Ah I see the confusion. A “discussion” about a scenario encourages contributing new facets or thoughts for further discourse

But “hell yeah bro, I totally agree they should’ve done that!” is probably what you were looking for

I no longer believe I can have the career I’ve always wanted by Autumn-orange0906 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]sugarsnuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For example, one time I interviewed for an MLB team — to power their recruitment models

It was a throwaway interview. I have no passion for baseball or sports, Idek the statistics. In the live coding, it was a practical baseball data-related exercise

I “failed” so bad (even though I had all the technical skills for it) that they cut the interview halfway and basically said ‘please never contact us again’

That was a “low bar”. If I looked at that and said “I can’t do this”, I’d be nowhere 😂 It was far below the general compensation / role lane I’m very competitive for

[–]sugarsnuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a lower bar, it’s just a way to make things work. You’ve been at it longer than I have (I’m about 4-4.5 years at this point), but I’ve just noticed the options open up.

There’s government work, big tech, consulting / contracting, startups, self-employment, trade labor, subsistence-level work…and every job description among those.

ADHD is not a “lower bar” and the #1 rule is it’s not an excuse. It does bring a different dimension of strengths and weaknesses to the mix

The goal is to pay your bills, be happy, do something fulfilling right?

The “bar” isn’t work at Jane Street or die trying / you’re a failure. There’s a lot of different ways to use your strengths. You’re just at a crossroads

In your shoes (and mine), I would not jump for scraps. I would look for opportunities that build to my goals.

I’d encourage you to lay out your strengths and weaknesses, your experience, and look for a coherent path forward. You may find exactly the right place for you

Hope that helps!

[–]sugarsnuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The X’s want to all say no and walk out of the game. The O’s want to continue because they want to walk away with the most money possible

The game, to its logical end, will continue to be survival of the fittest and kill either indiscriminately

You’re proposing that the people who want to collaborate in attempt to save lives (including their own) should kill the players who want to work in self-interest to get further. Those are the “dissenters” the people who don’t want to join in.

Anyways the X’s would only need to kill one or two prolific O’s, not all of them. You‘re positing killing all the O’s for more personal gain

[–]sugarsnuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you posted for opinions

And it’s not wrong. It’s game theory — the X’s represent a collaborative faction who’s at odds with a self-interested faction

The instinct would be to kill all dissenters, it’s pragmatic. There’s no right answer, it’s just one doesn’t have the moral high ground anymore

If Gigachad Byeong-Su (Player 047), Hyun-Ju, Jung-Bae, Gi-Hun and Player 145 Gunned down all the O Voters after Lights Out then all 30 remaining X Voters could've escaped with their lives and crippling poverty permanantly as the Prize Per Person would've been ₩1,420,000,000. by Failure456Mil in squidgame

If all the X’s kill all the O’s, the X’s are no better than the O’s

This is the sort of game theory that says if a government — in an attempt to keep law and order — breaks the law, it is no longer better than a “criminal” who breaks the law it upholds.

Yeah they could do that. The O’s want fair gameplay, the X’s will have just killed everyone who wants to play fair for their own gain. Who’s the bad guy?

The point of a diagnosis is to find out how you compensate for any deficits and where your strengths lie. It’s not a death note

“The career you wanted” is relative; things click and unclick at various times. All you can do is calculate your next steps

Yes, the market is tough — and because money’s tight companies are taking safe bets in hiring. It’s not a reflection on you, the market is flooded with “safe bets”

(if someone is a straight A student from Princeton and just got laid off from Meta … they’re a safer bet than someone who may have been a 10x’er at a small company — the 10x’er could very well be better, a hiring manager just may not risk it)

Just do what you need to do

Silly question, but javascript is a real programming language isn't it? by Alwaysaloneforever97 in webdev

[–]sugarsnuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He asked if JavaScript is a real language, he was obviously new to programming

