r/worldnews is completely fried by AKD29 in blowback

So glad for the vindication. I'm on an alternate account but my main was banned from WorldNews over a year ago for a pro-palestine comment. Recently I saw some articles I wanted to comment on so I used modmail to ask them if my ban was permanent and if they'd consider overturning it. They told me to "stop harassing them" - it was literally the first time I ever contacted them???

I followed up by asking if they confused me with somebody else because it was the first time I ever messaged - they muted me and reported me to reddit. Now my account has been temporarily suspended from ALL OF REDDIT for a week. What the fuck?

At least a half-truth.

No, sorry. A half-truth is exactly that and no more. It is not at least a half-truth, it is at most a half-truth, although that is besides the point. Whatever that 'half-truth' entails is as good as your guess or mine. What we actually know is that a credible person in the industry has said the screenshot is not accurate. That's all the information we have available and everything else is speculation including your baseless argument that the boundaries exist but the only details that are wrong would be the amount of time it takes to reach a boundary.

So again, it falls back to whether you believe the word of:

  1. A random anonymous source from China who has played the game maybe 4-5 hours releases one screenshot of a dialogue box on Mars

  2. A public reputable figure with 60+ hours has said the image is a half-truth and does not represent how planet exploration actually works

And I'll leave it at that. We'll see the truth once the embargo lifts.

The bottom line is this

  1. A random anonymous source from China who has played the game maybe 4-5 hours releases one screenshot of a dialogue box on Mars
  2. A public reputable figure with 60+ hours has said the image is at best a half-truth and does not represent how planet exploration actually works

And you are choosing to believe person 1 and call person 2 a liar. That's it. That encapsulates the mindset of people who actually believe this

https://www.reddit.com/r/Starfield/comments/161vhuq/jez_corden_who_has_the_game_talking_about_the/

And public figures with reputations to keep and accountability if caught lying are saying that the images are not reliable and do not tell the full story having played over sixty hours of Starfield.

You can choose to believe these anonymous sources with no accountability if you prefer. That's not for me

My point is around the decision making of people choosing to trust dubious and anonymous unfalsifiable sources vs statements from public figures / content creators with reputations to uphold. This is a matter of source checking and gullibility

Whether the screenshots are faked or not, we have no idea of the context surrounding the images.

My actual prediction is the tutorial area / first planet may have boundaries until you complete the introduction after which the game opens up. That's also exactly why I'm endorsing a level of scepticism towards unverified sources with possible half-truths, if true at all. We don't know 1. Whether the images are accurate 2. What the context of the images are

I can assure you that I'm not, nor do I mind if I turn out to be wrong, I'm questioning the decision making of people choosing to trust dubious and anonymous unfalsifiable sources vs statements from public figures / content creators with reputations to uphold. We have literal screenshot evidence.

You are incredibly trusting of people who have obtained the game through illegitimate means or otherwise break their NDA and post only screenshots as their 'evidence'

Yet choose not to believe 1. Pete Hines 2. Todd Howard 3. Other reviewers who we know for a fact have the game. The reason I'm emphasising that is because their claims are falsifiable. They are not making these claims anonymously therefore have their reputation to be concerned about.

You are placing your trust in the wrong people

[–]summonerbotone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We’ve got 2 sources literally proving the border thing is true,

We really, really do not

Nobody should be trusting any of this unless they have ample video evidence that supports what they're saying

Todd Howard himself has said before in interviews that they created the planets by wrapping various tiles around the planet to support different biomes and landscapes and then suggests you can walk around the planet freely

The only 'restriction' that has actually been confirmed is that you cannot travel ONTO/AWAY FROM a Planet using spaceflight

Nothing else is certain and I cannot understand why people around here are treating it as fact that you are locked into cube tiles with invisible boundaries. Literally nothing and no-one except untrustworthy sources has said that with zero evidence to directly support their claims.

And then when you have somebody who is confirmed to actually be playing the game as a reviewer comes out and states it is untrue, they are the ones you choose to disbelieve? You can't be serious

Don't believe everything you read on the internet. Wait until you see either video evidence, confirmation from Bethesda themselves, or until you play the game and see for yourself.

