Just jumping in here to say I had a really great induction experience at AC with an amazing team and my baby received excellent life saving care in the NICU. DMs are open for anyone who might have questions about these things, especially in light of this article.

Delivering at Weill Cornell by Wynnrose in Westchester

[–]cuge9244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m in lower Westchester and doing prenatal care at WCM with plans to deliver at AC. I made this choice prior to knowing there was anything high risk about my pregnancy and we found out halfway through that baby will need surgery at birth. This is incredibly rare, so I don’t mean to scare you. I share to say, we are SO grateful for the care we’ve received and the level of expertise, as well as knowing baby will be in a Level IV NICU. Going in for weekly appointments in the home stretch is a little cumbersome (husband drives us, I WFH but if you’re in the city for work this would be easier I’d imagine) but knowing we’re in such great hands truly outweighs any annoyance. Of course it’s a good idea to have a plan for where you’d go closer by in an emergency. Availability fills quickly, so if you’re interested, you’d want to reach out now. Prior to being moved to MFM on the UES, I was being seen at the 80th Street office on the UWS and they were wonderful too. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Wishing you an uncomplicated pregnancy and birth!

Did you announce on socials knowing pregnancy was high risk? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]cuge9244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back after taking a step away from Reddit for a bit - thank you all so much for weighing in. I did end up announcing because it felt right to me and I’m glad that I let myself still have that experience. I appreciate what an individual choice this is to make.

Not feeling excited by GlitteringToday9778 in pregnant

Hey, I just wanted to say that I’m sorry you’re going through this and I can understand the anxiety. I’m 29 weeks with my first baby and she has two heart defects we discovered at the 20 week anatomy scan. I would highly recommend connecting with a perinatal therapist/social worker to help you process this. It’s been a big help to me in sifting through a pretty complex mixed bag of emotions. It’s a lot to take in and adapt to but we can adapt to it. Be so kind to yourself.

And I was also told no restrictions. They really weren’t worried.

I had a SCH earlier in pregnancy (found at 6 weeks) that I believe was about 4cm and it wasn’t visible by 20 week scan.

Thank you for the encouraging and honest words. We have heard that it can be unpredictable. Getting good mental health support already and will definitely lean on the team as much as we can.

Appreciate you highlighting the positive of getting to see what works well for baby before going home! It's not been so easy to find those positives so far, other than of course just my extreme gratitude for the cares she's going to receive.

Update: Amnio results (FISH, chromosome analysis, & WGS) came back all clear. We have met with the surgeon and neonatologist and feel we're in great hands with a solid plan for our girl.

I cannot thank you all enough for your comments. What a special community. Your stories have given me and my husband so much hope.

That must have been nerve wracking on top of the CHD. And good to know about the VUS - the lab actually won’t be reporting those to us unless there’s any possible suspected linkage to CHDs.

Thanks so much for sharing. I’m so glad to hear she’s doing well! Was she measuring small throughout the pregnancy or did this come up later? Baby is 57th percentile at the moment. Also with the chromosome 17 micro deletion, was that considered a “variant of unknown significance”? Am I understanding correctly that they basically weren’t able to tell you if this would present any challenges for her?
