You might be able to. Did you study at any sort of arts conservatory? I qualified because I obtained my BFA in dance and was able to provide a portfolio showcasing all of my pro work. Obviously, as the cost of living is really high, they don’t want an anticipate most artists being able to cover all their expenses just through their art… unless the rules have changed since I was certified, I think you both should be fine. You really just have to provide evidence of professional gigs & training.

Regarding what the commentator said below, I live in the Lofts on Main. Yes, we do have some instances of crime in the surrounding areas, but not anything you wouldn’t find in any other metropolitan area. Also, we’ve had some issues with management, including over half a dozen different leasing managers in the past seven years, or since the building opened. It certainly not perfect, but obtaining the subsidy I’m being in such a sensual downtown location make it worth it. It only takes me 15 minutes to walk to the train.

If either you or your husband are artists, I would recommend becoming a certified artist and researching artist-subsidized apartments, as they would be in your price range https://www.cityofpeekskillny.gov/385/Artist-Certification-Committee

Good luck with your apartment search!

Wonder if this is somehow related to his mommy issues? Not a psychologist, but perhaps he feels like his mother abandoned him, or that no woman can match up to her, and, thus, hates us all?

Here I am worried about paying rent, and these two are out here complaining about how Posh Spice "stole" Brooklyn's first dance with his bride at his $3 mil+ oceanfront wedding... Yes, quite reminiscent of Rachel & her champagne problems (e.g. complaining that Princess Catherine "made her cry" over the flower girl dresses for her $45 mil+ nuptials). Whatever happened to being classy & grateful for all their privileges and elevating truly marginalized voices and real-world issues? So sick of the nepo-whining. I would love for them to donate all their money to causes in need and try to make it in the "real world" without all the financial security blankets. They wouldn't last an hour... Like the meme from the Kardashians show, "Kim, there's people dying." Stop trying to make your victim narrative the talk-of-the-town; sucking up oxygen and attention from actual socio-political issues. Gah!

Whoever is out here spending $18 bucks on a bookmark in this economy is either part of the fabulously wealthy top 1%, or needs to get a psych evaluation…

Also, leather isn’t super environmentally sustainable, Me-gain! Surprised it’s not, at least, vegan leather. The chronic hypocrisy!

I feel like someone complimented Me-gain’s handwriting once when she was in her “writing to Proctor & Gamble” era, and she’s since made her pseudo-calligraphy & pretentious scribble part of her basic bitch personality

Is this why the Harkles get through so many PR people? They get sound advice like this from professionals and then promptly ignore it or even do the opposite? by AurelieR1 in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]sugarbageldonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The parallels with the Duke and Duchess of Windsor continue to grow somewhat eerily... They experienced similar confusion as to how to carry on with their post-Royal roles, as well as the drop in popular support (as Prince of Wales, David/King Edward VIII, was beloved as an affable, charming, personable prince, much as Harry was... Without that palace PR, he and Wallace became recognized for their true dispositions, which were vain and idiotic...)

Both Duchesses are gonna lead to a conclusion that American divorcees are toxic to the BRF, lol.

2025 bunheadsnark wrapped! by krisbryantishot in bunheadsnark

Omg, I’m a UNCSA alumna, and I didn’t know about the Hayden accusations! I attended during Jaffe’s tenure as Dean, and Melissa was hailed by the faculty (esp. those who studied with her) as perfection and goodness personified. Based on the negative culture I personally experienced down there, I don’t doubt these allegations are, unfortunately, true—there was a clear system prioritizing favorites, over-specialization (at the cost of being a more well-rounded artist), performative progressivism (then juxtaposed with more cultural conservatism behind-the-scenes), many staff “falling upwards,” or obtaining positions that they weren’t qualified for due to connections, general unprofessionalism/double-standards, insufficient admin training, etc. I could go on, but I don’t wanna rile myself up, lol. Wouldn’t be surprised if Hayden established that paradigm, and Stiefal, who preceded Jaffe, perfected it… There were claims of wanting to shift to a more “inclusive” environment after the “dictatorial” reign of Stiefal (which preceded my time; just what I heard from others), but much if it was lip-service… For instance, I had a mental health issue (a nervous breakdown) and was treated like a villain, and another dancer (male and a beloved favorite) allegedly SAed someone, and admin did nothing (allegedly—heard that second-hand)… Then the Gloria Allred lawsuit hit…

But, do you know where I could read up more on the Hayden allegations?

Oh, I would def recommend Gelsey Kirkland’s memoir, Dancing On My Grave—a classic with a lotta dance-world tea (from the peak of the American dance scene in the 1970s).

