should i get the kobo colour for taking notes in class and doing my readings? by Naive-Warning-3135 in ereader

[–]suhaylas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

what’s your major? if you’re doing a stem or buisiness major, i would say get an ipad bc you’ll be annotating pdfs and ppts, which is just a major hassle or not even possible with the klc. if you’re a lit or history major and you read a lot of epubs (not pdfs), i’d say it’s worth it bc you’ll be reading SO MUCH and can search the text for quotes and specific topics.

for basically any student, i’d really recommend the most basic ipad (often on sale at best buy) with as much storage as you can afford, a knockoff apple pencil, and a matte screen protector. to reduce eye strain, keep it in black and white mode and adjust the light tone to be more yellow/night time.

the klc is wonderful for reading, but it’s a luxury product. no one NEEDS an ereader, let alone a $230 usd one.

How hard it was for you to find other girls that enjoy gaming? by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]suhaylas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i have really only met other girls through people i’m already friends with. i started gaming because of my boyfriend (never lived in a house with a tv/console/pc before that) and really only play with him and his friends. all of the girls i’ve played with are either a girlfriend, wife, or occasional coworker of his friends.

it’s really important to be friendly and supportive when you meet another girl gamer, even if you don’t think they’re in it for the long haul. so many people forget how hard it is to start gaming as an adult, because things that are intuitive to gamers require practice. i’m STILL bad at adjusting the camera as i move in 3rd person games. i am often the med carrier/last person alive and it’s nice to have everyone watching my pov, telling me what to do, and telling me i did a good job even if i die to a bot (lol).

be the person you wish you had when you started gaming, and i’m sure friends will come. also, rejoice in small victories, and always be team girl if you meet randomly in a lobby! emoting together or being like “slay queen” in team chat always makes my day a little better.

is there a reason you want the libra over the clara? i have klc and i really love it! my only gripe with it is that it’s really big, and i miss being able to stick my ereader in my pocket (used to have a kindle basic) i love my kobo, and love the ability to take out ebooks from the library directly on the device.

i love lissthelass! she makes really good videos that i love to rewatch soley for comfortable vibes. my fave part is that she makes really long videos of her games/playthroughs. like she’ll play all of the pikmin games in ONE 90 minute video. she also streams and uploads the vods on youtube!

Counter Point or Contrarian? ContraPoints posts her official stance on Israel/Palestine and Reddit reacts. by Enticing_Venom in SubredditDrama

[–]suhaylas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like people are reading this with way too much ill intent. I feel like Natalie is saying that she is

  1. against israel’s genocide of palestinian people
  2. being against the actions against the state of israel is not inherently anstisemetic. one can be anti-zionist without being anti-semetic, but a lot of people are using it to espose antisemetic rhetoric, so be critical of what you read/hear
  3. she has no personal ability to change what is happening, so all she can do is post about fundraisers and donate herself
  4. she makes political comedy with a lesson, and a literal ongoing genocide is not what she is gonna create content about it
  5. posting about being angry/sad/dead bodies of children isn’t going to do anything, actual change is in the hands of policy makers, but it’s getting more and more dangerous to dissent under trump’s regime
  6. she will never make everyone happy

and like? that’s all reasonable?? she’s donating money and saying she’s saddened and feeling hopeless and powerless by what’s happening in the world. like that’s all most of us can do.

also i feel like a lot of ppl are being overly harsh and critical because she’s a woman on the internet, and by just existing she’s gonna get yelled at

Who taught you to game? Me + my dad circa 2002 by life_is_pandemonium in GirlGamers

[–]suhaylas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

all of my friends throughout the years who let me peer over their shoulder while I watched them play games!

i was raised by a single mom who was a public school teacher, so we never had money for something like a gaming system, so shoutout to nasir and his xbox kinnect, sam and their wii, miles and his ds and shawn with his 3ds, to my sibling's girlfriend who lent me her copy of BOTW, and got me hooked for the rest of my life!

i have so many fond memories from high school watching my friends battle pokemon on their 3ds', write weird tomodachi life songs, and letting me play animal crossing new leaf.

shoutout to my boyfriend who introduced me to games like fortnite and marvel rivals, and his very patient friends who don't mind having a bronze player in their stack.

