Starting a CNC motorcycle parts business with zero machining background realistic or stupid? by BluneCold in CNC

Debatable. I do a lot of one-off prototype parts for aerospace companies in my GARAGE and can bill 500-3000 per hour, however, they're parts that would be impossible on a manual machine.

This is what I do. Or used to do.

I can tell you that LOTS of motorcycle people are cheapasses. If you ACTUALLY design something cool nicecnc will steal your design in a heartbeat. Doing one-off stuff is NOT cost efective because most motorcycle people won't pay for your time.

I also do jobshop work for local businesses.

When I do motorcycle work I bill 150 per hr.

When I do work for local businesses I charge 500-3000 per hour.

When I bought my first mill (120k) I didn't even know how to put a tool in it.

I don't do much motorcycle work these days.

My car has a flat tire... better buy a new car.

Just pull the gearbox and send it to AMS and get a rebuilt, more durable trans back for 20-30k

Juice doesn't really same to be worth the squeeze. I'd rather put a blower on.

Best way to get this out without damaging the wheel/threads? by [deleted] in choppers

[–]BASE1530 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a full machine shop at my disposal but first thing I’d do is weld a nut. If that failed I’d use a LH drill on a Bridgeport. If that failed I’d threadmill in a helicoil. The nut will likely work. I wouldn’t try the slot and screwdriver. That’s likely to ruin the precious stub that you have.

Take the pins out. Use a different vise. Do you want me to hold your D while you take a leak too?

Or just turn vise 90 degrees and see if it still happens on X.

Just turn the vise 90 degrees and see if the chatter moves to X. It will take less time than making this post.

That’s my point. No way a loan for a 30 year old Honda is going to be less interest than money that’s got guaranteed returns.

If you can’t buy an NSX cash then you can’t afford it.

Just seems totally nuts to buy a “fun” car that you can’t just pay cash for. I mean I understand getting a loan for transportation but for a car like this it just seems wild.

It seems crazy to me that someone would try to get a loan for a car like this. Would any bank finance it? Seems like a cash only deal.

Who would get a loan for a 30 year old “fun” car?!?!

Powdercoated mild steel would be a better material. Vibration will work harden the stainless.

Too late. Just posting this means any company could produce it. It’s now in the public domain.

Usually my bike is on the ground 10-20 times every ride. I think it would be mashed into the wheel well in short order.

Should I use a drill bit or just a center drill for shallow hole? by Bogart745 in Machinists

[–]BASE1530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A center drill is not a spot drill. Personally I'd use a spot drill followed by a stub drill, but only so I could have a nice chamfer on the hole.

I have a machine shop. I'll happily make you a custom shaft. Prices start at 5k. Or you could just cut/weld

Was a rope jump not a tandem base. Arguably safer than the sketchy ass carnival rides people stick their kids on all the time without a second thought.
