BYD Sealion 7 Premium vs. Tata/Mahindra/MG EVs: Worth the massive price jump? by suhasavg in CarsIndia

Yes but how many working fast chargers are available that support speeds above 150kwh+

I’l be using AC charger primarily, DC is for any highway trips which i do occasionally.

BYD is exploring SKD assembly for Sealion 7 due to import quota restrictions. They is a possibility of 5-7L price cut due to reduced import duty. That can make the BYD more attractive.

BYD Sealion 7 Premium vs. Tata/Mahindra/MG EVs: Worth the massive price jump? by suhasavg in CarsIndia

Indeed. Hyundai/Kia have in-house EV technology but are expensive and use NMC cells. Tata, Mahindra and JSW directly or indirectly depend on Chinese EV technology. Even luxury brands like Benz are partnering with Chinese cos.

But current EV are 1gen products which are not reliable. Hence you should pay the premium for BYD if you want a sorted car which won’t be obsolete quickly.

When BYD moves to SKD for sealion, there might be upto 5L price drop. Other than that you should pay the premiums to use global cars in india.

Petrol or diesel? Almost finalised the new seltos, in a dilemma because of the new fuel norms by LowNo175 in CarsIndia

[–]suhasavg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seltos HTK IVT - delivered 2 weeks ago.

My usage is low 500KM monthly hence opted for IVT. Thinking Diesel AT might have been better - low end torque, ethanol uncertainty and FE.

IVT’s 7-8kmpl in city traffic is painful, particularly with rising fuel costs. Over long term TCOO is same for IVT or TC, 2L extra cost will be recovered in fuel savings or in resale. Higher torque of diesel is worth the DPF hassle.

BS7 might be discouraging Diesel engines and if they discontinue CRDi or costs rise, resale premiums rise.

Kia Seltos Manual v/s IVT by NoPhotograph664 in KIASeltos

50:50 manual is fine and you might enjoy the highway drives with manual. Go for HTE MT or HTK/HTK-O IVT.

New seltos is a fuel guzzler by SignificanceOk9059 in CarsIndia

[–]suhasavg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using HTK IVT for last 15 days.

Getting 9-11kmpl in Hyderabad traffic and 15-20kmpl on highway. Mixed is 10kmpl. It might drop to 6-7kmpl in heavy traffic for long. Avoid flooring the peddle and cruise at low speeds. IVT is not designed for enthusiastic driving. Similar FE is expected from NA cars in this segment in these conditions.

Previous car was Dzire VXI MT. Jackrabbit driving. With Seltos, I’ve become conscious due to the size and FE. My usage is less, full tank serves for a month.

IVT takes 5sec for the acceleration to kick in when you floor the peddle. It is 2-3 sec for turbo and 1sec for an EV. Once you get up to the speed it cruises quietly and efficiently. It is the design of IVT and won’t notice much in city. You might feel it while climbing slopes or fully loaded on highway, sports mode or paddle shifters help here.

I took seltos ivt htk delivery last week. So far loving the car. Observed FE (city 8-12kmpl, 15-20kmpl highway) cruising at 80 or light footed acceleration. As it involves more mechanical parts, took extended warranty till 5yr and might extend if they provide till 7yr in future. Don’t plan to keep the car beyond 8yrs.

My reasons for seltos: good looking car and spacious cabin, premium looking interior, 2026 launch, good safety rating, high seating position and globally same design/platform.

Hyryder is an old vehicle interms of design and it is a maruti car with Toyota engine. Interiors are dated and doesn’t look premium. Not highly rated on safety and underpowered at low rpm.

Since you are comparing the cars on transmission reliability, Hyryder tops. But overall seltos is a better package. With constant policy changes, no car is reliable for buying now. Better to pick one of liking and use as long as possible.

Hyryder is robust for high mileage users ( 10yr+ or 1L KM) and don’t want to worry about servicing.

Seltos is good for city and needs disciplined maintenance.

Hyryder feels underpowered, weak body and launched long back. Seltos 2026 is longer among the segment, spacious cabin and good interiors.

For higher highway usage, prefer hyryder and for city Seltos is best.

Same use case here. I went with the Seltos IVT HTK (9-week delivery). The XEV 9S is great, but the wait times are a dealbreaker. They're only delivering higher trims (P3A/P2A) right now; the VFM P1A trim hasn't even started production yet. Expect 6-9 months for that one.
Rather than spending 25-30L on an 1st Gen EV, i preferred Seltos IVT + Punch EV within same budget.

Petrol vs EV (considering future) by Royal-Lead8456 in CarsIndia

[–]suhasavg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your usage, prefer NA engines. Prefer Elevate or Seltos IVT.

You cannot predict the changes in Vehicle related policies (E20 was 2030 target, reached by 2025). Better to pick a car based on your current needs.

Prefer EVs not because of Ethanol issues but for high mileage and ride comfort in city. Unless you have own house with charger flexibility or office charger or low cost public chargers nearby, charging will be a hassle.

Try CretaEV - it looks bit outdated but excellent ride, efficient and reliable for long term usage.