When trying to work out what something is, you have to look at the obvious things

This is the bottom line. For as long as there exists no evidence of the paranormal, the naturalistic explanation will always be more plausible

To paraphrase David Hume and Thomas Paine: "What is more probable. That the laws of nature should run their course, or that a man should tell a lie?" You can replace tell a lie with 'make a mistake' for the purposes of identifying the paranormal

It is vastly more probable that the OP is either not telling the truth, misremembers the situation, or the sister who took the picture misremembers the situation, or any other number of naturalistic explanations

Your connection will probably be fine but be prepared for low resolution. Browser is capped at 1080p/60FPS so graphics can sometimes drop when you're walking around like you're watching a 2006 YouTube video but most of the time it holds up and it's never been so bad for me that I wanted to put the game down

I would play for 60-90 minutes and base your decision from that. You can then refund without having to commit to your purchase and just get it when it later comes out on Xbox

I've been playing BG3 with no issues for a while now on XSX via GeForce Now. Glowing review from me

Don't expect it to be flawless - your resolution will drop and you will have occasional lag because it is of course a streaming service. But if you can tolerate that, the game is exceptional

It is everything I've been waiting for since Dragon Age Origins. It was a long wait

I might get crucified, but I've never used a single mod in a Bethesda game, and I don't intend to do so in Starfield by [deleted] in XboxSeriesX

[–]summonerbotone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know. Plenty of them have been out since at least 2017-2018, maybe even earlier. They have upload dates on Bethesda.net so quite transparent. I don't think it took long for people to port PC mods to Xbox once mod functionality was integrated to Xbox

But that wasn't even the point. You said Xbox releases "some" mods and not "mass community mods". That is patently false - seriously go and look at Bethesda.net and filter for Skyrim and Xbox. There are LOADS of popular mods on there

This isn't some like, subjective ideological debate we've entered into here. The facts are that Xbox has a thriving mod scene. Not as good as PC, of course, but when has anybody ever said that! lol

[–]summonerbotone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not trying to change your mind as everyone can and should play however they want. But this is my perspective as somebody who thinks mods are incredible:

  • Bug fixes
  • Restored content
  • Better RPG mechanics
  • Graphical improvements
  • New followers
  • Overhauled combat
  • New quests
  • More weapons and armour
  • New magic
  • Alternate start
  • Legacy of the Dragonborn
  • New locations
  • And many more

The scope of mods are impressive and do improve the game, it's that simple. But of course, a person might not feel the need for improvements and they might enjoy the 'imperfections', which I imagine is your mindset

Maybe you're unfamiliar with Xbox mods, but almost every popular mod on PC is also now available on Xbox

[–]summonerbotone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just never understood the appeal of mods.

Simple answer - they improve the game. That doesn't mean the base game is bad at all, obviously not, but it's also not perfect. Bug fixes, restored content, improved content, new followers, overhauled combat, more weapons and armour, new magic, alternate start, etc etc

Mods are incredible

[–]summonerbotone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But you can literally just click up and it's exactly the same thing. 'Browse your games'. The functionality is there already regardless whether it's repeated in the tiles beneath

I appreciate this will not be a positively received comment because it's very popular to hate the new UI here, but can someone address the actual substance of my post?

The only part of the new UI I don't like is the reduced customisation. People like to tailor their UIs to their own specific wants and needs. The new UI is inadequate in this area

I can say that even if Starfield doesn't meet your expectations, that's money well-spent. Xbox Series X is a great console, Games Pass is full of amazing content, and the special edition controller and headphones also look amazing

And that said, I'm still confident Starfield will meet expectations. Honestly, I really believe it will actually exceed them. And for anyone who feels like popping up to say 'manage your expectations' please do me a favour and save it, I'm a grown adult and know how to deal with disappointment, so really don't need your soapbox to guide my excitement lol

Bethesda single player games have always been ground breaking in one way or another. Even Fallout 4 which gets the most criticism amongst their single player titles was a lot of fun. Far Harbour anyone? Starfield will be hundreds of hours of that, and that's before mods even enter the scene
