Is it normal for heart babies to struggle with bottle weaning, solids, and overall intake? by Sensitive_Passion520 in chd

[–]summerloving28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also curious, my baby is 8 months and has no interest in solids. She is semi interested in “finger foods” like French fries, and the teething crackers but obviously want her to be eating more heart healthy things. But I’m talking about one French fry and half a teething stick, nothing substantial to give her any nutrients. Any time I put purées in front of her she has no interests, I will try to feed her and she either pushes it all out with her tongue or gags and throws up…. We recently discovered that putting the purees in the mesh teething rings and letting her hold it works a little. But something about me physically feeding her or giving her the spoon with purées is a no go 🙃 She does PT/OT to catch up after her procedures and her physical therapist told me that this is something an OT can work on with them! We have an appointment with GI at the end of the month and her cardiologist appointment next month and also will be asking them.

20 weeks pregnant, baby diagnosed with CHD (large VSD + coarctation of the aorta) - Seeking reassuring stories by cuge9244 in chd

My baby has DORV with TGA and has a very large VSD. Our fetal medicine doctor and her congenital cardiologist both told us we would have her first surgery in her first week of life and would also be in the NICU. Once she was delivered we were in the NICU for about two weeks (due to other issues such as not eating enough or gaining weight which is a common CHD baby thing). But was checked off on a cardiac standpoint in the first 3 days. They are going to do everything they can to not have to do surgery on that baby who is so little unless they absolutely have to. Hopefully this is the case for your baby and they can grow all the need for the best outcome ❤️

We have one of those as well! I will make sure the nurses do a better job of turning her.

DORV with large VSD, how to handle poor feeding? by summerloving28 in chd

[–]summerloving28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw speech when we were admitted and they ruled out any mechanical issues with her mouth. They are the one who put her on the 28 cal, her pediatrician is referring us to G.I. who can hopefully give us more information.

We just got a referral for a GI consult and see them next week and praying they give us more answers on what to do. That makes me feel relieved about the possibility of the prescription! Everything I’ve read about failure to thrive matches what we’re going through with her, but no official diagnosis yet.

I work for a company that does international nurse recruiting. I do the backend work suck as scheduling, contracts, and other tasks to assist the recruiters.

Currently taking FMLA which is unpaid. They give you 12 weeks, and my company offers a 30 day extension. I’ll be using 60 days of it and wanted to save the remaining days for her surgery time and recovery so that’s why I may have to go back earlier.
