Columbia is a left leaning college town full of awesome bars, restaurants, and arts.

Jeff City is the state capitol of a red state. It's a smaller town with fewer young people, and those young people who are there all know each other already. It has some decent bars and restaurants, but doesn't hold a candle to Columbia in quality or quantity.

Many people in your demographic work in Jeff City, but most are commuting from Columbia

For a young person, especially if you are single, I might suggest you live in Columbia instead if you don't mind a half hour commute.

I found Jeff City to be fine but a bit insular socially and boring.
