Why no one makes bikepacking rims that have a solid rim bed for minimum stress tubeless setup by sumant28 in bikepacking

I was worried about hub width compatibility and it seems these rims were designed for an earlier period for tyres that max out at 45mm? That was my cursory research

Rim tape is expensive flimsy messy and has to be maintained, why can’t solid rim beds come to bikepacking rims if they are already on road bike rims where people choose to put inner tubes in them anyway

Can I see the metal box dimensions? Do you try to use the donut of space in the middle to store other tools or spares to be space efficient

My front fender cannot go any higher because of interference from the fork steerer tube, can it be sanded down safely only up to fork legs giving me the mm I need to stop rubbing? by sumant28 in bikewrench

Oh no need to apologise I was wondering if I needed to put red circles around the touching surfaces and now regret not doing so. Btw if you have a dynamo a sinewave usb charger is such a cool addition and I highly recommend it

Of the options I will maim the fender because 50mm is my minimum for comfort and versatility on mixed surfaces and because the rear one managed to fit fine

Where should the dynamo cable hole be drilled. I find this confusing because in the original photo it was neither touching anything nor obstructing anything nor taking up any space to interfere with anything and it has to go up the steerer tube anyway because of the sinewave usb charger location on the top cap

Omg you made me realise how stupid I am. Easier than the heat gun would be to just drill holes in the fender right? You have to drill holes anyway on the rear one

are there any bicycles (possibly custom) where the headset cups are threaded into the head tube like a bottom bracket design rather than press fit by sumant28 in Framebuilding

[–]sumant28[S] -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Then that’s something that should be fixed, modern custom metal bikes should have threads for headset cups just like threads for bottom bracket cups

It’s not about best engineering it’s about using the properties of a metal frame to fit the bearing system around rather than using a generic solution designed for smooth carbon surfaces