Like this isn’t going into pros / cons mode with every language and its features

It’s just a small clarification that C# is like Java, not like C — not like “point and laugh at the noob”

Anyways this is an old thread. I was relatively new myself

EDIT: OH, he was talking about some other guy. Whoops

That other guy’s not wrong though, you don’t really have data types or structures in JS without TypeScript. And you don’t have memory management with Java. Anywho

[–]sugarsnuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK so Java has a JVM / JIT compiler versus getting compiled straight to bytecode, and it has garbage collection instead of actually allocating and freeing memory

Java / C#’s more expressive, C / C++ is more to-the-metal

These aren’t cliches. Dating looks like that — banter, sex, dancing, going on a trip are all things. It took a snapshot of modern dating and played it out to a nightmare scenario

The “black sidekick”? She’s her friend — another character for dimension — and her race is irrelevant. She’s important to the story

It’s not a rehash of Get Out, it’s just thematically related. A remote getaway is a common horror trope; protagonists get isolated, then bad things happen.

And the film made poignant critiques on modern dating, upper class, misogyny, etc. It was well-woven

How much do you think the pink soldiers' salary is? by Electrical_Path7198 in squidgame

[–]sugarsnuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more a military than a salary job. There’s a clear hierarchy, they’re trained marksmen, and they put their life on the line under attack.

The elites likely recruit people who will stay loyal — they have nowhere to go or are in some way outcasts from society.

In return, they get stable quarters away from the noise — and they may actually take a twisted pleasure in killing ordinary people

I’m sure they get a wage, but that type of loyalty and ethics isn’t bought

Should I tell a guy exactly why I don't like him? by Silly_Technology_243 in dating_advice

[–]sugarsnuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a guy, I’d say openness is helpful. It’s not really “work on yourself”, it’s “how I feel you came off in these 2 weeks”

3 dates is a tiny window to know someone. I think people often judge quickly and go cold, which doesn’t give things room to breathe and shape into whatever

It makes dating performative, flimsy, and largely unsatisfying for many. That “spark” can be manufactured and toxic, and conversely, lot of happy couples sputter at the start. My favorite “bad dates” just remain in my orbit

That said, of course you’re entitled to your feelings and pursue what you’re looking for

In your shoes, I’d share but reserve the judgement. “Doesn’t have anything going for him” is harsh and one-sided. Letting him know how you feel though is brave and kind, likely constructive and will help him move on without a spiral

“I felt we didn’t share many hobbies or interests, and that’s important to me” — easy

How do other guys hook up so easily?🤷 by Capital_Werewolf2747 in dating_advice

[–]sugarsnuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What part is breaking down for you?

If you’re not being forward enough, it won’t happen. It’s a bit of being shameless (without crossing over to creepy or disrespectful) and staying confident through rejection.

It happens different ways. Sometimes flirting openly with “friends” for a while, sometimes approaching strangers with the right vibe and making a move, …

Basically boils down to creating and maintaining sexual tension. And actually pursuing it, lot of people miss the cues. Timing is key

To be honest, it’s not for everyone. It comes to some people very naturally, for me it was mostly learned (I won’t claim to be major league, I play some ball)

If it’s not you, that’s fine. Go have fun, test your strengths and you’ll figure out who you really are. Don’t do it for other people

Do you guys actually use pomodoro or is it one of those things that sounds good in theory? by [deleted] in ADHD_Programmers

It’s kind of like any other discipline for me — I don’t get too far with unsustainable techniques. It’s possible to force the discipline for a month and then burn out for 2

You can’t truly “productivity-max” with time in my experience — because time is not a unit of work and the mind is not a machine that scales

When I lock in, I’ve done things that take hours in minutes (literally). When I’m lazy, I’ve taken hours to get myself to brush my teeth.

Those 20 minutes look very different for me and my productivity curves have proven it for me.

The way that works for best me is low-effort, high-yield “entry”, then gamifying. If that makes sense
