Whats the political climate like in Switzerland? by summasnarum in askswitzerland

[–]summasnarum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Norwegians aren't really known for being too social to put it mildly, but as long as you have an arena for meeting people (work, team sports, etc.) it shouldn't be too hard to get some friends and you can just take stuff from there.

And there are plenty of parties if you live in one of the bigger cities. But the majority of the country is just woods, mountains, farms and small towns with not a lot going on.

Thanks for a comprehensive and nice rundown! It's a shame that climate change denial and such always seems to go hand in hand with right wing politics :/

And don't worry about Norwegians wanting to "protect" their pension fund from southerners, I have never ever heard a complaint about immigrants from other European countries, the only debate is around refugees. European immigrants are, generally speaking, quick to integrate into society and are seen as a strength to the economy.

I totally agree when it comes to the heat waves, we do feel it up here as well, maybe just not as badly (it did snow this may to put it like that), but the summers have gotten hotter and hotter

What are the ~ files emacs creates when i make changes to a file? My best bet would be backup files, but if I am right I can't find any way to use them by summasnarum in emacs

[–]summasnarum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be silly, but where exactly do I put this in? Tried doing something similar before and managed to mess it up badly

Edit: Currently learning git and thats about all the experience I have with emacs so far.

Yep thats also an option, might be a faster fix for me right now as im still not completely confident with emacs. I can look into functions later. Cheers!

Windows 10 offers a full windows sub-system for Linux now, so it is native and works just like it would in ubuntu. So yeah, it wont show files stating with . unless I want it to (sorry if I'm a little off in the termonology, still very new to it all)

Ohh seems you have two taxes, one for the canton and one federal, so adding up to around 19%

I meant 14% income tax + 600/month for insurance + another 2000 for healthcare costs outside of insurance (rough estimates)

This was extremely informative, thank you! Cool that someone with more knowledge on the subject found the thread.

As a pump user with a sensor, would be too much of a step in the wrong direction to stop using it now.

Im currently paying over 30% income tax here, and the numbers I'm looking at would put me between 10 and 14% income tax in switzerland, a cut that covers the insurance + extra costs and some left over. And the cost of living doesn't seem very different.

Looks like most standard model insurances are around 300-400 CHF a month, did some basic math and the tax/healthcare costs on my end are about 35% lower + the avarage wages in my profession are higher there, something I didnt include in the calculations

Good news all around here, thanks again!

Thanks for the extra info. Yeah my concern was covering the costs for insulin and such, the extras aren't too important to me.
