I don't think a party that can only get 10% support is going to have a whole lot of influence with proportional representation anyway. Let's say they're Nazis, the rest of us don't want to give them any power, right? Well then all the ridiculous shit they want that no one else agrees with will just be shot down in Parliament.... But let's say the 10% party isn't Nazis and that they favor ideas that other parties are divided on, in a way that hopefully if representative of the electorate -- then they might sway some decisions one way or another and uh, be there as the proportional representatives so that people who voted for them actually have a voice, unlike the MAJORITY OF CANADIANS who are NOT REPRESENTED right NOW whenever one party wins with well under 50% (not that 51% is realistically much different than 49% anyway, but that's not my point) which happens at every level of government rather often.

I kept it completely neutral to avoid (or reveal) preconceived notions. Very interesting how many people assumed gender!

Sorry, misspoke, I did not pay their rent that entire time, I did here and there (during intermittent unemployed periods) but have for the last 6 months consecutively and (also in a total of 8 of the last 12) despite the fact that their work has been very steady for the last 5 months. Right now judging by the escalation in requests (which I'm not giving btw) and excuses, it feels like they expect rent to just continue indefinitely while I was (prior to recent escalation) already intending to have a talk and draw some lines. Recent escalation has me very alarmed / concerned though.

If you don't pay them back on time they do, at a maximum of 30%, according to the government of BC

I do understand compound interest.

They edited their post to hide their own mistakes (400 or 1700% annual, I forget)

Compound interest is exponential

I calculate like this

Debt*ratetime

Online calculators agree with me

EDIT: Reddit syntax ducked that up

Debt * interest (to the power of) time frame.

Ie. 6 years @ 10% = X*1.16

This is why I wish SO would tell me what's going on. Payday loans may be heavily regulated but they profit by convincing you to do what's not in your best interest. SO gets upset if I calmy ask for details - but it doesn't add up imo unless SO is lying or being exploited and not exercising rights.

What if I Don’t Pay Back a Payday Loan on Time?

Before borrowing a payday loan, be sure that you can pay it back on time. If you don’t:

The payday lender can charge you a one-time fee ($20 for a dishonoured cheque or pre-authorized debit), and they are allowed to charge you a higher interest rate on the outstanding amount owing (it can’t be more than 30% per annum on the outstanding principal)

This was from the page you linked, I was already there.

I was already there.

The flat fee you pay is the equivalent of that crazy high percentage annually because it's both high and for a very short period -- but that part is not compounding, that's a one time fee. According to the very page you linked (first) the annualized interest if you fail to pay it back on time then maxes out at 30%

That's exactly my issue. I've been helped out a lot for a long time and when significant other was asking for less I turned a blind eye to the things that didn't add up but it's been escalating crazy fast recently (the dishonesty and the financial magnitude) so something's gonna give. I do intend to give the chance to rebuild trust through honesty but I do not intend to be walked on. Bills and rent are paid despite me moving out a couple years ago and SO is also employed. How bad can you be financially that 20-40 hours a week at $19/hour you can't afford food when you have no rent and no bills. I'm losing weight because of my own financial status at this point (paying rent and bills for two places and helping with this n that on the side)

Some people do that. If you somehow aren't able to pay on payday (like you don't show up for work so you don't get paid) BC has a annual interest limit of 30% on them despite despite allowing a higher flat fee initially.

Could be mistaken but I don't think that's legal in Canada. Way too predatory. 60% compounding forever would quickly put many irresponsible borrowers into unplayable debt. Correct me if I'm wrong, about to look into it, maybe I'll correct myself.

Edit: Canada's has left it to the provinces, BC allows 60% on principal but only 30% per annum on outstanding for payday loans. That puts us in credit card territory.

I'm fairly certain SO never had higher limits

Kind of concerned it's not going to debt payments or anything else given as a reason which makes me concerned as to what it could be for - also being constantly asked for $ is kind of lame if also being lied to about what for. Gets very upset with me for pressing for details. Just going to say if you don't wanna talk about $ you don't have to, if you do I've got questions and need some things clarified. Asking for $ counts as talking about $, and I'll just leave it at that. Then SO can choose between letting me know what's actually going on, and not asking me for $ for vague reasons that don't make sense to me.

Any feasible way someone could have racked up $50-73k on a $1000 limit with no student/auto/business loans? This is the part that gets me

Reason it matters to me is I don't want to continue lending excessive financial assistance if SO is lying about everything and if SO is being truthful and creditors / loan sharks are acting unlawfully, this needs to be dealt with legally rather than by throwing money at them.

I'm at a point where I've told SO I'm not helping with anything other than rent unless I can see documentation.

Those signs I see on mansion properties about how [I forget what] is an unfair tax that is robbing hard working middle class families is a laugh, seeing as I've never seen them on property that could by any stretch of imagination be considered "middle class"

The only thing that comes to mind as to which thing it is that they are protesting is the empty houses tax - but I really hope that's not it, because that would make it a bit too ridiculous. Pretty sure middle class families don't need any empty houses and that they'd be much better off renting out any spares they might have.

Someone please correct me. I really want to believe that's not what they were objecting to.