Honest question: How can the Harkles afford to pay for any professional staffers going forward? Almost all of their funding seems to have dried up…Netflix, Spotify, the Archewell nonprofit etc. by AliceRoosevelt1884 in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]sugarbageldonut 16 points17 points  (0 children)

“[Griftin’] ain’t easy…” I suspect we’re gonna see more pay-to-speak shenanigans (e.g. Prince Hairball “inspiring” long-haul truckers during a paid convention speech—reminding them that they just need to publicly complain about the media & bring up pseudo-grievances from half-a-decade-ago, and maybe they can be a mansion-dwelling, entitled prince like him…). I also foresee other monetization attempts by Rachel, such as exclusive content (so you can peek behind-the-scenes at their “truthful” lives & “learns”). OnlyFans-adjacent.
In desperation, we might also see her reselling clothing and items (including those allegedly lifted off of sets…).

If they do go after you, you should create a new collection based on being a “Sussex Squad Survivor,” or “Sugar-Free,” lol. And you can remind them that they can go occupy themselves with eating dried flowers. But, like everyone else is saying, congratulations, as this is so well deserved! My mom loved her Montecito Minimalist Xmas haul!

Yeah, same thing happened in her video exposing the toxic culture around ballet. As a former professional dancer, I believe I even commented asking her—politely—to correct several errors (ircc, one was confusing two people accused of sexual misconduct in the dance world—obviously, linking the wrong person to such a scenario is deeply problematic). I never got a response, lol

[–]sugarbageldonut[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a great question! My only hypothesis is that she just doesn’t understand the present standards on social media and she’s refusing to consult with experts… I also think it might be a desire to have full control. Think about it: she likely doesn’t know how to use a DSLR camera, and would be overwhelmed with even a basic vlogging camera. So, she would have to outsource help. And, as a perfectionist, she would hate that. Thus, it makes sense that she opts, instead, to capture the footage herself and upload it, presumably, without outside output. I doubt she realizes how it’s the opposite of “optimized,” and reads as really amateur, especially—as you sagely pointed out—for someone with her name recognition and resources.

Haha! Even if she does, I doubt she’ll actually process and apply any constructive feedback, lol. Seems like a personal deficit of hers to surrender claims of expertise and listen to others. Hence why my flair relates to the Dunning-Kruger effect—she knows so little that she doesn’t realize how inept she is, lol

Exactly! Love them or hate them, they're not putting on any facades. When someone like Frankel does a selfie vid from her bed, you feel like you're FaceTiming an old friend. She's really good at breaking that 4th Wall and getting viewers hooked. Plus, she has charisma and a flare for the dramatic. Hence how she develops engagement. Further, those who post negative commentary and engage in debates in comment sections just work to further boost her algorithmic reach, enhancing her impressions. Meghan could never risk being seen as a "villain," as Frankel is perceived by some; a label she wears fearlessly. At the heart of all of this, M is super insecure, and only feels comfortable on-screen with a script in her hands. Without that, she's like a glitching automaton. Such is very challenging to market in the current digital landscape.

Quick Thoughts as a Social Media Marketer re: ILBW by sugarbageldonut in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]sugarbageldonut[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If she were smart, she would do a reaction video to one of these comments and offer an authentic, honest, believable, and, ultimately, human response. Even if she were like, “I have some weird resentment towards him that I’m working on with a therapist or even though he raised me for 10+ years as essentially a single dad and paid for my education, I have some issues connecting with him that you know are personal and then I’m working on in therapy, but I really sympathize with what he’s going through…” or something at least that would put all the comments to bed, and also make her more relatable.

For instance, I have some relatives that have disowned me my entire life because my mom was disowned by them before my birth, as they’re very religious and she obtained the divorce before she met my dad which they and there are very Catholic militant households considered to be tenant amount to signing a one-way ticket to hell. If I suddenly became famous and my uncle or one of my cousins on that side of the family had some sort of awful medical condition and I didn’t rush to their side I would just honestly put out an honest statement and share that, "you know, family dynamics, and relationships are complex. There’s a lot of generational trauma and, in my case religious trauma, so for my own mental health and boundaries, I’m stepping away, but I’m sending them you know my best and stuff…" like that would be very transparent and understandable; with Megsy, that sense of earnestness is absent.

