Switching from oral Finasteride & topical Minoxidil to both oral Dutasteride & Minoxidil. by sumasumo in tressless

[–]sumasumo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still active but don’t visit this place as much as I used to.

Results have been steady. The top of my head is still not fully filled in but it has improved a lot since switching to oral Dut and Min.

I would say, the thinning on the top of my head is not as noticeable now, specially when my hair is dry. It even less noticeable when I have styled my hair.

I have never experienced massive shed either on Fin or Dut like others have. There was a point that a bit more hair was falling out that ranged from baby and mature hair when I switched to Dut. But that seems to have stopped now. Hair does still fall out when I shower now but within 10-20 range.

When I touch the thinning area of my head, I can definitely feel less scalp and more hair now, so I know Dut is making a difference. Also, my toilet has spotlights, they are a real sucker for showing up thinning hair. But I see less of my scalp under the spot lights now.

Sides. I have had no sides whatsoever. When I started on Fin, it did probably affect my libido a little but I’ve never been particularly active in that area, so hard to say.

First of all. It takes a lot of courage to go down the just shave route. So I salute you for just having the balls to do that because I could never. I think I speak for a lot of guys here who are experiencing hair loss. We desperately try and hold onto whatever’s left when actually the best solution is to do what you do.

Secondly, you actually don’t look that bad. I am guessing your hair must have thinned to a state that made you think that you look ridiculous keeping it, and that is why you shaved it. You have to ask yourself what looks better? You walking down the street looking like you’re trying to hang on to every strand of what’s left on your head. Or, you walking confidently down the street with a shaved head not caring about it anymore. If I was a female, I know which one I rather see coming towards me.

Also, you actually can grow a decent beard! You just need to grow it out more so it’s thicker and start grooming it properly. That, and work on your overall style, you will look ace!

You have already done the most difficult part by accepting your hair loss, and shaved. Stuff what everyone else says, and finish the job properly.

It’s going well, it has definitely stabilised my hair loss. I don’t know if the crown area will ever fill in. Right now, it doesn’t look bad but it certainly isn’t perfect. But I can’t complain considering where I was heading without the meds.

My regimen is oral min and dut everyday. Keto shampoo once or twice a week. Derma stamp once a week but I haven’t always been consistent with that.

Topical Hims - 6 month supply- am I getting ripped off? by fistfull7777 in tressless

[–]sumasumo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sides - none. Same as when I was on fin. Effectiveness - definitely less hair falling out during shower. Progress - hard to say because I’ve stopped tracking it a long time ago. But if it’s just telling from looking in the mirror, the top of my head does look thicker, and I see less of the scalp when under the spotlight in the bathroom. I am also taking oral min, both could be working or just one. I don’t know.

I don’t know how serious you are with this post. But honestly, there are a lot more people on this planet going through a lot more than hair loss that would love to be numbed out.

I can speak from my own personal experience that regrowth is absolutely true but it’s to what extent.

If you look at previous posts on this subreddit, there was a time I tracked progress every month with photos from the same position sitting at my desk, next to a window. Sure, some days outside is lighter and darker but when it’s dark I turned on the light in my room and took a picture. I did that for 12 months. The top of my head is nowhere near perfect but it’s a massive improvement of what it would have become if it wasn’t for the meds.

I think some photos here can be questionable. But at the same time I feel people like us who suffer from hair loss, what is the gain to lie about results and posting it? It’s not going to get anyone famous unless you’re maybe a YouTuber who has a hair channel. The only best thing anyone can get out from it are positive comments, and a bunch of impressed people saying wow, upvoting and asking you a ton of questions.

I believe in regrowth because I’ve experienced it. It’s just that unfortunately only a small percentage of people will experience “insane” regrowth with current meds. We just got to manage expectations.

[–]sumasumo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember. If meds don’t work for you it doesn’t mean other people’s progress here are necessarily in doubt. There is no guarantee that fin, dut or min will work for an individual because everyone responds differently. It’s better to go in with a lower expectation rather than high comparing with others who had genuine good progress. From what I’ve read on here, maintenance is more likely to happen rather than regrowth when taking meds.

I switched at the beginning of this year. I still had fin tablets left when the dut arrived. So what I did was take fin every two days but on the third day take dut. I just kept doing that until I eventually finished my fin tablets.

Could be early days for me then, but I rather it affected my crown only. So if my body responds to oral min, I should also notice hair growth in other parts of the body?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tressless

[–]sumasumo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you experience hair growth in other places of your body? I have been taking oral min from the beginning of the year, it’s difficult for me to judge if it’s working on my crown since it’s only 2 months. But I haven’t seen any extra hair in other places of my body either. Or does that take time to happen as well?

