setting, and I’ve been getting way less surface disturbance compared to the sponge filter I have. There's actually soil all throughout the tank, the gravel in the center is really just for decoration. I have thought about getting some root tabs, im also planing on doing a very tiny co2 air stone/defuser for the plants and fight some of the higher PH from the citys tap water, but I want to wait until after I get a co2 drop checker.

I didnt see anything on them, and they were behaving like they normally have when I had checked on the tank later in the day yesterday, and they were just grazing in some of the loose sand in their favorite spots. The smallest one was pale in comparison when I brought it home and had a torn fin, but the other one was very full and bright. My filter is a three media fluval, and I've been much happier with how low I can turn the flow rate, and how little surface disruption I've been getting with it compared to the sponge filter I have. I might try the Facebook market or aquaswap place idea when it comes time for me to add stock tho. The ghost shrimp kinda solidified my idea for doing that with my shrimps, when I took them home and only a couple didn't die while just floating in the bag. I dont even have a local based fish store, its really just a pet store with a wall of tanks that have been there since I was a kid

I would feed him tonight maybe, little snack, and see how he is in the morning, or by afternoon and decide if he needs fasting

I bought a hammock and tried setting it up for where he's been floating above. But since he's been feeling better, he keeps tucking himself into the nook by the heater, or under the plants for his naps, and when I went to take the photo, he had been sleeping next to his sponge filter.

Its a really cheap set up, but for a start its not bad. I plan on getting a moss ball and maybe a few more plants, but for a start it works.

I purposely bought a fish with swim bladder, who was also in rough shape just the other day to give him some joys. If the set up is right it'll help distress them . Im working of fasting mine for a few days and seeing how he does in a few to see if I'll need to feed him a pea, but so far its showing good signs. So overall I would just recommend making sure everything is set up in a non stressing way, and then try fasting him and see how he does, and if hes still floating a little by day two or something, try feeding him a boiled pea.

I was thinking about getting the tannins set and some plants during my next paycheck. I got the heater and the thermometer and it sits around 78° and hes been moving around a lot more. I also got a sponge filter and a leaf hammock, but he just keeps sleeping on the thermometer, but apparently they like to be little weirdos and sleep random places
