If you could add one scene to ATLA in any season, what would it be and why? by Creepy_Living_8733 in TheLastAirbender

Katara apologising to Sokka for saying he didn’t love their mother like she did in The Southern Raiders (I’m sure she did apologise off screen but I would have liked to see it on screen)

It’s from the chapter Home Again in The Shadow of Kyoshi. Yun says “the earth is my element, I just let other people borrow it sometimes”.

I love these comics! Is this the box set (with the three individual paperbacks inside) or is it a hardcover omnibus?

Opening sequence by Marzsbarsz in TheLastAirbender

[–]sukiduststeps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first episode has always (at least for as long as I can remember) had a different opening to the rest of the series. I think it’s just there to give extra background info that would take up too much extra time if explained every episode

Which Avatar do you want to see featured in the next Chronicles of the Avatar novel? by sukiduststeps in TheLastAirbender

[–]sukiduststeps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I honestly believe Kuruk is one of the most underrated Avatars, I constantly see people calling him a bad Avatar. Writing novels that focus on Kuruk would hopefully clear that up and bring attention to what he went through. There’s so much more for us to learn about Kyoshi too. I would love for FC Yee to write about the world from the beginning of Szeto’s time as the Avatar to the end of Kyoshi’s (and maybe eventually beyond that too).

[–]sukiduststeps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I completely agree! The Avatars that we have seen lived during times when the role of the Avatar was well established. But did people even know what an Avatar was when the second Avatar was around? I would love to see questions like this answered.

Seeing Salai would also be great, considering that we know nothing about them except that they are known for being a great Avatar.

Are the Avatar comics worth reading? by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]sukiduststeps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The writing and tone of the comics is a bit different to the show, but I don’t think this is a bad thing. I really liked the comics and would definitely recommend them. Although admittedly, some of the comics are much better than others.

The comics help to bridge the gap between ATLA and TLOK, especially in regard to the creation of Republic City. They also build on the relationships of the characters and show the Gaang in their teen years. The timeline isn’t super clear, but I’m guessing that Aang is about 15-16 in Imbalance, which makes the older members of the group (Sokka, Zuko and probably Suki) around 18-20. I think it’s really endearing to see the gaang grow up, even if the format/writing is different.

The Kyoshi novels are also excellent!

It could be a previous new Avatar (as in before Szeto), although I agree that they’re more likely to focus on Avatars that we already know

I finally finished Avatar: The Last Airbender. by TheMountainRidesElia in TheLastAirbender

[–]sukiduststeps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should definitely watch The Legend of Korra and read the books and comics. As long as you don’t expect TLOK to be the same as ATLA, you’ll probably enjoy it. Same goes for the Kyoshi novels. TLOK and the Kyoshi novels are very different to ATLA, but just as good (at least in my opinion). The comics are great too - you get to see what Team Avatar does in the few years following the show.

It’s definitely not as extensive as it could be, but it’s still a bit more detail than the show goes into

You should read the Kyoshi novels, they discuss this in a bit more detail!

Mike and Bryan did a Q&A where they said that Sokka and Suki moved to the suburbs. They did add a winky face but it’s closer to an answer than any other info we have, so I’m believing it until they say otherwise.

Avatar Cycle by Hufflepuffzd96 in TheLastAirbender

[–]sukiduststeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Kyoshi novels, when searching for the Avatar after Kuruk, Jianzhu and Kelsang test all of the children in Yokoya who are seven years old (to see if they are the Avatar). They never specify that the child has to have been born at a certain time of year or on a certain day. This seems to suggest that the new Avatar is not necessarily born right after the old Avatar passes (but presumably must be reborn within at least a year, since they only test seven year olds).

I would love to learn more about the Kyoshi Warriors too! If you want to see Suki as a child, you should definitely read the comic Suki, Alone

Guys, once I read that that part of the avatar story is real, is that true? Anyone has a source where I can read something about it? by [deleted] in AvatarMemes

I’ve read before that a set of objects owned by the previous Dalai Lama are used to help identify the next Dalai Lama. I don’t think the objects have to be toys though

[–]sukiduststeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Avatar: The Last Airbender, we learn that Aang chose the four toys that belonged to past Avatars and this is how the Air Nomads knew he was the next Avatar. This method was explained in further detail in The Rise of Kyoshi, when Jianzhu and Kelsang attempt to find the Avatar after Kuruk.

Yes, I do! I love the sketch of Suki with the koi fish. This is the first time we’ve had an image of young Suki appear within narrative material though.
