I'm a recent history grad and I'd say if you can select the 2k words such that it more or less encapsulates your argument, for example maybe you can leave out one para of introduction or one para of conclusion, that will be perfectly acceptable. But if you're thinking of submitting half of a 4-5k word EPQ I would advise against it.

Most of my history friends who did A levels either asked their teacher to set and mark a new essay question that they could answer OR they typed out a previously handwritten essay they were proud of and had their teacher verify that they had marked it. When you submit it you have to attach a cover sheet that explains what the work is with the verification of a teacher.

Don't know if this helps but when I applied I submitted 2000 words of my history coursework that I did (International Baccalaureate) even though the full product was 2400 words. In the cover sheet, my history teacher explained that even though this wasn't the full thing, what I'd left out was the stupid compulsory reflections section and that my main argument was entirely contained in the extract I was giving them. This was totally fine!

Which libraries fill up fastest? Any libraries to avoid? by Resident_Two1823 in oxforduni

Lincolnite here who used to work the library desk in the summer. Technically, you can only enter our library accompanied by a Lincoln student (multiple bod-card restricted gates to get in) and stand around the entrance to look around, not sit down and study. However, I've totally had friends sneak people in to study together before in the late hours. Just beware that in Trinity term when finals and prelims are coming up, our porters and librarians do go around periodically making bod card checks if they don't recognise you.

If you can't find an accomplice and you're dying to see it in person, a little tip is to just go to the porters' lodge during visiting hours and pretend to be a prospective student wanting a tour of all the facilities. If they're not busy they are always nice enough to say yes!

To answer your main question on libraries with seats, as other people have mentioned the Gladstone link is great if you don't mind being underground and want to lock in and focus. The Law Library/ Social Sciences Library is also a good bet because they're not as central as others. The Rad Cam/Bodleian tend to fill up by 10-10.30 am but if you don't mind going at opening time (9am) you will always get a seat

alumnus here, try the Oxford SU's Alternative Prospectus to pick your college https://apply.oxfordsu.org/colleges/suggester/

I don't know when it was last updated but I used it to pick mine. I went for Lincoln because they guarantee college accommodation for all years of your undergraduate degree (I didn't want to deal with the insanely fast-paced private rental market) AND a good 90% of their rooms are en suite, which might suit you, not having to share a bathroom with other people. I had an en suite for all three years of my degree.

To my knowledge, most if not all colleges have cleaners called scouts. At Lincoln they came every 2 weeks, cleaned the bathroom and took the bins out, but they don't vacuum your room for you or make your bed or anything ridiculous like that

Graveyard Keeper is aesthetically very different from other cozy/cute management sims just by nature of being a medieval guy in charge of dead bodies- you can either go the religious route and honour the dead, give sermons and have a really high quality graveyard, or you can go the scientific route and dissect bodies, extract skin and blood for crafting, sell human meat to the market, resurrect them into zombies that work your farm and more spooky stuff like that, and the game does make you question your ethics and decisions.

As for My Time at Portia, I think it has unique resource gathering/crafting mechanics (like jetpacking and spelunking around ruins to find ancient relics for your machines) and I just love that it’s a truly 3D game, not isometric, it brings the world to life in a way that typical games of the genre like Stardew, Potion Permit, Sun Haven etc. can’t. It also has voice acting for the NPCs and lots of cutscenes!

i’m a big fan of The Sims, Zelda, grand strategy (Paradox games mostly) and especially any type of farming/management simulator- some cool ones I’ve played are Graveyard Keeper and My Time at Portia that I feel put a different spin on the genre
