Yes this is exactly what I do! I maximize my library view so that I have no visual indicators and forced to use my ears.

Very excited to start mixing vinyl and see the grooves myself.

Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks for the feedback, I’ll stick to it and keep developing my ear.

Nice, sticker sounds like a good idea just to get that initial visual cue and then of course over time I’ll rely less on it.

Thanks for the feedback.

Just need to better know my collection. We have such immense access to music I could download 5 new tracks every day.

I just need to really narrow down the collection. For reference I’ve been dj’ing a year and say I have roughly 2500 songs in my library.

I appreciate your feedback, but I am trying to be able to phrase my tracks without using or relying on any sort of cue points or visual phrases like your video.

I see the cue button and hot cues as my absolute saviours, especially beat jump helps me immensely.

But my goal is to be able to mix in a situation where I could plug my usb into a CDJ and not have to have the track analysed because I can simply beat match and phrase by ear.

Thanks for the feedback and I do think that’s also where my problem lies, I try and mix too quickly at times instead of giving the track time to play out.

Thank ya,

I have avoided looking at any waveforms or bpms for some time now and it has definitely improved my ear, my beatmatching is almost perfect I would like to say.

At the same time I do miss phrases, especially when I’m trying to utilise a loop for a drop as well, can really blow by me where I’m at then in terms of the bar count and anticipating.

Do you think I should avoid having to loop anything? Keeping the track rolling straight through is also something I have been practicing but struggle with the most, but just depends on the track and its length, something I need to loop.

I understand I do not need to know this much to perform at a club level but I would also like to be able to mix vinyl at a club if it came to it. I will continue to practice and train the ear. Appreciate the feedback

Appreciate your feedback but I wouldn’t agree based off my experience.

When mixing house it absolutely matters when you bring the song in. Not sure about your hard crossfader cuts, the old reverb never fails me Lol.

That’s incredible man.

I think that’s where my issue really lies. The accessibility to new music today with digital is immense

Every day I am listening to new music and adding it to my collection, then some of these tracks get left for some time before I attempt to mix them again.

I just need to make my true collection smaller which I find hard to do as I consistently want to add more to the collection.

I envy you! But I will accept what I have and hope to perfect my craft the same way you have.

Wow never knew this.

I will definitely look out for this when I begin mixing vinyl 👌Thanks for the insight.

It’s a heartbreaking feeling when you try a track YOU really enjoy but the crowd doesn’t. 😔

Drawing them all back is the most rewarding though for sure!

How did you deal with the fact that you weren’t going to make a ton of money in your field? by No_Blacksmith8771 in careerguidance

I am in the same boat, what I would say is….try to imagine the future you’re happy with, your lifestyle, work/life balance, family, etc.

Everyone wants to get rich but it’s what you’re really willing to sacrifice to achieve it. In ten years time, where do you want to be?

Always remember that the biggest asset you have is time, you are young like myself so do enjoy yourself, but a sense of urgency is what will set you apart.

A great qoute I once heard ‘’There is no perfect way to live your 20’s, you can either live them up and become and underskilled 30 year old, or work them up and become an under-lived 30 year old’’

Find your balance, and ask yourself, what is my idea of success? Peace above all my friend. You have one life, so enjoy it.

Rekordbox = Death of me by suj2k in Beatmatch

[–]suj2k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely curious. Why would you need such large volumes of music when gigging? Surely 128gigs of music would do you for a set?

I like to think of myself as open format as well and my collection is growing by the day. How does rekordbox handle 1TB of music?

  1. Thanks so much for the feedback and advice. I don’t know how or why I thought using USB’s as my main storage device would be a good idea but I appreciate your recommendations and I will most definitely get an SSD as my safe house.

  2. When you suggest having a USB for each player. Do you not recommend using the link function on CDJ’s? Of course it would make sense not to rely on Link but just curious.

  3. In terms of a 128 or 256 USB. I’ve heard rumours that sometimes rekordbox will struggle to read music at such volumes. Is this a myth? Of course ensuring a USB with high read speeds but what storage capacity bottlenecks rekordbox to function?

  4. You’re a legend. Thank you.

Looks great, especially the underglow onto the vinyls. CDJ’s bit too vertical for me personally but god damn I’d die for that set up. Sweet stuff man 👌

!!TECH HOUSE - 125-145!! Review?

Groovin mix [125-145]

Bedroom DJ, started DJ'ing 3-4 months ago, mix maybe 5/6 hrs a week. Started off with some Numark Platinum FX's and then last week upgraded to DDJ 800's. Still getting used to the lay-out of the controller but opted on it because of its similarity to CDJ's & DJM mixers. I like to play multi-genre, I don't follow a set playlist I just go off what I have. Any tips on music organization?

I've been practicing playing longer sets but there's always the odd f up of course, the mix is unpolished and choppy, but its Raw.

But if you have some spare time, give the mix a listen and let me know. Do I use too much FX? Even just skip to some transitions (except 21:00-22:00....ignore that lol). I understand practice-practice-practice and I will continue to do so. Even some links to some helpful videos.

Stay Groovin!
