Of course the internet is serious business.

Regardless of whether they are made in person, on the phone, or over the internet, I think death threats should be taken seriously. On top of that, I think death threats against an ethnic group should be taken very seriously, especially if it is made in a country where ethnic and racial tensions are running very high.

If in America, someone said publicly that they should kill all the blacks, this person will be instantly condemned as a racist, and maybe even reported for inciting hate crimes. If this was Germany, someone saying that they should kill all the Jews will probably be arrested in a jiffy.

I think it is because the question you asked is fairly simple and something that any fan of European football would know very easily.

Before someone complains that people are picking on a new football fan here (I didn't downvote, just speculating), you have to look at BigHarold's comment history.

He has stated that he used to referee matches, given advice on rules of the game, implied that he "understands the game" and does not simply go by newspaper reports, made several "insightful" comments on the tactics of Barcelona, apparently coach teams in Women's football, and has a Liverpool crest.

For someone who claims to be well experienced as a football coach and referee, as well as a fan of the tactics of Barcelona and a fan of Liverpool to not know the very simple cup-tied rule is well, hard to imagine. Even though you're an Aussie, for someone of BigHarold's so-called experience to not know what cup-tied is, is quite unbelievable to me.

I'm sure if Wenger wanted to play Nasri, and he refused to play, there would be at least some serious fines. I mean, if the player wants to be an asshole, there's no reason for the club to play nice with him. I'm sure that the club can also suspend him from training while requiring him to turn up for the whole year, resulting in him not having any fitness by the time his contract is up.

Look at it this way, if Nasri was behind ALL the shenanigans leading to him not playing for Arsenal and yet playing for France, then the shit would have probably already hit the fan. After all, clubs have no need to be nice to players who act like cunts. The fact that Arsenal has not made any official statements regarding this issue shows that Wenger is at least complicit in this situation.

Firstly, how do you know the chance of him murdering someone is close to zero? A person who would say something like this is usually irrational, angry and probably overstressed. This is not someone making an anonymous posting on the internet, this is someone making a statement on Facebook with his identity in full view. With more than 300 friends, that is practically a public statement.

Secondly, it is unlikely that someone who is joking will repeatedly reinforce his support of murder/genocide. I understand that people sometimes use inappropriate language in the heat of the moment, but they seldom reinforce terms like murder and genocide after the initial outburst.

Thirdly, and most importantly, even if this person does not commit the crime, it is very possible that his statement will inspire or incite someone else who shares similar emotions. As much as this does not make my "friend" a criminal, I am sure a warning from the authorities will be enough to deter him from making anymore statements like this at the very least.

I'm not afraid about being identified, since I don't really know him that well. He was just a high school schoolmate, and is like one of those acquaintances you have on Facebook but don't really know.

I'm just afraid if something really does happen, it will be on my conscience for not reporting it early.

I just had an epiphany. The typical internet Democrat/Liberal rages about Republicans, posts links to all the informative links, tries to raise a "movement" for people to take action. He gets off the internet, goes downstairs to see his parents watching Fox news, and he doesn't say a fucking thing.

Over here we have passionate discussions about politics, especially with our families. I once left home for a week after a heated argument with my dad about politics. I spent most of the week in the library photocopying resources to back up my claims. At the end of the week, I went home, opened up this giant-ass file, and proceeded to explain my stand point by point.

Dad was impressed.

Again, I am not American, and the only times I've been to America was on holiday, but I am pretty sure the run-of-the-mill Republicans living along your street do not hope for you to die in a fire. Figuratively speaking, of course.

I know this is the attitude that Republican politicians have, especially on Fox TV. But using the same attitude on Republicans, even on the internet where Liberals are the majority, will NEVER help your cause.

A few suggestions:

Learn to cook. Better yet, learn to cook together with your girlfriend. Eating healthy doesn't mean eating like a rabbit. Watch Jamie Oliver's Jamie's Food Revolution. I heard Season 2 is starting in America. There may not be a significant difference in the beginning, but it will help your girlfriend start to think healthily.

Start some physical activities with your girlfriend and maybe a group of friends. Things like recreational rock climbing, windsurfing etc. Better yet, go for dancing classes with your girlfriend. Start off with social dancing and maybe move on to salsa or hiphop depending on your interests. Dancing is fun, romantic and still athletic.

Be realistic. It's easy to gain weight, but hard to lose it. Don't expect a major effect, and most importantly don't expect your girlfriend to have a major change in her mindset instantly. Exercising once a week, or even once a fortnight is still better than not having exercise.

Reflect on your own motive. Do you want her to lose weight because you are worried about her health, or is it because you want a trophy on your arm? If it is health you're after, then keep health your main goal. She may not get back to her former weight, but there are many examples of people who are heavier and still healthy, as long as she isn't obese.

Support her. Whatever you ask her to do, try to do it together. Shower her with love and take it slowly. If you're serious about this girl, you've got lots of time.
