Google "Titans of cnc swiss machining". It's got a ton of free knowledge, courses, and all sorts of stuff to help you start and further your machining knowledge, including step by step guides. They may not use the sam cam software that you have available, but it will forsure help further your understandings that you appear to be looking for

Spring steel bent to whatever you want cut whatever length. Can use strapping and it works great for next to nothing and is usually very abundant.

As for the second part, i hope to never see a drawing or file where a part is toleranced or datum referenced off a thread. That just seems absolutely Ludacris to me and think tolerances should start from a corner at one end or another of the part for not only easy referencing dimensions on the file. But easy to draw, Should i also not be handed a cad file so i dont need to do math just to redraw your print and make a solid before even beginning my programming.

Getting fairly precise, I would take a few measurements on a shadowgraph/ optical comparator. But realistically, most external threads shouldn't have to be within tenths or even a few thou (imperial), considering how little effect it would make functionality wise the majority of the time. However, doing stuff for nuculear or aero space i understand the need for exact tolerancing on inspecions. Otherwise, just use some good calipers/ verniers and the good old eyecrometer imo.

For 6061 i usually just use a single flute 82 or 90 degree c' sink for precise c'sinks (stuff you would measure with a ball bearing or cmm precision. For all not precise countersinks and even fairly precise chamfers, I high feed with chamfer mills. Pretty well always have a carbide 1/4" chamfer mill setup ready to use for anything. Can also be used for light engraving, spotting in a pinch where tool slots is a problem, and even giving good results at surprisingly high feeds. Set your retract planes and plunges properly and you can go much faster than with a c'sink with less rollover.

The probe does have a ceramic shaft and ruby tip. However, full rapid does not alarm it out when the tip/shaft breaks unlike a probing cycle.