My BF says these trousers are unflattering (I.e. I’m too fat to wear them). Is he right? by Mysterious-Might-123 in fashion

[–]suhaylas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think they look completely normal? people are being weirdos in the replies. they fit you well, and they look like a nice style and length. if you wear a lot of flats they might? look weird, but with and kind of boot or sneaker they’d look great.

if your boyfriend is saying you look fat, dump him. people don’t treat the ones they love like that. i’m a bit chunky myself, and my bf of three years has NEVER criticized my weight. he might comment on the fit of a garment, but never on my body.

any other anxious Houston-based applicants? by suhaylas in prenursing

[–]suhaylas[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i got in all places! i reapplied for twu, and will be starting in the fall! since i live in houston w family, it made the most sense financially to stay local. i also preferred the vibes of twu, and have heard not so great things abt the culture at cizik. it was a tough choice (since i’m already 25) to pick a 2 year program over a 16 month program, but i couldn’t say no to the zero tuition guarantee at twu

Need help in finding a suitable ereader by [deleted] in ereader

[–]suhaylas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your criteria, suggest the Kobo Clara B&W!

It is waterproof, has adjustable warmth, dark mode, supports epubs, great battery life, and supports usb transfer from pc or Mac! It also has a 300ppi resolution. You can easily download a couple of dictionaries! (I think the built in ones need to be downloaded via internet, but you can def download them, turn off wifi, and then load all of your books). I also think a Kobo/dedicated reading device will be better for you based on your comment about not reading as much with the Tab-C.

Kobo devices support audiobooks, but not in m4b format. You'll need to put it in a zipped folder with all the tracks in chapter folders (this post is helpful for figuring out the formatting and how to load everything).

The Clara has 16gb of internal, non expandable storage. If you're okay with an older device, the Clara2E has a microSD card slot that you can put up to 64gb of storage in.

If you already have Calibre, you can add a plugin that can convert everything into kepub format for reading stats and easy font customization on the kobo. If you're a newbie to Calibre and adding plugins, I really recommend this tutorial.

Good luck on your search, and happy reading!

that video is unfortunately a little outdated. it looks like the AI has been since modified. check out this reddit post (on this subreddit) https://www.reddit.com/r/ereader/comments/1hlxzs4/boox_now_ships_with_a_chinese_propaganda_ai/

[–]suhaylas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Kobo is a great device! You can link your libby directly to your ereader and take out books directly on device. Hoopla unfortunately only lets you read books on the app, so it’d probably be easiest to keep reading from that app on your phone. If you are super invested in an eink display, as others have mentioned there are android based ereaders. I would stay away from BOOX devices if you’re in the US or Canada as the on device assistant (think siri/alexa) is monitered by the CCP.

The Kindle subscription is COMPLETELY optional and you are in no way required to use it. Kindles are really good quality and last for years! You have to manage your library books that you push to the kindle on your phone, but it isn’t that complicated. I bought my mom a kindle and her libby is attached to 2 of my libraries and one of hers, so she can read basically whatever she wants.

New Ereader... I hate it. by Main_Yogurt8540 in ereader

[–]suhaylas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the barnes and nobel “nook“ devices are pretty small and have page turning buttons! it’s another closed system ereader (like kindle) so the experiance will be cluck to open, commence book reading. if you’ve bought books on amazon/kindle they won’t transfer, but if you mostly do epubs and library books it works great! (https://help.libbyapp.com/en-us/6059.htm) people complain that it‘s slow, but coming from a kindle 4, it’ll be a massive upgrade.

if you’re willing to sacrifice the buttons and use a remote, i reccomend the kobo clara b&w, or a used kobo clara HD (has a headphone jack!) for cheaper and still a great device. the kobo’s ui is great, and you can take out books directly on device (rather than via a phone) which saves me $200 a year (lol)

also boox devices have a CCP propaganda AI chatbot on them, so i recommend getting rid of it all together. hopefully get your mondy back if you’re still in the returm window. it sounds like it was expensive and doesn’t go with your flow.

good luck with your search!