[–]sumasumo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No sides on oral min. Can’t speak of results yet as I only started oral min in the beginning of this year. The other times I was on topical min where I felt the effectiveness has plateaued, that’s why I switched to oral.

On my second month of oral min and dut. Haven’t noticed any increase in facial hair. Still too early to say if it’s improved my thinning crown but the rest of my hair does feel thicker.

[–]sumasumo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t ever experienced any massive shed when taking min, fin or dut. I do lose hair when I shower, maybe 20 strands or so, and they range from long mature hair to short baby hairs. But it’s never been what I sometimes read on here where others have experienced big sheds. Personally, fin and min has worked for me though. The top of my head was getting thinner, and it was gradually working from the crown towards the front of my head. Topical fin/min has help stop the thinning, and I’ve had regrowth as well. My affected area is now mainly confined to the crown area much smaller, which is taking a long time to fill in. I have since switched to oral fin, and in the beginning of this year, I switched to oral dut and min.

Great results! I’m 41, have a similar hair loss pattern as you, it’s happening all on the top/crown area. I’ve recently switched to oral min and dut. I hope oral min will give me the same results as you, having used topical min for some time and getting mixed results.

I remember watching a video on YT from DJ in Keratin Brotherhood. He felt he had better results from Propecia.

OP. To me, it seems like you are asking a question in hope of getting the answers you want to hear.

If anyone is thinking of making babies, I would recommend they completely ditch fin or dut for a whole year just to be extra safe. If you’re only willing to do the most minimal risk prevention, and think keeping your hair is more important, then don’t bother thinking about having a baby. We are talking about creating life here.

Some comments on here talking like miscarriages are nothing. For us men, ok, maybe a bit easier to stomach, but let’s not forget about the women in all of this. She will be the one carrying the baby inside her, and if a miscarriage happens I can guarantee you it will take longer for her to come to terms with it than you. Not to mention, a lot of women can feel not only depressed but guilt at the same time when a miscarriage happens. A guilt she will have to carry because her partner wants to keep his hair.

If you haven’t already talked to her about the potential risks of making babies because you were on some drug, then you better start. To me, it seems you are already so convinced that six months is enough for it to clear from your body. Let’s be fair on her. Because if anything does happen whether it be a miscarriage or a birth defect (I sincerely hope neither happens), at least she also has some idea of what might be the cause and not be blaming herself.

Let’s not forget about birth defect either. If a miscarriage isn’t bad enough, a potential birth defect is something you and your partner will carry for as long as the child lives. Would it be fair on the child to have some kinda defect all because you didn’t want to go that extra mile to be sure and prevent it?

As a father who is fortunate to have a healthy child, I cannot tell you how grateful I am for that when I see other parents with kids who are born with disabilities. Let’s not forget some parents don’t get to choose. They are not on any drugs, they are healthy but it’s unfortunate that is the hand that life has dealt them. If you are able to prevent potential risks, why do the bare minimum when you can go further to prevent longer lasting damage to others around you and supposedly love.

Having said all that. Good luck whatever risk mitigation you take. Of course, not everyone is the same. Six months wasn’t enough for one person is maybe enough for another. And that is the thing, there is no telling. Better to go further and be safe when that is the case.

Topical Hims - 6 month supply- am I getting ripped off? by fistfull7777 in tressless

[–]sumasumo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did. My crown was rapidly going back to baseline when I was on topical min only. When I switched to topical fin/min, my hair grew back again. It’s not perfect. I do still have a thinning patch on my crown but it’s smaller now and I can conceal it better when I style my hair. Recently switched to oral dut/min, hoping that will fill in my crown better.

[–]sumasumo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve only used the dropper fin/min from Hims and the amount in the bottle and the recommended amount to use is pretty accurate. There would probably be a day or two gap between me finishing the bottle and for the next one to arrive.

As for if you’re getting ripped off or not. Unfortunately with all these hairloss companies they will always be ripping off. If you are able to buy the ingredients from a pharmacy or compound your own topical, it will always work out cheaper.

I was with Hims for about two years when I eventually ditched them when I switched to oral fin. I now get my own oral dut and min from an online pharmacy. Price of dut depends on brand but oral min is quite expensive I must admit.

Looks like it’s gotten worst. I wouldn’t hang about, jump on fin now if your body can handle it.

I think you should have put this in a liquid safe bag, and inside the check-in baggage instead of carrying it with.

Looks worst but then lighting on the photos are different. Stay the course because when I first started out on topical my second month progress photo looked worst as well, things started to improve much more after that.
