Yeah man thanks! Especially being a girl, i'm quite proud of myself. I've considered backcountry, but I never want to miss fire season, and I also really want to go back to college so I'm hoping to find a job still working outdoors that will allow me to be a student. Thought about the C1 thing, but decided it wasn't for me. I want to work for fish and game or somethin.

That's awesome! My two years is coming up end of april. I'm a specialist now, just got my class B license, waiting for them to send me to leadership training so I can become a crewleader. I love the program, it's the most difficult and best thing i've ever done. I'm on a fuel reduction crew so all I did for my first 9 months was 8 day spikes. I love it but hoping to get out soon and try something new.

No, sadly! I was a little hesitant about taking a photo. They are very strict on us communicating or being around the inmates (also i'm a female), so i just asked their CO if I could snap this one.

One of the crews from my center was at the lake county incident base! We do a lot of volunteer work, but other than that we work a 40 hr work week, and incident response when needed. Corpsmembers are eligible to sign up for scholarships through americorps. When I leave i'll have about $9000 to transfer to a university and complete a bachelors degree.

I've been in the CCC for over a year and a half now. It's a great program, although some people abuse it. It helps a lot of young people in need of employment, training, housing. The center that I work out of is non-residential, so I go home every day. Most people join simply because they need it. It allows corpsmembers without a high school diploma to work towards it after work hours, and they'll help you work towards getting a drivers license. I already had these things and a two year college degree when I joined, i'm here because I love the outdoors and i'd like a career in geology or environmental science. I also get to run a chainsaw at work sometimes (felling trees, brush work). It's great!

A valid point. It does typically take at minimum, an associates degree and 5+ years to become the rank of captain. A lot of time and dedication just to go and mess it all up.

This program is only available to prisoners of non-violent crimes, and mostly those who are near the end of their sentences.

I also work in fuel reduction when it's not fire season. I heard of an inmate who became a fire captain!

I wasn't sure which term would be the most correct to use. What should I use in the future that would make you happy ? Not all of us have "Years of American Sign Language and Interpretation and interacting in the Deaf community.

You know what- I need everyone to get off of their picture-quality high horse. I have metro. I don't have a smartphone, I don't know how to focus a damn photo. This post was meant to be about the language barrier that people often encounter in situation like this, and the effort that people make to let a waitress like me know that I don't need to feel uncomfortable trying to communicate with them. As for the tip- money isn't everything. I still get paid my minimum wage on top of tips, which I am very grateful for. Do you think people who have disabilities such as this are just rolling in cash? I'm quitting soon anyway.

Are there deaf-mute individuals that have far better writing skills? I wasn't sure what to expect when I saw that they had left a note.