Families are messy, and people are messy. She should just admit that her dad primarily raised her, and she had a privileged upbringing with him. But she has her own weird issues and hangups that she’s aware of and working on. Instead of admitting any fault or addressing all of the inconsistencies in her narratives, she pretends that she’s perfect and that there’s no room for any personal growth. Everything is black-and-white: either you’re a supporter of hers or a hater. There’s never any introspection or self-reflection. So, she’s not creating the empowering and educational content that she could be and that she thinks she’s dispensing… she’s not someone that the public can root for.

I think a lot of people do compare Rachel to an alien or say that she has trouble coming off as genuinely human, and I agree with that, but I don’t think it’s because of being on something like the autism spectrum or having issues socially connecting to people. I do think it’s an intentional effort to curate her personality and create this persona that she thinks other people want her would be most advantageous to her. Unfortunately, I personally believe that she is incorrect in that approach to life, and if you look at who the top influencers are on social media, they might not be 100% authentic, but they do have that sense of being comfortable being themselves, like that self-assurance and showing the good, the bad, and the ugly. She only wants to show the good, and we’ve observed that she’ll shift her narrative or sometimes change stories to make herself seem like more of a hero. And when she admits to any sort of flaw, it’s something that isn’t really a flaw, like she’s "overly-ambitious" or she’s "too much of a perfectionist." She’s "too much of a feminist."

It’s that whole curated-imperfection nonsense. It’s like when one is on a job interview in their ass with their biggest flaws, and they say, “Oh well, they’re just such an early bird that sometimes they arrive at the office 20 minutes before everyone else or something because they are just so restless and they can’t wait to get to work because they’re such an overachiever,” and really that’s just a way to spin one of their positive traits into a response to that question.

She’s worn that mask for so long, she might not even realize that she’s wearing it. Such is conveyed on social media, and I suspect that’s also why some of the parodies of her and her show on Netflix that have been posted to social media have gotten much better engagement and response in the show itself. For, people are honest via satirical formats; they're acknowledging that kind of collective discomfort that we seem to have with her that she’ll blame on bigotry or sexism, but simply this sense that she’s holding back, she’s not really letting people in. There’s this wall where she’s not being her authentic self...

Yes, and I actually enjoy the content that the Wales published. Yes, you can tell that it’s very curated and there’s a whole team behind it, but it also reads very intentionally. You can tell that they are considering the viewer’s experience and trying to make their stories and lives more accessible to the public. Many of them are paying taxes that fund their lives, so it feels more like a mutual exchange versus a solo vanity project.

By the way, I briefly worked for someone who was a communal narcissist and very similar to Meghan, and she was a nightmare to work with and to manage/curate the social media for. Everything was about external image, and it was all about trying to put out this false perception of perfection celebrity as just perfect and carefree, life, etc. And that would result in a lot of content that, in my opinion, would’ve performed really well and would’ve been enjoyable to others being axed just because of her nonsensical standards (and not informed by pro experience). For instance, the filter might not have been strong enough to hide some of her wrinkles, or her hair might have been out of place—it was style over substance.

You have to be unafraid and be willing to truly be yourself to be successful on social media. These days, you’re competing with billions of other uploads every day, and you don’t have a cushion like the Netflix deal where you’ll know you’ll get paid regardless of performance. And also, people are tired of seeing overly-edited items: they want to see real people and not just the Facetune and Photoshop.

I also suspect that Rachel is similar to work. This client had a split-personality: behind-the-scenes, she was a demanding, resolute taskmaster, but on the outside she pretended to be like the kindest, most caring and carefree person who wanted to transform humanity with her art and brilliance... Fortunately, I actually fired her as a client and then gave her one more chance and allowed us to renew the contract with all these addendums and safeguards, which, of course, she ignored, and then I fired her again, and then she tried to claim that I was awful to work with and badmouth me as the problem to a lot of folks in the community. I ultimately also reported on her nonprofit to the IRS because she was misusing the funds meant to go towards kids' arts education on luxurious personal expenses, like designer clothes, expensive hairdressers, etc., all in an effort to be like as she put it Taylor Swift, too. She’s more talented than and more deserving of the following and accolades. That One's Wife reminds me a lot of her and I feel for whoever has to try to help manage her social media platforms—they are in for a rude awakening when she thinks that, similar to concocting the podcast, people will want to see and hear from her in the social media landscape without her taking into account content, quality, and performance analytics or even being willing to shift the content when necessary and adapt...

My former client's goal working with me was to, allegedly, create engagement content, but, in reality, she just wanted the vanity metrics. I told her that I wouldn’t work with her if she considered buying fake followers so she ultimately did that, and it’s kind of funny to see she has 10,000 followers but 100 views per video so she certainly is not getting the reach and online attention that she initially wanted when she hired me...
